Anyone here read the Eragon series (books)

I read somewhere recently, that the Inheritance Cycle, should have been adapted as a TV Series rather than movies...

I have read the books and I kinda agree...

Opinions?

Seventh Son (2014)

Why oh why oh why-o....

Why are movies like this made?!!!

If they had USD 95,000,000 to throw down the drain, throw it my way!!! laugh.gif

Why is wrong with this movie??

Let me count the ways

1) Jeff Bridges is a pretty good actor. Why is he "channeling" Sean Connery here (accent). Terrible, just TERRIBLE!! After R.I.P. and now this?? Shame on you Jeff, SHAME ON YOU!!!

2) Julianne Moore (Dragon/Witch Queen)... Really??!? Seriously????

3) Kit Harington.... He did not even GET the chance to show his abs!!! (tongue.gif Yes, ladies, I am saying this on your behalf)

4) Ben Barnes (Tom Ward) grew up as a farmer (pig feeder) but after been "procured" by Jeff Bridges (Master Gregory) he is able to easily read ancient text and scroll.... Which farmer in ancient time did THAT!!!!!

5) I know I am cheesy... But this movie TAKES the CAKE!! Talk about cheesy dialog...

And many MANY more...

Hollywood, in the future, if you have 95 million to pour down the drain, call me, okay??

My Two Sen.

P.S. This movie really makes me believe that fantasy movie (Magic and Dragon based) is dead after the last hobbit... Rest In Peace Fantasy Movies...

Well, color me yellow and call me intrigued!!

I was in the cinema today and guess what.

Fantasy movies are not died!!

I saw several movies which had intrigued me and after returning home, I google-fu'ed and guess what I found?

A whole list of Fantasy movies, all showing in 2016!! (Based on my definition, namely, involving "magic")

My List is as follows:

The Huntsman: Winter’s War (April 22)
Alice Through the Looking Glass (May 27)
Warcraft (June 10)
The BFG (July 1)
Pete’s Dragon (August 12)
A Monster Calls (October 14)
Doctor Strange (November 4)
Trolls (November 4)
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (18)

Managed to catch the trailer for The Huntsman: Winter’s War (April 22) & Warcraft (June 10).

Higher chance of me watching the later rather than the prior...

Still good to know the genre is alive and well.

What about you?

Are you a fan of Fantasy movies?

Come share your thoughts!!

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010)

Watched the above back to back and have to add, from a story telling point of view, the first is still the best among-st the three.

And maybe, it is the only one with James McAvoy... (Well, he was is the really bad Victor Frankenstein (2015)...)

Also director Andrew Adamson attention to detail in the first one really made it stand out!

Note that the above was at the height of Harry Potter movies and Disney/Fox wanted to cash into the market.

Unfortunately, with each movie, the receipts grew less...

Which means... the sequels took longer and longer to get made.

The fourth movie was supposed to be available by 2013, and as of now (fortunately/unfortunately) Walden Media had lost the movie right to the material and that is now procured by Mark Gordon Company and it is not clear if Disney/Fox would be the distributor...

The Fourth movie, titled Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, is supposedly in the scripting stage, which means Will Poulter will not be reprising his role, Eustace Scrubb. (The issue with working with children is.... they grow up).

Mark Gordon Company had kinda stated that the fourth movie, although a continuation from the previous movies, is kinda a soft relaunch. Meaning, none of the original children are in it (with the exception of Eustace).

It is my believe the reason this series had not caught the hearts of the audience is because there isn't one person in the development team that truly truly know the material (Harry Potter had J. K. Rowling and LOTR and The Hobbit had Fran Walsh both who truly truly knew the material and was involved in the scripting and film making process)

I do hope the series gets things together and is completed in movie form.

I have read all the book (when I was a wee lad) and I have to say the last book (which is actually a prequel) tied all the stories up so beautifully and I was flabbergasted!! I still am.

Would be interesting if they can replicate that in the movie (though I doubt it. The books are very... narrative, so are LOTR and The Hobbit but Fran did am amazing job with the script, because she knew the material like the back of her hand!!)

Well, here's hoping!!

Pete's Dragon (2016)

Disney of FLUSH with money this year!!

And it looks like they will make even more.

Do not forget they still have Dr. Strange (2016) later this year so... Disney is FLUSH with money this year.

This as the above had suggested is a remake.

And it really bares little semblance of the original.

More "based in reality" compared to the original and with Bryce Dallas Howard, Robert Redford and Oakes Fegley (where does Disney find these talented little tykes), it sells!!!

A little bit of fantasy and a little bit of human drama, this little gem works.

If you want something that you can bring your little ones to, look no further.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)

I was intrigued by the trailer.

And finally the movie is here.

Chris Pine as Edgin Darvis is actually good.

I was not sure about Michelle Rodriguez as Holga Kilgore, a barbarian!! She delivered. sweat.gif

I think that villians are best played by European. The really know how to bring the mean. I really like Hugh Grant as Forge Fitzwilliam and more recently the very face punchable Bill Skarsgård as Marquis (John Wick 4)

This was filmed in Iceland and it is truly spectacular!

I have several issues..

Apart from the above I found myself enjoying this.

I enjoyed this more than Shazam 2 and Black Adam.
