Franck Muller Asia chairman Kevin Chau said the idea of a super car tour was to create fun and excitement for the Franck Muller customers in the spirit of celebrating motor sports racing.

“This is the second time the Franck Muller Super Car Tour is held but it is the first time we are doing it in Penang,” said Chau.

He also said the reason Penang was chosen as the flag-off point was to present the opportunity for tour participants to visit the scenic spots on the island.

Featuring a convoy of 24 exotic cars from Malaysia, Singapore and China, the entourage was flagged off at the hotel at 8am yesterday for a six-hour 800km trip from the island all the way up to Phuket, Thailand.

They will then return to Penang on Sunday.

The line-up of sleek, sporty and elegant car included Lamborghinis, Mercedes-Benzes, Ferraris, Porsches, Audis, Bentleys and an eye-catching rare Pagani Zonda F which is estimated to be worth more than RM6mil.

One of the tour’s participants, Jes Wong from Singapore, said he enjoyed going on tours in convoys and he frequently went on such trips with other motoring clubs.

“This is my first time driving from Penang to Phuket,” said the 52-year-old sports car enthusiast who drives a black Porsche 911 Turbo.

Ferrari Owner’s Club Malaysia (FOCM) president Datuk Azizi Yom Ahmad said that by joining such tours, luxury car owners would be able to meet and chat with each other.

“We can also share ideas and opinions about the cars we drive,” said Azizi, who drives a red Ferrari 430 Scuderia.

The participants were flagged off by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng. Also present were state Youth and Sports, Women, Family and Community Development chairman Lydia Ong Kok Fooi and Penang Sports Council director Frederick Tan.
