hmmm.. still considering if wanna root and flash custom ROM or not.... hmm.gif hmm.gif

quite recently, im worried about hacking stuffs.. how do we know we can keep our private and confidential data safe? i mean, rooting giving access to file system, might as well giving access to backdoors and malicious wares too?.. worried..

this is a bored Monday, i dun feel like working.. huarrrghhhhhhhhh.. yawn.gif yawn.gif

rooted my sgs2..

few noob question (YES, i have read the first page, but still.. blush.gif ) :

i want to remove the yellow triangle warning sign. tried to follow >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399, but it said "extract the CF-root file until u get the zimage file": I COULDN'T GET IT. after extracted, i just got only 1 file CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OJV_KF1-v4.0-CWM4.tar. where is the zimage? need to re-extract the .tar file? but using what software? apparently my PC cant extract .tar file. blush.gif needed to push the zimage file into SD card....

and, in order to remove the yellow triangle also, will need to flash stock kernel. so i downloaded : I9100XWKF1_OLBKE5_DXKF1 zip file, then extracted it, i got 4 different files. i recognized them as KERNEL, CODE, MODEM and the other file i dun really knw what its stands for >> GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OLBKE5.tar.md5. as mentioned in the guide, using ODIN, flash the stock samsung kernel. does this mean, in ODIN, i have to check on PDA then select the file with the KERNEL name only, then start flash??

last but maybe not least biggrin.gif , about nand backup. im not really clear about the term. please correct me if im wrong, to perform a nand backup, go to CWM> backup.. just that? the backup file, where can i find it? should it be saved somewhere else?

to all sifus, thanks in advance. notworthy.gif

1) just flash the .tar file..no need extract..use ODIN tick PDA...open from pda..

2) yes..check on PDA flash the kernel only..

3) yup..it saves at clockworkmode>backup> (the name of your backup)..

thanks. notworthy.gif

but, based on the guide, need to push zimage file into sd-card, then flash stock kernel, then using CWM, flash the zimage file.. but i cant get the zimage file, how?.. or NO NEED the zimage file? just flash the stock kernel, and done?

Download 7-zip to extract .tar file. the zImage file is inside the .tar file. Not sure if flashing from the .tar itself will work. I myself bought the jig to remove the exclamation mark.

thanks for reply..

I just tried this out of curiosity:

I JUST FLASH THE STOCK KERNEL FROM ODIN, in ODIN, click PDA, choose the stock kernel only, then start flash. phone reboot, THE YELLOW TRIANGLE GONE! no extra step, thats it. DONE.

so i wonder why there are extra steps in the guide to push zimage into sd-card and flash it thru CWM. << in my case, NOT NEEDED TO BE DONE

Kinda feel this thread is getting more and more rubbish questions.

Anyways, incase anyone is wondering..

I tested both Lite-ning 2.0 and Villain 2.0. For me, i still prefer Villain. I thought of going to Lite-ning as usually that rom does not have problems with the stock browser but it seems the dev even removed the stock browser and replaced it with SkyFire which i feel its totally crap

im flshing to villian 2.0 too.. currently im on KF1.. do i need to flash to KF2?

guys, i need to correct my statement.

regarding the removing yellow warning triangle as quoted above.

YES, after i just flashed the stock kernel, the yellow triangle GONE. Superuser and CWM apps still retained in my device (means i still have root access)

a few moments i tot im good to go, but problem occurs when i tried to flash custom ROM. it just WON'T flash!

i figured out that the ChainFire kernel was gone, thats y i won't flash. thus, i downloaded 7-zip and extract the zimage files from the CF .tar. flashed the zimage, then only can flash custom ROM.

i just dun want to be misleading to other noob here..

thanks

(testing the Villain 2.0 now thumbup.gif )

Performance tweaks / deodexed only..  Doesn't mean there will be visual changes inside the ROM itself.

Also, just because the apps are there doesn't mean they are functional tongue.gif

QUOTE(benny888 @ Jul 11 2011, 07:43 PM)
In Android file system, applications come in packages with the extension .apk. These application packages, or APKs contain certain .odex files whose supposed function is to save space. These ‘odex’ files are actually collections of parts of an application that are optimized before booting. Doing so speeds up the boot process, as it preloads part of an application. On the other hand, it also makes hacking those applications difficult because a part of the coding has already been extracted to another location before execution.

THEN COMES DEODEX

Deodexing is basically repackaging of these APKs in a certain way, such that they are reassembled into classes.dex files. By doing that, all pieces of an application package are put together back in one place, thus eliminating the worry of a modified APK conflicting with some separate odexed parts.

In summary, Deodexed ROMs (or APKs) have all their application packages put back together in one place, allowing for easy modification such as theming. Since no pieces of code are coming from any external location, custom ROMs or APKs are always deodexed to ensure integrity.

Thanks for the lenghty reply. smile.gif

referring to reply by bro optimus2x, so does deodexing caused the stock browser lag? If it true, then better dun deodex. hmm

try flash cf root inside first, flash the wipe cache and dalvik, flash cf-kf2 root, then flash litening rom, then clear cache&dalvik again if u hit bootloop, i followed this and didnt encounter the error

things i enjoyed in the new version,
the new swype keyboard rocks, having the recommendation at the bottom is alot nicer =D
galaxy on fire 2 no longer has graphic glitches! now i can enjoy the superior beauty of the game!
asphalt 6 runs smooth!  drool.gif

other than that i dont see any new improvements, battery still dies like nobody business
*
Bro.. how do u get asphalt 6? Im trying looking for it, use market enabler also cant see it in market..
