Hi,

Long time lurker, first time poster in this thread. Built a new rig roughly 2 weeks back, with the intention to eventually OC it. An FX8350, Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0 motherboard, G.Skill RAM as per my signature and the CM Seidon 120M liquid kit. Attached below are 2 screenshots of HWmonitor showing my temps, first image shows idle on CPU temps and second image shows under load temps (Prime95 running).

My question is, are they normal for an 8350? Especially a liquid-cool 8350. This is in a non-air conditioned room. I want to confirm this before OC'ing. Also, should I be looking at the temperatures under the ASUSTeK->Temperatures->CPU area/category, or the other one at AMD FX-8350->Temperatures->Package ?

Many thanks in advance. Cheers.

never managed to see the 8350's temperatures with stock cooling, built this rig and immediately used the Seidon 120M.

Right now with air-conditioning on in the room, Core Temp shows me at idle 19*C but from what I know Core Temp is showing core temperatures or rather what is stated as the 'Package' temperatures in HWmonitor.

Right now on HWmonitor on the other hand; Package shows alternating between 18*C to 19*C at idle, and CPU (Under the Motherboard's sub-section, hence what I think is the temperature of the CPU socket instead) shows 34*C idle.

Would help if another FX-8350 user could cross-check/compare their temps with me.

Thanks for responding btw smile.gif Rather quiet in this thread.

The values/temps shown in my previous post here in the 2 screenshots are without AC on, and back then I forgot to turn off Q-Fan function in my motherboard bios, hence the Seidon 120M's water pump wasn't running at full power. Fixed. smile.gif

ok smile.gif so 34*C Idle temperatures are ok for an 8350? water-cooled. Thanks for reply in advance.

previously the idle was 40+ (without AC on) but that was my mistake not ensuring the water pump run at full smile.gif

Current temperatures under full 100% load, prime95 second option test running; Turbo core is turned off btw, runs at stock 4.0ghz only, no boost to 4.2ghz. Everything stock including my vcore, mine seems to default 1.3xx volt in BIOS but over here as seen in HWmonitor & CPU-Z is 1.2xx volt. I think that's good news I suppose as some FX-8350 owners state their processor default stock vcore 1.4xx above, suspecting bad cpu.

Ya sorted out the water pump already smile.gif

Haha not aiming for 5ghz when I do start to OC this bugger, more like 4.6ghz to 4.8ghz, run 24/7.

Cores/Package peaks at 45*C and CPU socket temp peaking at 63*C ..should I be worried? with the 63* peak? (aircond is off now btw)

This appears to be the max temps under load I'm seeing after running prime95 for a bit.

core/package: 46*C
cpu/socket : 63*C

other than Prime95, what else can use? OCCT?

prime95 issue earlier settled, should have thought of it even earlier smile.gif the psu was insufficient! swapped in a 620w, voila

prime95 is actually not a CPU stressing or stability testing software* -ibt and occt are... biggrin.gif

Wow. This thread has been idle for about 2 weeks! Where does everybody go?  hmm.gif

Put that aside, i want to ask something. What is the advantage of lower TDP? Does lower TDP means i can pump more volt on the chip or vice versa? Another thing, i would like some suggestion. I've been using phenom II 555 (manage to unlock to x4, but stuck at 3.6GHz only) for about 3 years, thinking to upgrade. What is the best bang for the buck for a new amd chip + mobo for gaming reason?

Hopefully can get an answer here. Wake up people! lol

I'll suggest the FX8320 paired with an ASRock 990FX Extreme3. IMO best value mobo with 990FX chipset. At least go with the highest end AM3+ chipset, not 970.

mainly will use for gaming + entertainment (connect to a tv and watch movies). will do some oc, just for fun.
Should i wait for the next gen amd proc (4350 or 6350) or just go for FX8320? i think my phenom2 555 will bottleneck my gc (7870xt). thats why i want to upgrade the proc.

Do you have plans to crossfire/SLI in the future? If no, then yes just get a 970 chipset AM3+ board will do and save some cash in the process. 7870XT crossfired does quite well, and affordable enough for you to consider getting another in the near or mid future. Really depends on the games you play and at what resolution/quality you want to play them at. If it was me, I'd go with 990FX board, and the ASRock one is as affordable as they come, at approximate RM 380 price and decent quality too. Don't skimp out when buying a mobo is the lesson I've learnt, get something with some quality.

Also a 990FX board would be best suited to support next FX series (Steamroller) compared to a 970. So there.

but i already have the 8350, and seidon 120, maybe want to change the RAM and MOBO only, any sugestion ?

I'd recommend the Asrock 990FX Extreme3 motherboard, and probably get some decent G.Skill RipjawsX 1866 or 2133 ram kit?

Hello guys,

Since AMD's roadmaps showed there won't be SR FX processors for the year 2014, I'm just going to jump onto an AM3+ platform to replace my PC I smoked a few weeks ago.

For now, I'm likely going with an FX-8320 and an Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0. But I'm not sure of what RAMs with particular chips (Elpida, Hynix, Micron) to get for OCing... anyone able to advise? Can't really afford premium RAM so if anyone has a good lead on relabelled chips on value RAMs it would be real nice. smile.gif

bro, how bout consider the Asrock 990FX Extreme3 instead. At least it's a 990FX chipset. That Asus you mentioned is a 990X. There are differences, mainly with the PCIE speed when SLI-ing. It's cheaper than the Asus 990X board as well.
