eh? i thought jordan now 7-speed edi? i thought they using toyota engines and stuff this year, so i guess the transmission should also be from toyota? not sure about minardi though. i just know they got some sort of engine upgrade instead of using the same old engine. i think they should've changed the transmission i guess

Fisichella, that was bad luck. But he probably brought down some with him. He misled some teams into thinking that intermediates arent working anymore. tongue.gif

Maybe la, dunno. But the tyre changes while the SC seemed to say that.

renault was damn bloody lucky yesterday

it might team orders from flavio that fisi go bang the car

then sc came out in order that alonso can catch nearby rather than a 30 sec gap

but who knows mclaren wit the counter plan of slowin them down on the pits tongue.gif

Well, Ron sums up Briatore brilliantly with this

QUOTE(Ron Dennis)
"In many ways I'm in awe of Flavio. I've never seen someone win so many races and know so little about a racing car, but it obviously works for him so why change it."

next year
if renault pawn the f1 scene
then they are true winner
and deserves respect
in the form of drivers and engineers

and if others fail early in thee year
there will be no excuses

come to think about it
this season renault doesnt win on luck that much
more toward stability and consistancies
other teamss just failed to bring it early on

can u imagine now that
red bull is contender material
that they show early on

i even thought the moolah brought in by red bull
could change a team like what roman do to chelsea

Alonso LC? what do u mean, leng chai? laugh.gif his eyebrow so thick tongue.gif

Anyway what i don't like about Alonso and Flavio is how they celebrated at that race where he won when Kimi crash out. He can be happy, but not celebrate till like he won it with his own effort doh.gif

MS didn't celebrate at all when Mika car breaks down and hand MS the win...anyway, no offenc to renault fan...at least the team is a very good team (the engineers for making a good car)....hope renault together wit Mac will sign up the contract with FIA for year 2008 and beyond...

I still put my faith on Kimi Raikonen. He has been doing extremely well in this season. Just a few races he forced to pull out due to car failure may cause him the championships.

wow, many Mclaren fans are now in this tread?
anyway, i've read a review of the braziilian GP just now and i had to laugh at the writer's anti Alonso's feeling

QUOTE
Interlagos, lest anyone needs reminding, is the scene of Alonso's BIG STUPID MOMENT from 2003 when after Mark Webber's crash he drove an entire lap at racing speed, ignoring double waved yellows and then crashed into Webber's Jaguar with all the certainty of a moth heading for a flame. And received no penalty for it.

Yeah...since Alonso is world champion, now all Renault need to do is go for the constructors championship. Take home double XD

But I doubt it since Mclaren finished a strong 1-2 in Brazil, they could run away with the constructors

Wonder Alonso will use the same word for himself if 2006 F1 turns the luck the other way round for Kimi and Alonso.

However, I think Alonso is still talented even I do not quite like him.

1st im not a renault or alonso fans but i would like to make some comments of my own.

1st,yes,kimi is a more deserved winner compared to alonso.what alonso do is just defensive style of driving while kimi has show us what a f1 driver is suppose to be.nevertheless, congrats to renault because they came up with a good package which is consistence compared to mclaren.

2nd,yes,alonso is lanci.he is the one that is always talking bullshit and crap about his championship and kimi's 'good luck'.This is a whole lot of horseshit man.who is luckier?kimi was forced to retire due to mechanical failures for 3/4 GP's while alonso only retired once in canada due to his own stupudity and amatuer driving.

3rd,i have no big offense to renault's team but the person i ahte most is FLAVIO BRIATORE.He is damn irritating.Whenever he wins,he jumps up and down and brab and brag in front of the press. But when he losses,he show his damn idiotic hot tempered and unsatisfactory face for the tv to see.I just feel like punching his damn irritating face everytme i see him

4th,back to alonso. This guy is smart.no doubt.when he wins he also brags, when he losses he thinks of a reason to save his image. When he's afraid that his luck might run out next year,he said so much earlier that he might not win the championship.why he said so?to cover up his shame if he cant win next year which is most likely will happen

There were some suggestion that renault might consider to or not to continue in F1....it seems they suggest that their involvement in F1 is more depend on their car sales then wanting the publicity in F1....and their sales profit fell lately...and so fueling the rumor that renault might quit...i think u can find some news regarding the statement made by the renault company

R26 top of the pile

Renault rounded off a successful debut test with the all-new R26 by lapping fastest on the fourth and final day of testing at Jerez on Friday. Reigning champion Fernando Alonso clocked a best time of 1:18.512 to beat Honda's Anthony Davidson into second with Giancarlo Fisichella third in the R25.

I heard that one of the staff (important post - GM i think) just change ppl....
then the new guy before come to Renault is GM at one automobil company at Japan.....the Japan company involved in car race (something like F1) in Japan....once the guy go to them, it quit from the car race....n he successfullu secure the car company, the company car sales is improveing until turn to be one of the best sales in Japan......

So i just wonder whether will he coz Renault to quit F1 like the Jappan company.....

p/s: too bad i remember the info about this story....read this a month ago i think.....

'Renault won't quit' says chief

CEO Carlos Ghosn on Tuesday put paid to speculation Renault would quit Formula One saying they would stay "as long as we are competitive." Speaking at the official presentation of the 2006 car, the R26, Ghosn insisted the French manufacturer - team and drivers champions last year - was staying put.

Renault begin search for successor
Reuters - 01/02/2006

"We will have a good team in 2007 also," team president Patrick Faure told reporters at the launch of the Formula One champion manufacturer's new car in Monaco on Tuesday.

Asked how they planned to fill the gap left by Alonso's decision to move to McLaren, and whether Renault intended to sign a 'superstar driver', he made clear that the team's spending power was limited.

"I wouldn't say that we have the budget to find the best drivers. I think we have a special talent to find new, very talented young drivers," Faure said.

"We will see with Kovalainen now and we may have some ideas for the future also with some young people," he added.

Nope tat wasnt it. Button was unlucky to be traped behind 2 backmarker for quite long and tat gave Alonso the advantage.
Fisi was rely flying, great job by him.

Meh, renault winning was a suprise really. Unlike McLaren and Ferrari, they don't have a long history in this motorsport as a winning team. Even tho in 94-97 they did win, but that was with Benneton and Williams

i think in m'sia not much of renault fan or alonso fan..As those scale car models of renaults can be easily found in stores while ferrari and mclaren are selling like hot cakes...
even during the sepang race, most of them were on either ferrari or mclaren merchandise..

Well, Renault sort of like went into hibernation since Schumi left them... until Alonso came along. Now they are slowly building their fan base again.

ah, u know. most ppl out there prefere to support champions lol. They come when u win, and switch side when u loose.

Not all lar...but mostly among those casual F1 fan. of course there will always be a number of die hard fan that stick to one team no matter what.

About alonso, no doubt he's reminding all of us about MSchumi. If he goes to win the title again this year, well, schumi won it 2 times as well, under Flavio.

Flavio may always act like an ass but everyone have their own way in playing mind games in F1. This guy is good at picking up champions, he made no mistake when he picked MS, and Alonso could also consider as a sucess.

That said, I'm very interested in knowing who will he pick this time. Alonso is leaving (I dont see alonso doing a button stunt) I expect he'll go all out to get a top driver, like Kimi, or worst case scenario, montoya lol. But I think the other seat will be a fresh driver. Wont be surprise to see Nico there.

Alonso unfazed by Schumacher win

QUOTE
Fernando Alonso is still confident of sustaining his title bid, despite missing the US Grand Prix podium.

Schumacher cut Alonso's lead in the championship to 19 points as the Renault driver struggled to fifth.

"My championship position is still very strong," insisted the 25-year-old. "That's a big reason to stay positive.

"Ferrari and Bridgestone were quicker than us, but in 10 races we've had the better tyres for nine of them, so I am not worried for the next Grands Prix."

Sunday's race saw Schumacher end Alonso's run of four straight wins with victory at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Seven-time world champion Schumacher led home team-mate Felipe Massa for a Ferrari one-two which broke a run of four consecutive wins for Alonso.

Giancarlo Fisichella provide some respite for Renault by claiming third.

"To be on the podium at such a hard track for us is a strong result, and I think things will get back to normal again in Magny-Cours," said Fisichella.

But Alonso said he was still satisfied with his performance on a difficult weekend for Renault and tyre manufacturer Michelin.

"I was not competitive all weekend and the car was lacking grip all the way through the race, as well as completing race two of a very hard cycle for the engine," added the Spaniard, who won the Canadian Grand Prix last week.

"So I did the maximum possible, and made sure I scored points for the championship.

"Looking back to last year, I scored zero points in North America; this year, I have scored 14."

Renault engineering boss Pat Symonds said: "Fernando struggled with the car this weekend, but we did as much as we could to limit the damage in terms of the championship.

"Track temperatures were in the 50Cs, and on a circuit that demands so much from the tyres, Michelin responded in a conscientious manner."

RENAULT....are expected to release the driver line up for 07 season at this weeks French GP....maybe Monday we will be clearer as to where Kimi will end up!

I believe renault could offer a winning car to kimi, but also mark webber could be i line for a drive if Frank does not take the option up on him for 07/08 season.

All should be clear in the next few weeks.

Webber has the talent but he does not have a cool head. Hence, if the door is open to Kimi, he will stand a slimmer chance of securing the seat.

Alonso still confident on title
BBC
QUOTE
Fernando Alonso believes he can bounce back after losing out to Michael Schumacher for the second race in a row at the French Grand Prix.

"We knew that Michael was a bit quicker this weekend - like in Imola and the Nrburgring," said the Renault driver.

"Back then, everybody thought that Michael would win all the races after two wins in a row, and we responded very strongly.

"Hopefully, we can do the same at Hockenheim in two weeks' time."

Schumacher became the first driver to win the same Grand Prix eight times with a commanding victory, from pole position, at Magny-Cours on Sunday.

His 88th career win, and fourth of the season for Ferrari, saw the German close the gap on championship leader Alonso to 17 points.

Alonso also missed out at the previous race at Indianapolis, where he had settle for fifth as Schumacher led a Ferrari one-two.

But the Spaniard did well to limit the damage to just two points on Sunday after edging Ferrari's Felipe Massa into third.

"Given where I started on the grid, I think second is everything I could have hoped for," he added.

"Once we saw that Ferrari would be three-stopping then we knew it would be hard to pass them on the track.

"So we chose to rely on the consistent tyre performance, and make two stops.

"The car balance was consistent all the way through the race, and I pushed hard to make sure I could get ahead of Felipe in the final part of the race."

Engineering boss Pat Symonds is also confident that Renault can return to winning ways in time for the German Grand Prix at the end of the month.

"We are now looking forward to Germany, where we will have substantial revisions to the aerodynamics and engine," he told the Renault website.

"We lost two races to Ferrari earlier in the season, and bounced back strongly. That's what we intend to do again, beginning in Hockenheim."

Alonso 'can end Ferrari charge'
BBC
QUOTE
Renault driver Fernando Alonso said he was "very optimistic" of halting title rival Michael Schumacher's run of form at Sunday's German Grand Prix.

Ferrari star Schumacher has won the last two races to close to within 17 points of Alonso in the championship.

But the reigning champion said he was confident of a return to winning ways.

"I am feeling very optimistic," the Spaniard said. "We had a strong first half of the season and I think we can finish 2006 the way we started it."
But Alonso admitted it was important to turn the tables on Ferrari as soon as possible - and especially so at Schumacher's home race.

"It's important to beat Michael at every race - not just Hockenheim," Alonso said.

"We know that at this stage of the season, we have to be finishing in front of the Ferraris.

"But I think that a win in Germany could be worth more than 10 points because of the psychological aspect.

"I try to win all the races - but it would mean a lot to take the victory here."

Renault have struggled to match Ferrari in the last two races as the Italian team's tyre supplier Bridgestone has appeared to enjoy an advantage over Renault's partner Michelin.

Michael Schumacher wins the French Grand Prix
Schumacher and Ferrari have won the last two races
Alonso said: "We are in the middle of a good fight between the tyre manufacturers at the moment.

"Michelin and Bridgestone are pushing each other hard at every race.

"We have fantastic tyres on the car and Michelin are giving us the extra performance, that's why we are leading the championship.

"I am confident for the rest of the year and certain that Michelin can become champions again."

Renault have some major upgrades to their car for the German race, following on from Ferrari doing the same for the last event in France.

And Alonso said he was sure Renault's car development could keep pace with Ferrari.

"I think we are developing the car in a good way at the moment," he said.

"We began the season with a fantastic car, so maybe that left us a little less room to improve than the other teams.

"But even though our competitors are developing and trying to come back, we are still winning races. The team hasn't stopped improving the car and engine."

Renault engineering director said this year's title battle with Ferrari was much tougher than last year's against McLaren.

"Last year, our rivals had a speed advantage and their Achilles heel was reliability," Symonds said.

"We were on the same tyres, which meant it would be hard to race them - so we went conservative to benefit from their reliability problems.

"This year, Ferrari are on different tyres to us, so their performance is not in synch with ours. What's more, they have had bloody good reliability.

"As a team, we have improved our performance in every area, scored more points and finished more races.

"But that isn't enough this year, we have to develop aggressively and race aggressively too, which is a much more fun way of going racing. In retrospect, 2005 seems almost boring in comparison!"

Alonso brushes off title pressure
BBC
QUOTE
Fernando Alonso said he was unconcerned after German Grand Prix winner Michael Schumacher reduced his championship lead to 11 points.

But the Spaniard, who finished fifth, admitted that his Renault team need to improve in the coming races.

"I'm not worried as far as I'm in front of him," he said afterwards.

"But it's true that if we keep going like this, in three or four races we will be equal in points and this is not good for me."

Alonso started the day at Hockenheim with a 17-point lead over Ferrari rival Schumacher but saw that gap slashed as he matched his season's worst finish.

But the defending world champion, who turned 25 on Saturday, refused to blame Renault's performance on a ban introduced by the sport's governing body - the FIA - this weekend on a suspension system pioneered by Renault.

The "mass damper" system, adopted by at least six other teams, uses a counterweight within the suspension to enhance stability.

Asked how much the ban had affected his car's performance, Alonso answered: "I don't think that much, to be honest.

"It's true with this result that it is easy to say this would affect the car but I'm totally sure in Hungary we will be back with the right set-up, right tyre and forget the dampers."

However, Alonso believes tyre problems played a part in Sunday's display.

"We were not competitive this weekend, but I did the maximum I could and so did the team," added the Spaniard, who has won six races to Schumacher's five this season.

"I think that without the [tyre] blistering we experienced, the podium was a possibility for me even from seventh position."

Schumacher, however, hailed his Hockenheim victory as a turning point in the world title race.

"It is the right moment in time when we needed to have such a performance in order to bring down the gap in the championship and keep the pressure on," said the German.

"Naturally the performance we have shown in the last three races against our competition gives us great confidence.

"Hopefully we can reduce the gap in the championship pretty quickly. It is important we use this opportunity."

The Suspicious Stink of F1
Opinion: It's difficult to concentrate on Winners and Losers when there's such a strong smell of suspicion coming from the FIA's technical delegate.

It's a bit like sitting down to watch a film you've been looking forward to and finding that a piggery has moved next door. Charlie Whiting's move to ban the Renault damping system so pivotal to their set-up makes me mega suspicious - and trying to focus on the German GP has been hard given such a rank smell.

The fact is that Renault will have shown their damping system to him before they put it on the car; it has reportedly been on the car since Brazil 2005, and only now - with the F1 Championship delicately poised - does he decide to ban it. It raises huge questions over either his competency or raises the possibility of connivance within the FIA.

If the system was illegal then it should have been banned straight away. If it was illegal and he failed to spot it for nine months then clearly he is not up to the job.

Whiting's ban was undermined by the fact that the FIA's own race stewards could see nothing wrong with the Renault system.

The timing is very suspicious, coming so soon after the French GP when Fernando Alonso snatched an unlikely second place. Perhaps something needed to be done to put a bigger gap between Schumacher and Alonso if Schumi is to win the 2006 Championship.

Exactly the same thing happened in 2003 when after the Hungarian GP it looked like the 2003 season was getting away from the Scuderia. All of a sudden Max Mosley was announcing that there was a problem with the shoulder of the Michelin tyre and the tyre rules were tightened up to benefit Bridgestone. Embarrassingly for the FIA, Mosley said they hadn't been influenced by anybody and then subsequently Ross Brawn admitted that they had told the FIA about it and that Max had flown down to Maranello the next day.

That stank too.

Tom Rubython. the maverick publisher of F1 Business magazine is not slow to point out that Ross Brawn and Charlie Whiting have been drinking buddies in the past. He has also been very vocal pointing out the unwise nature of such a relationship given the fact that Whiting is the keeper of all the teams' F1 secrets. He knows the technology on all the cars and (no pun intended) needs to be whiter than white..

Maybe it is just coincidental that it came now and we are being overly critical. Only complete transparency will rid us of our doubts. What the FIA need to do now is print a full report. We need to know:
a) Why did Whiting ban the system now?
b) Was he prompted by another team - and if so, who?

It's unlikely Whiting will step down. He is one of Bernie Ecclestone's coterie of former Brabham personnel such as Herbie Blash who he likes to keep around him at races.

Our opinion is this: keep him as race director, for which he is very competent, and appoint a new technical delegate who does not fraternise with any team. And print a full report into the circumstances surrounding this highly controversial move.

Alonso suffers blow for Hungary
BBC
QUOTE
Renault face a difficult Hungarian Grand Prix weekend after deciding not to use a pioneering design that was banned for the last race.

Renault have reversed a decision to fit their cars with a radical design system they had been intending to use.

F1's governing body had said it would not seek to punish teams using the "mass damper", but Renault removed it following a later communication.

Renault's Fernando Alonso struggled in Germany last Sunday without the system.

By contrast, title rival Michael Schumacher won his third straight race and is now 11 points behind the Spaniard with six races to go.

The Ferrari driver has cut Alonso's once-massive lead by 14 points in just three races, all of which the German has won.

Alonso said Germany was "probably the hardest" race of the season "because we were not competitive throughout the weekend".

A Renault spokesman said the team had "reconsidered" its decision to use the system following a communication from governing body the FIA explaining why it thought the "mass damper" was illegal.

The spokesman added that the team hoped they would not be as far off the pace in Hungary as they were in Germany.

"That was more down to tyre wear at Hockenheim," the spokesman said. "We hadn't seen an exponential rise in tyre wear without the mass damper before that - certainly not at Jerez (where Renault tested without the system before the German race)."

The "mass damper" is a counterweight mounted on springs within the nose of the car that enhances stability.

Renault learned before the German race that they would not be allowed to use the system, which they pioneered last season and which has subsequently been adopted by six other teams.

The FIA said before the race that it considered the system to be illegal because it helped the cars' aerodynamics.

But the FIA's race stewards in Germany then passed the system as legal - only for FIA bosses to say they intended to lodge an appeal against that decision.

As that appeal will not take place until after this weekend's race in Hungary, Renault felt they could not risk running the suspension system in Germany as they could have subsequently lost the points it scored if the FIA won its appeal.

But the FIA indicated after the German race that it would not seek to retrospectively punish any team using a "mass damper" if its appeal was successful.

Renault said following that announcement initially that it would use the system in Hungary, but a subsequent letter from FIA race director Charlie Whiting to the teams changed their minds.

Renault was hurt by the ban more than other teams because its entire car was designed around the system, whereas others had simply added it on at a later date.

As a result, not having the system causes Renault much greater problems with the behaviour of its car's aerodynamics and suspension.

And the blow is even worse because F1 is in the middle of a ban on testing, which means the team cannot try out ways of improving the car other than at races, where track time is limited.

Engineering boss Pat Symonds admitted that the team's performance was harmed by not running the "mass damper".

He said after the German race that "it goes without saying that removing the mass damper degraded our performance, otherwise the component would not have been on the car throughout the season.

"After using the device for the first time in the final races of 2005, the design and development of this year's car was optimised with it in place.

"The ride and the behaviour over kerbs of the R26 at the last race was certainly not as good as we have been accustomed to this year. But there were other factors at work as well."

Renault also struggled with tyre blistering, which was almost certainly worsened by not using the "mass damper", but they are hopeful that a new tyre for Hungary will solve that problem.

The team will also continue with a new aerodynamic package that was introduced in Germany, where its effectiveness was limited by the team's other problems.

Renault are facing a tough task holding on to their championship lead as Ferrari's tyre supplier Bridgestone has appeared to have an advantage over Michelin in the last three races.

Stewards penalise 'dangerous' Alonso
Unacceptable driving from the Championship leader

F1 Stewards at the Hungaroring have thrown the book at championship leader Fernando Alonso following incidents during practice on Friday.

The Spaniard will have two seconds added to his lap times in each of the three sections of knockout qualifying on Saturday, which could leave his Renault car stranded down the grid on a circuit that is notoriously difficult to pass on.

Alonso was summoned to the Stewards' room in Budapest after weaving and apparently brake-testing Red Bull test driver Robert Doornbos in the free afternoon session.

A statement said the reigning World Champion's antics were 'unnecessary, unacceptable and dangerous', while Alonso (also) also overtook under a yellow flag.

I have not seen anyone so lucky in F1 in my F1 years from last year a few occassions going from the back to get a leading points from Kimi and yesterday out of the race with just a few laps to go, all of surely thinks that's the end of the spinard with Shuey in 2nd place but then lady lucky seem have not left the spinard yet and deliver a bad tire to Shuey and he force out of race!

Now Shuey with 11 points behind and 5 more races to go..this is an uphill task for the german to defeat the spinard as Renault is known for their superb traction and pick up!

your hate is on that basis alone or is there another more valid reason
so if like that you also hate valentino rossi as well?

i have no qualms with all the f1 drivers
even those who keep banging kimi or montoya stooopid drive
but i drew the line on the "other" driver who keep doing stunts with intent
(I stress on the intent here because most of the other incident is a racing incident)
to hinder his competiter whenever he is put in a disadvantage situations

Fisi was not sacrificing himself, HE JUST DON'T WANT TO BE HIT. Both he and Kimi was the only 2 drivers at the start accident that stopped and gave ppl room, but in Kimi's case, Speed took advantage of that and slammed into him.

yeah, like a young guy named Schumacher that basically muscled his way to win the '94 WC tongue.gif
Young or not, Alonso is the WC, and that's a fact. To win in an age younger that when most of the F1 racers are just starting their careers just shows you how good he can get

valentino rossi is a young motogp racer
he also have antics when he win a race
and people(yeah the living kind) actually like it when he do things like wheelie and stoppie and jumping on the stage.
i guess some ppl are different than the others and i accept it as a norm
you seem to project yourself and along with f1 racing on a higher plane
and cant accept anything different and treat it a a deviant
i also see this with the iTV personnel where they would favour button(cos they're british) over others,
but i dont see them having hatred to any other driver
now thats professionalism

me?
i just hate the has-been 7 time winner-used to dude
because most ppl here hates alonso
plus i supports maclaren

ya you keep forgeting
when he nknows that others have a chance
he'll certainly creates "incidents" to ensure that he still have a chance
-example
= ms banging into damon hill to prevent both driver finish the last race so to maintain a slim lead over damon hill to win the championship
= required to stop and go during a race but do it just after finishing the race Z( HAH!!! what kind of logic is dat?)
= on monaco this year, said to have an "accident" and "stalled the engine on the 2nnd last corner to prevent alonso (which have a faster car during that time) to complete the final qualifying lap time

that show you the character of the "SEVEN TIME WORLD CHAMP" when it is down to racing
and i never like the UNDERHAND, CONNIVING, CHEATERS as a world champion again
Yamamoto can win it for all i care
just not that f@#ktard again

Alonso wants 'special' Monza win
BBC
QUOTE
Renault's Fernando Alonso heads into Sunday's Italian Grand Prix with a double dose of motivation to win.

The Spaniard wants to extend his points lead over Michael Schumacher, but he is also keen to inflict the pain of a home defeat on the German's Ferrari team.

"This year I have won in Silverstone, in Monaco, in Spain - and for sure I want to win Monza, too," he said.

"It is one of the legendary tracks so it would be special, and even more so to beat Ferrari in their home race."

Alonso extended his championship lead to 12 points by finishing second ahead of Schumacher at the last race in Turkey.

But he admits that victory at Monza will be tough - Ferrari have been the pace-setters in F1 for the last three months.

"There is only one target for the Renault team at the moment - to finish in front of Ferrari," he said.

"They have been quite dominant in the last races, so beating them means winning races. That is our focus."

Alonso has taken encouragement from his result in Turkey, which was won by Schumacher's team-mate Felipe Massa.

He finished second even though the team were prevented from racing their "mass dampers", a device that aids tyre grip but which has been declared illegal by the sport's bosses.

"I think the team did a fantastic job in Turkey," Alonso said.

"We have had a strange summer, with the mass damper decision and some poor results, so it was good to prove to everybody that the car is competitive regardless.

"We really fought hard in that race, and it shows we are ready to fight with Ferrari all the way to the end of the championship."

Renault feel hard done by, especially because governing body the FIA had declared the mass damper legal when the team first decided to run it at the end of last season.

But technical director Bob Bell said the ban had made the team more determined to win the title than ever.

"Clearly, the team suffered from the fact that the loss of the mass damper coincided with the summer test ban," Bell said.

"We have now had the chance to reoptimise the R26, and the events of the summer have made us hungrier to prove we can do the job.

"Our points-scoring momentum might have dipped, but importantly there is no loss of momentum in the team's effort to put out a winning car at each race.

"We will be working as hard as humanly possible to come out on top of what will be a very close battle, as the advantage swings back and forth between us and Ferrari."

That was the stupidest thing I've read. Yes, Michelin did a good job, but the F2005 was not that quick either. I mean how many reliability issue that we saw last season that left Michael with DNF's? Not to mention Fernando's consistensy was his greatest strength. Also, doesn't F1 is the sport where you win by using the things that are in the rules, so he won, and he won by the rules. it's not like he's cheating to win last season. Grow up. F1 is not a sport like football where you can wish for a miracle to happen. Unless someone meddles with it, it's not something that can be changed. Ferrari sux last season and the best team won. Get over it. not to mention that you chose the wrong thread to rant in. Not every person out here is a Ferrari supporter you know.
go learn some history before you post. You're a disgrace to the F1 fans everywhere

I am sorry.. I used to respect Alonso as a talented and good sportsman. But following his comments on "Michael is the most unsporting driver", my views have changed. How can you say such insulting and immature things to your rival, just because he catched up on you by 10 driver's points, and to the media at that? Even if it's true that MS is the most unsporting driver, you can't just point that straight out in front of the media. Millions of people are watching. You will be judged for what you say. That's just unwise. Alonso just made a bad move on his part as a rising young star. F1 is not just about sports. It's politics. It's commercial. Learn to use those to your favor.

Grow up, my young padawan.

Luckily Flavio is smart enough to aplogise to the FIA stating that Alonso "did it out of emotional outburst".

Piquet set for Renault test debut
BBC
QUOTE
New Renault test driver Nelson Piquet Jr will make his debut for the Renault F1 team at Silverstone next week.

Piquet, runner-up to Lewis Hamilton in the GP2 series, will tests at the Northamptonshire circuit with Renault's 2007 race driver Heikki Kovalainen.

Piquet, whose father Nelson won three F1 championips, said: "I am really looking forward to my first test.

"It will be a great chance to learn as much as I can and get to know everybody at the team."

The 21-year-old, who has also driven in the A1 GP series, added: "I like Silverstone very much and I have driven there a lot.

"So it's good that I don't have to worry about learning the track, I can just focus on driving a front-running car like the R26 for the first time.

"I am happy that I am getting three full days of testing because it will be more car time than any other F1 car I've driven."

Renault will also use former F1 driver Ricardo Zonta in their testing programme.

Alonso furore prompts F1 U-turn
BBC
QUOTE
Formula One bosses have moved to stop a repeat of last weekend's qualifying controversy that resulted in Fernando Alonso being punished for blocking.

Renault were angered after Ferrari's complaint against Alonso was upheld by Italian Grand Prix race stewards.

The decision meant Alonso was dropped from fifth to 10th for Sunday's grid.

But a letter by governing body the FIA said complaints about blocking in qualifying would "no longer be referred to the stewards of the meeting".

Although world champion Alonso was penalised for impeding Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, in-car video footage suggested the two were never closer than 100m.

But race stewards decided, after the matter was brought to their attention, that Massa had been impeded - albeit unintentionally.

The decision provoked widespread criticism inside the F1 paddock, with Renault head Flavio Briatore and Alonso suggesting afterwards that the championship was being manipulated in Ferrari's favour.

Alonso went into the Italian race with a 12-point lead over Schumacher, but his demotion limited his chances of preventing his rival closing the gap.

In the end, Alonso retired with engine failure having climbed up to third and Schumacher now trails him by only two points with three races remaining.

FIA race director Charlie Whiting wrote to the managers of all 11 teams this week explaining procedural changes as a result of the furore.

"Only in cases where it appears to race control that there has been a clear and deliberate attempt to impede another driver will the stewards be asked to intervene," Whiting wrote.

"We now feel it is pointless for the stewards to engage in long and painstaking enquiries if competitors ignore clear scientific evidence and instead abuse the regulator," he added, clearly referring to Renault's reaction.

Bell and Symonds: Renault renaissance to start in Spaini tnink they will bounce back in this season,

Added on April 16, 2008, 10:18 amto make this thread alive

Renault debut new engine cover at Spanish test

The Renault R28 quickly became one of the most photographed cars at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya on Tuesday morning, thanks to a revised aero package featuring a 'shark fin' extension on its engine cover.

The striking modification, which resembles a similar addition introduced by Red Bull to the RB4 back in March, is almost certainly aimed at providing better airflow to the R28's rear wing and maximising the car's stability under braking.

Former world champion Fernando Alonso has been charged with assessing the new engine cover, which is just one of a number of aerodynamic modifications Renault are experimenting with this week, as they bid to improve their car's performance ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix later this month.

Ferrari are also understood to be evaluating a radical change to their car during this week's test. The F2008 is running with a new slotted nosecone, which has been introduced to improve the car's downforce.

Alonso vows to help Massa win title
Link ~ http://en.f1-live.com

QUOTE
The 27-year-old later told Italy's Sky: "I didn't know why he (Hamilton) had been penalised. After last year, I want Ferrari to win. I will help Massa if I can."

"They have thrown away many points," Spain's Diario AS newspaper quotes him as saying.

"After 16 races the leader has 84 points, but I had that many after nine races in 2006," Alonso recalls.

Hamilton still haven't learn a thing from last year.
