Hi, I'm currently taking Software Engineering in MMU. This is my second semester, but it's my first long semester(which contains all the IT related subjects). I find SE very hard. Especially coz it contains a lot of maths and etc.

I love Photography, Photoshop and all those related digital things. So I am thinking to change my course to do what I love. Change to Faculty of Creative Multimedia. The courses are ;

Bachelor of Multimedia (Hons) Digital Media
Bachelor of Multimedia (Hons) Film and Animation
Bachelor of Multimedia (Hons) Media Innovation
Bachelor of Multimedia (Hons) Interface Design

Someone explained to me in Kopitiam's MMU thread but I don't understand that much.

DM, mostly involve interactive media, something like Kinect or maybe Wii and also, a lot of creating your own app/game with Action Script.

FA, mostly special effect, character design and animation, if you're going for director-wannabe, skip this.

MI, Advertising campaign, copywriting, and branding. Mostly tapau all the stuff in FCM. HOWEVER, they touch the surface only, not so deep into it.

ID, well... UI design, user-friendly stuff, creating OVI apps (because Nokia is involved), and product design.

So I guess it's either Film and Animation that suits me the best right? But is it true that I have to take Foundation all over again?

How is the job opportunity after I graduate compared to Software Engineering? Salary like?

Thank you so much btw smile.gif

It is true that you have to take Foundation all over again, this time in Creative Multimedia. That's the rule of FCM. Or perhaps you should try to ask the FCM office in case there's any changes?

To understand more about the majors, ask FCM seniors that you know from diff majors. Or else, seek consultation from your academic adviser (but then who knows if the adviser knows anything about FCM?)

Job opportunity and salary wise I don't know much so not in a good position to comment smile.gif

How good are you with drawing on paper?

Hmm you wont be thought how to draw, that you have to learn yourself - you'll be expected to come up with a lot of pencil sketches. Like a LOT of pencil sketches.

If you're taking PTPTN,FCM graduates typically earn lesser than Software Engineering grads, so it will be a big pain in your butt when you wanna buy your car, house etc later.

Added on July 14, 2011, 6:35 amBtw I started with FCM because I "loved Photoshop" too.

Yes. Film & Animation consists of a lot of 3D modelling and animation using Autodesk Maya.

Added on July 14, 2011, 9:42 pmDid you even ask the students in real life at all? Or ask the admin office to refer you to a FCM academic advisor or something?

FA, not many animation house in Malaysia. A lot of FCM students end up doing other things. Job opportunity a lot better if you do programming.
