Our petrol is so cheap? What are u comparing against? Our fuel is AMONG THE MOST EXPENSIVE IN THE WORLD if u compare dollar to dollar. We export our good quality fuel while we use the crap quality locally polluting our environment and endangering our lives more.

In Germany for instance, i was shocked to see diesel costing about E$1.40 while petrol (Euro 5) costs about E$1.60. If ure living there and earning in euros, thats quite cheap.

This statement is definitely wrong. smile.gif

Dollar to dollar wise, fuel here is dirt cheap.
Dollar to dollar comparison, mean you need to convert into the same currency to compare.

Rm1.90 mean about Euro 0.50, you cannot possible to get Euro 0.50 for every litres in developed countries.

If want to say it is expensive,
then correct term is purchasing power aka fuel price vs income.
The price paid for petrol vs income.

Fuel is cheap in Malaysia because it's being subsidized.

I read our crude oil is indeed of higher quality, something called Light Sweet Crude that has lower sulfur and exported to fetch higher price. And we import lower grade. That's one of the reason why our diesel has lower Euro grade and high tech diesel European engine like those you find in BMW etc can't be used in Malaysia.
*
Disregard our crude oil is higher quality or not.
The petrol we pumped is the same with overseas one.

The crude oil quality aka less sulphur content and low in viscosity is concern for refiners only. Aka refiner take more effort to extract or refine the crude oil, eventually more cost to the refiner, that's why it is cheaper.

Those better quality crude oil, market refer it as sweet crude, which is easier to be refined, and able to produce more petrol than heavy oil or better yield.

But final product, aka petrol and diesel is still the same which depended on refiner spec, or specifically the market demand or standard of the particular place.

Isnt a Dollar to dollar refering to not doing a currency conversion? U earn in Euro, u spend in Euro. U earn in ringgit, u spend in ringgit. And take the tourist conversion factor out of the equation?
*
Dollar to dollar <-- means you use the same dollar to compare, not one earn RM, one earn USD to compare.

We should use the term of purchasing power, or goods price vs income ratio.

Are u sure the petrol we pump here in Malaysia is the same fuel they use in many developed nations in Europe?
*
It is based on the spec and standard set at respective location.
It may not the same due to local standard or specification set.

What I mentioned is that the final product from the refiner is petrol.

Petrol = petrol, if both are same Ron and additive used, whether it come from sweet or soul crude, they are the same, if spec and additive is the same.

It is like murky water vs a clean water, both go to the water treatment plant, the mulky water is more difficult to do the filtration, but end of process it is still a clean water and drinkable water for both.
If both water spec and ingredient is the same, both are the same. It won't be the source which is clean water one is more "quality".
Get what I mean. smile.gif

Yes so its clear that the petrol used in Europe is NOT the same as used here in Malaysia right?
*
I have no data or info on petrol used in Europe.

My previous post just to highlight that just because Malaysia export sweet crude or so called high quality crude, it doesn't mean petrol used here is inferior, both are unrelated.

well i guess we'll all be using the cruise control more often once the AES system is operational.

Personally, I don't like cruise control, unless it is a total blank/no traffic highway.
Otherwise, in an uneven road, water, holes etc.
the car may try to accelerate to the pre-set speed if hitting those obstacle, quite dangerous for my liking.
