Hey all,

I just finished my PhD. I have a question regarding application for PostDoc researcher in local university. Can anyone explain to me the procedure to apply for the position? Should I e-mail my potential supervisors?

Thanks

My field is science. I don't think i want to apply for lectureship right now because I plan to work abroad after finishing my postdoc. Isn't it hard to get lectureship? I tried to apply from my previous university but the administration said it would take 6 months for application process.

Not sure how Malaysia lectureship application procedure is. But if you plan to work in a prestigious university overseas, postdoc is almost a must. Also depending on your field, some postdocs may last for 10 years, due to a very limited lecturing positions.

i think Mr.dupe may be right. If you aim to work abroad and posdoc is a requirement, then you may skip the local lectureship opportunity.

Since my field is social science, I think I couldn't advise you further, except the fact that i worked in higher education before and saw some KPIs set across the faculties.

I believe postdoc will help you to garner more publications under your name. The trend in the university setting now is more to research output, and you should be able to secure a good position based on that even if you have zero teaching experience.

Also, I notice more adjunct positions at the higher education, especially abroad. So if you're offered a permanent position, I think that is golden.

All the best and report your result here to share your joy with us ok? =)

Hi all,

I got an interview for lecturer in private university. Is anyone a lecturer here in private university? I don't have teaching experience and I just finished my PhD. What is the range of salary for someone with my qualification?
How much will I earn per month?

A local private or a foreign branch university?

As a starter, you may expect between RM5k to RM7k for a local private. It's best that you ask for the higher end to let them scale down. You ask the lower end, they will give you the lower end for sure. Please don't spoil the market by asking too low. tongue.gif

A foreign branch can pay you higher. So, you should be asking for more. RM7k and perhaps more.

Be a good girl. Just be honest and say you have nothing, but is willing to learn. Show them your publication list.

If you have good publication, can ask for above 6k. If not, 6k is the market rate.
