Go Hardware shop and ask for Plaster Ceiling "gam"
it a white powder which you mix with water and you can apply into the gap using a spatula. use wood to push up the cornice until it dries (abt 24 hrs to be safe)
or ask plaster ceiling guy to come fix it up (abt RM100 - 200 depending on where you stay)

Might be the frame above it coming off. If it was installed long time ago, the frame would be made of wood and might rot over time.

Happened to my parents place where the ceiling collapsed!! Had to redo entire thing including change the frame into alluminium.

Is your ceiling cement or another plaster ceiling?
If it is plaster ceiling, you may want to use a water gauge measurement tool to measure the flatness of the ceiling. If it is not flat, then you actually have a bigger problem on hand and the cornice is a symptom of that.

If your ceiling is cement, then you can DIY just like "tipuism" said.

Well, when it comes to jobs with a scale like this, it is best that we do not to argue with the price. A skilled general worker + cornices + plaster + transportation + 1 day time (even if it is a small job, the contractor is not able to take another job during that day due to time and travelling distance) will add up to at least 30% of the total cost.

You are very lucky to get him as the contractor has no other job to take on.

The ceiling look like RC flat roof to me.

Above another floor or this is the top floor?

Is there any water mark?

Water penetration/leakage can also cause the cornice to give way.

If water is the problem, u hv to do water proofing first or fix the leakage first.

My house is a 1st floor... i don't think this is due to water penetration or leakage...most likely, this is due to my top neighbour just renovate their house...the been drilling few days then only this thing happen...'malas mau gaduh' with neighbour..nanti jadi lain hal. Anyway, thank you for your concern.

A tube of white silicon from your nearby hardware shop would have done the job. Cost less than RM10/ tube smile.gif
