If you're OK with the config and don't need to customize, I'd say go for it.
It comes with 512GB SSD too, instead of the usual 256GB

Yup going back to school and need a laptop for course work and excel mostly. This would be perfect for it. 512 GB bonus too!

Hi Everyone,

Been a long time MBP user and its about time to upgrade. Since apple having issues with their keyboard and price that doesn't make sense, I'm opting for Thinkpad. I was looking at E490/E480 but since they got the cooling/heating issues, I would want to opt for higher spec like T490 which comes with Mil-Grade.

Since T490 is still new, therefore price is on the high side. Can you suggest based on the spec below on where I can reduce it. I would prefer to keep the GPU in but you can only opt for the MX250 if you go for the i7, unlike T480 which can do i5 + MX 150.

I don't mind to reduce the SSD/RAM sizes since its upgradable later on right? Most probably can get education discount 12%. Not sure if you guys have any other hacks to get more discount. Budget is 4k but I can try to push 500 more if its new model and futureproof.

*Usage: Email, Words, Excel, CAD viewing, Youtube/Netflix, Casual Gaming (Cities Skylines)

Thanks guys.

@prasys, @ZM Fong, thanks guys for helping me out at Notebook Recommendation.

I think T490 only got 1 sodimm slot. Another ram is soldered unlike T480 got 2 socketed ram slot.
If you think you want upgrade to 32gb later, go for 16 gb.

Yes, they have 1 extra slot for sodimm but i left it empty. The above is already soldered i think. I dont think i need up to 32gb though.

Get T480 , it's because it lasts longer and you can upgrade the RAM , external battery and a lot vs T490. MX150 is same as MX250 , except slightly improved clock speed

Any coupons that you guys know of for the X1C (6th)? I was a little late (thought too much) and the 72FLASH coupon is gone.

What about student coupons, if my brother were to buy it, will he get discounts? What the max known discount for a student?

edit: the non-configurable CX1 6th has a non-backlit keyboard. It is quite important for me as I use the laptop in the dark sometimes. How easy is it to upgrade? Do I need to upgrade the whole KB or just add a few parts?

Actually the chat agent yesterday offered me 15% but the code is only good for 10 minutes and he would disable it. I took too much time "thinking", i told him to give me the code when i am ready. And now the chat agent service is offline due to the weekend

Will wait till monday I guess

I'm currently using a X1 Carbon in office, got it in last year's July. Everything is perfect (for me) with this laptop, as I was provided with HP Elitebook and Dell XPS in the past, I think X1C just nails it. Its built and also performance are top notch.

However, something is bugging me though. I see some little spots like water spots on the laptop and I have to use wet tissue to wipe them off. Fortunately, they can be wiped off but after a while, they will come back. My colleague who's using the same model as mine doesn't have such issue with her unit. It's quite annoying for me because they are obvious at certain angles. Is it due to the air? Too humid? Maybe not, I'm sitting right under the aircond and it blows straight to me. Should be too dry right? So any clue? Or lemon unit and plain unlucky for me? I can snap photos to show but that has to be tomorrow as I don't have it now because lazy to bring back the laptop. tongue.gif

Got SSD ? in damn good condition ? taken care of it - can fetch damn good prices

1. This one i am not too sure
2. X240 i5, 8gb, 6 hour battery life - RM 1.5k - if got SSD can nicely whack and if it's in good condition
3. X220 - maybe about RM 800

Personally I would put up in carousell also and in LYN garage sales.. Carousell seems to get more attention - especially if it's in damn good condition for a good price

Yay ! good job pulling the trigger

why hide the part no lol..its all generic part no smile.gif

It's gonna to take sometime maybe 1 month.
I also ordered a E585 on Saturday, still no sign on shipping....
Order customized thinkpad you have to be patient and the box is very normal with minimal accessories.

1. Yeah, got SSD. Original SD 250GB
2. yeah, 160 gb ssd
3. Added SSD, 120gb.

I dont mind giving discounts, especially to students (since I am a rich professional now laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif ). Will put them up on caro and

Didn't know the part numbers are generic. I never bought thinkpads first hand, all 6 (I have/had t420, t430, another x220) thinkpads have been 2nd hand
