I just went for a interview in Singapore small audit firm.

He gave me an offer SGD2.5k. However he said, he will apply working permit/Visa (cant remember visa or permit) for me. However, it might not be approved. Since government just implement a new law effective 1st July 2011 to prevent surplus foreign worker to come in.
He added, the problem rose because I have only advanced diploma rather than a degree.
He may apply for me if failure later, but will adjust the salary to 2.8k. Extra 300 as the bonus in advance.

I just wonder whether what he said is truth. Advance diploma restricted to get a job in sg nowadays?
Why we can appeal if we rise to 2.8k? Due to minimum wages regulation?

the link of the new law implement sad.gif

Can I ask them to apply S pass for me rather than an EP?

Will they reluctant because S pass got its quota?
*
i think they will give you S-pass automatic if u cannot get the EP, is a option in the form, someting like, will you consider S pass ...

http://www.mom.gov.sg/foreign-manpower/pas...es/default.aspx

go for EP first, u might get lucky

Are you in the marine industry?

I was but im now attached to a rig drilling contractor, much more lucrative both pay and experience wise. Instead of being the subi working for the main contractor, i am the main contractor and i dont need to listen to the BS most shipyards used to give me. Especially singaporean yards.

me a marine industry observer notworthy.gif

QUOTE(I-Kurosaki @ Jul 12 2011, 11:00 PM)
hello, to all bros working in sg. This kind of questions pop in every now and then, but I will love to have ur opinions guys. Just recently, I was offered a job with a basic of $6k. Further details like benefits yet to be determined/discussed. Working location is in Jurong West.

my question is:
1) any decent place recommended for rent with respect to the working location? what are the rentals are we looking?
2) looking forward to drive to work. Is that feasible or I should just stick to MRT/buses?

some infos of my background:
1) just married, probably expecting our first child next year. this will be my biggest headache. Not entirely sure if my wife tag along or she should just stay where she is. Thought of flying back to KL every fortnight. If she were to follow, is $6k enough for both of us? Am i looking at bigger area of rented rooms/unit? How much will they be?
2) 5 yrs exp, current work involves structural designs in oil, gas & petrochemical industries. Is $6k sufficient? I have no idea what are the market salary atm in sg. Offered job demands offshore line of work (based in office).
*
bro every fortnight will not make it myself been in your shoe , fly everyweek friday nite and coming back every monday morning, first flight, wake up around 4 plus drive to lcct
my other collegue a lady been doing this for 3 years until now, u will see the same batch of people flying first flight from kl to singapore every monday mornign shakehead.gif

Added on July 12, 2011, 11:21 pm6 k is tight bro, when your wife is pregnant, singapore friendly transport still not able to accommodate, u need cab or driving, and for driving u need to convert license , waiting time for exam is now at around 2 month

You interested in this field? I wouldnt recommend due to personal experience working with the gen y workforce, their rather undisciplined and prefer to work in an air-conditioned environment. I knew a few malaysians and singaporean who worked with me in my previous job and i wouldnt and couldnt get to know them well since they kept on leaving the company after a month or 2 of working in either the shipyard or chemical plant.
*
thanks for the advice, reason i interested is because, my forte is marine underwriting not because i want to join blush.gif old aldi, i been in my own industry for 14 years, cry.gif leg to deep already
i observe the marine industries closely for chui sui (academic) whistling.gif purposes , shipyard, builder, repairer, oil rig ,shipbroker, cargo, port, marine surveyor and etc. notworthy.gif
