I don't see too many of the solid surface specifications but I can tell you the criteria people used to consider solid surfaces: look, color, stain resistance, scratch resistance, resistance to knock and versatility. Look refers to the type of materials used. Some such as quartz stone has look of natural stone. Likewise, some products have many color choices especially synthetic surfaces. Versatility refers to ability to use it in a lot of applications. Eg. Kitchen, bathroom. Obviously the one that look the best is the one that is in one piece with no joint. Most of the solid surfaces you can do so vs natural stone such as granite.

If you don't mind seeing the joints, some people are using 2x2 tiles as counter top. You can even get quartz stone tiles nowadays.
