Today i tried the Sigma 50mm 1.4 EX HSM on my d7000...

everything looks great on the view finder... I dont know if its too soft or not but it couldnt focus on live view which was pretty dissapointing for a rm3k lens =.="

tomorrow ill try to call sigma malaysia and ask if this issue could be fix by doing the lens calibration

You sure it's a 3K lens?

Anyway, why do you need the Sigma? Do you require f/1.4?

You would be very happy with the Nikon 50mm f/1.8G for much less.
I'm not so worried about the green cast but more so on the weird background bokeh.

What filter are you using?
Test a CZ lens?  notworthy.gif I thought Shriro was carrying them.

that was the retail price at rm2998 at the store opposite cannon in mid valley..

but ill be going hong kong this sunday so thats why im doing an extensive research on it...

in hong kong it only cost rm 1400..

Im still deciding... is the 1.4 and 1.8 difference alot?

or should i just get the nikon 50mm 1.4d since the d7000 has a built in motor

You can test mine, but its on a different mount tongue.gif

Hard 2 find Carl Zeiss for Nikon/Canon mount except if specially ordered.

I know one dude brought a D3x and bought a 35mm f1.4 Carl Zeiss MF lens from a shop before.
*
Hahaha thanks but i dont think i have the time because im leaving on sunday d... still thinking T_T

After calibration of lens and body is the nikon warranty void? that is what i am afraid off actually

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Jul 15 2011, 09:16 AM)
Yeah, should be about that price. Becareful about warranty since you would probably not get local support if you require calibration assistance.

But still the AF-S 50mm f/1.8G is half that price and you don't need to worry about anything.  rclxms.gif
What are the reasons that are making you still decide that are really making you consider f/1.4?  hmm.gif

From what I've read, the new 1.8G beats the 1.4D.
Zeiss or Nikon?
Sorry but it may be your style. I find the lens flare you put in PP a little annoying after a while. Two or three pics in a series is fine but putting it in almost all your pics is a little overdone.
*
Just potrait lens, and a friend of mine is using the 1.4D and adviced me to take the the 1.4 instead of 1.8 if I can afford..

because after buying a 50mm I dont think of buying any more 50mm in the future.. so i thought of buying something that could last me a long time, previously i was thinking of nikon's 50mm 1.4d/1.4g or the sigma's 50mm 1.4 hsm

since the 1.8G is cheaper and better than the 1.4d ill trust you on that wink.gif

and the reason why i was leaning towards the sigma is because its huge n bluky, i love it when i held it compareed to the nikon 1.4d which was small and it felt really weird for me

Ill be leaving to hong kong this sunday! cant wait! lol..

Btw on my manual of the SB-700 speed light it says that the SB-700 cannot be used with IX-Nikkor lenses.. (What does this actually mean)

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Jul 15 2011, 12:56 PM)
Go search around LYN or PhotoMalaysia, I don't think it's over RM2K for official Sigma Malaysia set.

What are the reason you want a 1.4? Do you really need the 1.4? Is the price difference worth to pay?

Check out the new 50mm f/1.8G, it's around RM650, way way WAY cheaper than the 1.4s around and performs very well (if not better), and it's sharp wide open. There're many amazing sample photos posted in PhotoMalaysia almost everyday.
No problem bro, good luck on your purchase and enjoy!
I think he mentioned before that he prefer to expose for the skin tones, and he doesn't really bother about others.
*
Thank you for the recommendation! haha Im starting to think about the 1.8 now.. Price difference im not really sure but if it really does give better pictures im alright with it ...

there are people in other forums also mentioning that d7000 has their own motor, so the G series of the newer lenses is not worth the price and told everyone to use the D instead

Thank you all for your kind time helping me out wink.gif ofcourse buying so much of equipments would not make me a better photographer..

oh btw i bought this book from times at pavilion its called magic lantern d7000 multimedia workshop.. not really useful thou since most of the information can be actually obtained on the internet wink.gif so don't get that hehe

Lol... you prefer buying retail price or over-quoted price than street price? Even Shashinki also listing the item tagged at RM2195 only which considered higher than street price biggrin.gif

I remember I asked Foto Selangor few months back and it was RM1.8K+/-

Given if I'm in your shoe, I'll pick the 50mm f/1.8G anytime over the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 smile.gif
*
I see, may I know why? In hong kong it's around rm 1200-1300++

Just that I saw it retailed in Msia at 3k was a shocker to me!

hahaha.....sifu is sifu....after i send, forgot to ask is the G more expensive because of the internal motor only and not in term of better pictures. ok, will look for bargain hunter in the WTS corner.

Thanks again.

see the review shared by hidden, the G is way better than the D version..

the 50mm lens would be a 75mm lens due to the fact its an fx lens and you're having a dx body!

dear sifus, between a high end prosumer like the Canon Powershot SX30 and a entry level DSLR like the 3100, which would you choose if you are a noob in photography?

I have no interest in taking pictures at events or of people but for me, it'd be purely for travel/scenic views. I am keen on refining my technique but not to an extent to purchase thousands of ringgits worth of lens for a camera. For me, if I were to get the 3100, I'd get the lens that comes with it. That's it....

With that said, opinions?

Which would you recommend for me?

Maybe this can help you wink.gif

Hmm... then why some of those Manfrotto's cost above RM1K? What makes the different and does it necessary to purchase those "class" of tripods?
*
Hehehe The ones above 1k are usually carbon fibre wink.gif

user posted image

This was taken at 200mm, f2.8, 1/30secs, ISO 180

user posted image

Trying potrait of my gf and sister

70mm, f2.8, 1/30secs, ISO250

It seems sharp even without VR, What do you guys think? Or should I just save up and get the Nikon version with VR II.

I totally forgotten to take photos at f8-11 at the lens sharpest point.. Im still new at this... What else do I need to look for?

Thanks guys!

35mm or 50mm
Which is one is niftier?

Don't forget that the 50mm1.8g is an fx lens so it's 75mm on a dx camera and 35mm I'd a dx lens

Like wise, 35mm on DX has a 50mm equivalent field of view. So what's your point?
*
The 35mm 1.8g is a dx lens

Probably... skills and techniques mature as more and more practices on shooting along the time. By the way, which of the 39 points in D7000 are cross sensors? huh.gif
No matter whether the lens is DX or FX.... putting the lens on a DX body will resultant in 1.5x of the lens focal length.

Therefore, 35mm DX lens on DX body will become 35mm x 1.5 = 52.5mm equivalent on FX.

Oh I see, thanks for letting me know wink.gif

ok I get it now.. So let's say we compare 50mm 1.4G(FX) on 2 bodies, DX and FX.. so on DX it will be 75mm and FX 50mm... but how about the view angle of the photos? Is it when you shoot with that lens of FX you can see more stuff(wider angle)?

This link will show a picture on DX cameras crop factor wink.gif

its easier to understand with a picture!
