Just a tip to disable some startup programs that allow you to boot up faster.

Go to start menu and type in "msconfig"

Enter the program and under startup tab. Disable unused programs that you do not what to startup.

Its also a good way to look out for viruses. They tend to be unknown in the list

You should probably say Exotic.

there wont be any side effects at all.

You just wont be able to use the DVD Drive.

Unless you purchase a casing and put it as a external DVD Drive

battery life? hmm.. would the optical drive consume the same power as well?

hmm.. I thought they do still consume power even on idle.. haha..

cos Najmods last time mod K40AB removing optical drive and battery life got significant increase eh. haha

hmm.. On average is around 2 hours battery life and I think after his mods and stuffs, he got to around 2hr 30 min?

well not all from the optical drive I guess.

Im thinking Optical drive would somehow still consume some power even at idle for its detected by the laptop meaning its power on. Power on means its drawing power?

But comparing to HDD. Its definitely gonna be more due to file transfer and etc.
