QUOTE(kevraul @ Jul 25 2011, 02:33 AM) Is it just me and my phone? But my friend's defy (keanaik) on official froyo is much smoother than my cm7 rc1. Its obvious when browsing the app drawer. Do you guys notice this? no way froyo will be smoother, unless you got some wrong settings or you got an old CM7 version (probably beta5) which has a brightness bug. the main idea of CM7 is to take vanilla android and tweak it for speed and stability, and official froyo is added some moto stuffs, can't be smoother

i think the best experience is when you use stock ROM for very long (like myself and kysham) but once you flash custom ROM, you really appreciate the greatness of the custom ROM. stability wise, i can say they are not worse than stock, but the extras they bring is really good.
but use the stock ROM first, and be amaze when you flash new ROM. it's like having a new phone!! the sweet is sweeter after the bitter

i dont honestly think that it pushes components to the limit. one thing comes to mind. how many touch points does your stock defy has? 2? if you not sure, please download multitouch tester and press as many fingers you have on the screen and you will know. and by just rooting, you can add a multitouch program that gives you up to 10 point multitouch. now, is that pushing components to the limit? or plain unlocking the potential? i understand some components are pushed to the limits, like over-clocking, but then with root, you can under-volt, which means you;re using less voltage to run at same clock speed, meaning you're gaining precious battery life, thus giving your phone a longer lifespan.
dont just judge blindly. there are pros and cons in everything. try to get the max of the good, and lessen the bad.

no lah....just saying what should be pretty obvious. i realise most ppl are resistant to change, while some are very open to new things. having an open mind and compare with facts and logics still much better than just using 'feel' and emotions to make decisions.
i admit when i got my defy, i didnt DARE to root even, not because i dont want to. i'm just scared i screw up a RM1500 phone. but after rooting it, i left it for 2 weeks before i flashed a froyo ROM, and why? cos my SD card had a problem and had to re-format, so i will end up with a blank phone anyway, so i decided to just flash it. bro lingch can testify the hours he spent with my when i screw up the flashing process, and man, it does change a lot of things for me then. but once you take charge and do things properly, you realise it's not that hard after all. i've seen a 50+ year old man bought himself a HTC and did root and flash custom ROM. one is never to old to learn!

QUOTE(cientoo @ Jul 27 2011, 11:04 AM) hi bro...may i know why is there a need to have so many touch points for?. I am using MIUI but no multitouch program..tester only registers 2 touch points.. for touch points, it depends on your usage. generally 2 points is more than enough for most programs/games, but certain games require more touch points, like Tap Tap Revenge or games like that. if you find 2 points is enough, then it's good enough. but if you find that it's not enough, then you can add the program in. that's the beauty of Android Added on July 27, 2011, 11:25 ambtw, here's the link. the guy have put it up on android market https://market.android.com/details?id=defy.multitouch.vistaThis post has been edited by blackwhitechipsKL: Jul 27 2011, 11:25 AM

i over-clock to 1ghz only. so far, not really massive into games, so actually 800mhz is good enough. normal games like angry birds, cut the rope, etc is not heavy processor use. xda ppl have OC to 1.4Ghz, but i think that's really over-kill. i think 1.2Ghz will be safe, but that will definitely shorten the phone lifespan. if you plan to use the phone for 3 years only, then by all means, overclock it to 1.4Ghz (at your own risk ah!)

QUOTE(Long88 @ Jul 28 2011, 07:45 PM) haha, if this is true, then the DEFY will even be much more powerful, although with an UNLOCK bootloader, the risk of bricking the phone is real, unlike currently, the locked bootloader is actually preventing ppl from really bricking the phone. just a wipe and flash with RSDlite is enough to solve anything. an UNLOCKED bootloader can mean real bricking, and your DEFY will be really a paperweight. with great power comes great responsiblities

problem is, Motorola ROMs sure come with some Moto stuffs which tends to lag the phone. luckily the ROMs here are not Motoblur, but still with all the Moto stuffs that i dislike using. if you read Cyanogen Mod concept, they take the vanilla android ROM and add stability/speed and customisability to the ROM, basically souping up a standard ROM to be a better performing ROM. you can still have the vanilla ROM feel with the correct launchers, but at the end of the day, the Android advantage is it's ability to customise everything. if you're not gonna customise anything and happy being vanilla, better buy iPhone....at least ppl will go, wah....ANOTHER iphone user

i also like cm7, but i really like the miui dialer, and the eye candy, so i'll trade it. another good thing is you can customised each single icon but in miui launcher, you cant probably wait till cm7 goes official, then go back to cm7 play play Added on July 28, 2011, 11:06 pmanyone using this?? maybe can switch ROM much much easier? or need an unlocked bootloader to work? imagine having 5 ROMs to choose!! http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/07/28/bo...holics-rejoice/This post has been edited by blackwhitechipsKL: Jul 28 2011, 11:06 PM

slow slow and be patient lah...last time ppl say Defy wont get CM7, but see where we are now? no CM7 = no MIUI. i'm sure we will get CM8 even! 1.7.29 is just a weekly update. dont like, just flash back to 1.7.22 lah, nothing wrong. if not, just use until next Fri. again, nothing wrong.

wow, really?? what made you make the decision? i honestly do not really see that much difference. if you keep using quadrant, i think it's a waste of time.
as long as the phone serves its purpose, a bit slow is ok lah. you can still use setvsel to increase the clockspeed what
