Anyone notice the heat? Is quite uncomfortable to put on lap gets quite hot down there for T480s just from browsing. Even after I undervolt it

I install coretemp to monitor the cpu temp, it goes 45-50c when browsing but my thicc thigh get uncomfortable of the hot

user posted image

Heat is okay with T450 probably cause is using linux and the body thicker where T480s thinner can feel the heat directly under it (with fan blowing to direct to your lap lol)

Just got my eGPU - RTX 2070

Installing with Lenovo was a pain in the butt. TB3 is tricky and to get it to play nice with the 1050Ti was a bit of challenge. Had to uninstall Lenovo issued driver and install directly from nVidia

is it normal for X1E cpu to always run at turbo boost speed..(almost 4GHz) 24 hours
even just idle also running at turbo boost speed...
is it bad for temperature to reach 100 degree?

Looks like a mini desktop. At that point, other than the seamless integration with your current workstation (the laptop), I do not see the appeal of an eGPU.

I will stick with my desktop for the time being, for gaming if any (not that much gaming). Plus the desktop is more easily upgradable. Although I checked benchmarks (CPUz benchmark) and found that my i5-8250u is more powerful than my Xeon 1270 v3. Both have 4 cores and HT (8 threads) and the i5 is faster despite having only 15W TDP

Using windows? are you using "full performance" as your power plan. Can you choose "balanced" or "power saver" and report back?

I checked on CPUz and it can track the frequency "live", and I can see the multiplier reduced when the CPU is "idle" when on plans other than "full performance"

Give it a shot

Lazada , or you can pick up one used at acarousell - this tiny one costs RM 3000. Now question is , well is it worth it - well you get 4USB 3.1 ports + fast charger also. RTX 2070 also costs like RM 2500 like that

The beauty part of eGPU is it acts like a dock , you just need one cable to plug it in to charge the laptop + get powerful GPU

finally the temperature going down...
follow ZM Fong guide to undervolt, no more throttling (seldom 1~3 throttle).
but the temperature down to 50~60 idle (most 50~55)
also repaste as why i repaste first time, the paste put too little,
the paste only cover half of cpu....
but if i change power setting to performance, the thermal throttle will more frequent...

Wow, the cost of egpu and the GPU cost almost the same as my X1 Carbon sad.gif

On 2nd note, for travelling do you take the original charger or use alternative power supply such as Powerbank OR USB-C Wall Charger such as Aukey or UGREEN ?

Looking to add some accessories while waiting for my X1 to arrive smile.gif

Thanks

eGPU comes with the GPU - it's together , else it would have been expensive. You can pick used one for RM 1600 or so. You'll get power of eGPU + power from the quad core

For me , I have to take original charger , I can't charge X1 Extreme with USB-C unless it is 85W or 100W even that it's slow charging. FOR X1C , you can easily charge it with 45W charger
