Guys, want to get a lenovo thinkpad p53 and t590. im torn between these 2, help pls... want a cooler and reliable laptop so that it can last longer but not sure whether P53 justify the cost or not. on the other hand T590 seem like a good choice but the screen has to choose either the most basic one or the most premium one...

P53 has bad cooling, even with more powerful hardware it couldn't perform well. Do you really powerful hardware though.

T495 v E495 v X395...
T495: better built quality/design tested with multiple extreme conditions, half the memory channel is soldered on 8GB, Pro type Ryzen CPU, larger battery<< the extra money you pay is mainly for the functional design advantage...

X395: All soldered on RAM, light weight design with more premium case materials.... non-Pro processors...

If computational performance per cost is your major preference/piority: E595

Many thanks indeed for your input. Sounds like the T495 is the all rounder in this contest perhaps.

I didn't realise that the E595 had a num pad as well which I do not want. So that's out of the question.

I bought myself an old X220 with the dock. Will use daily for mostly office work and DOS gaming. Found plenty of GOG games online.

Guys, is it worth to hunt for a T480 with i7-8550U, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD, MX150, or go for a T490 with i7-8565U, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD, MX250? It's much harder to find the former, and I'm not sure if paying more for the version of the T490 with i7-10510U is worth it.

Okay, I don't know about other cities in Bolehland, but Lenovo Premier Support in JB area is a disgrace.

My X390 was bitten by the recent Thunderbolt issue - the USB-C/Thunderbolt port which is part of that Lenovo docking slot stopped working. Called Premier Support on Friday. Confirm motherboard swap. Made an appointment for the following Tuesday 11AM. Tech only came at 4PM. I wasted half a day waiting for him.

Worse yet, the tech couldn't speak English. He didn't know left from right about the laptop internals either. Half the time I had to tell him what was what. Might as well hand me the motherboard and screwdriver for me to do it myself.

He also was a complete failure at applying thermal paste; didn't even clean the old residue properly and the brand he used to re-paste was some cheapo type. Next week when free I'm going to go buy some gamer brand thermal paste and repaste it myself. Right now my idle CPU temps are around 3-4 degrees higher than before the mobo swap.

He also didn't have a clue about the serial number reflashing process after the swap. Kept getting errors because he couldn't read basic English and couldn't even read the difference between product serial number and motherboard serial number. I swapped places with him in did the flashing myself. He was like "you kerja IT kah?" WTF, even a monkey could do that. Don't need IT qualification for something so simple. He also had no idea of the BIOS settings (new motherboards have many settings turned off by default) and I had to manually re-enable them in front of him. He probably learned more from me that day compared to his whole tech support career.

It was hilarious when the system booted into my Linux desktop and he had the most blur-sotong look on his face. He also didn't bother wiping down anything. His oily fingerprints were all over my laptop after he left and I had to wipe the whole thing down properly myself.

What a fucking joke! Luckily I only paid $1 extra for 3y Premier add-on during promotion time. No way I would have paid full price. The quality of this so called "Premier" service makes me want to vomit blood.

As they say in Mad Max Fury Road: MEDIOCRE!!

So true, even the same chip but in different hardware can perform 30% better.

Shows you whether you turn Caps Lock or not, mute mic, etc

You can test this by checking before and after killing the process

AMD 4000 series... doubles up the multi-core processing power...which consuming equal to less power, mainly due to the TSMC's 7nm efficiency vs intel's 14nm (or 10nm)....

The AMD 3000 series is slightly below in performances to the intel 8000 series (coffee-lake): an R5 is slightly below an i5...an R7 below an i7...

The soon to be release new AMD processors will hold the performance crown for this year to the next year (at least, until intel has a revamped CPU architecture)....
