CKD or made in ASEAN countries doesn't make a difference tax wise, I thought?
In USA the Camry is modern and comes with almost everything that you'd get from a Passat here. Even more airbags than that. And it's cheap. And trouble free. So yea, obviously a good deal. Here it sells cause there are more SC, the resale value is better (could change, I'll be LMAO then), and of course the brand. Toyota makes competitive cars in markets where they have to. Here they don't.
Btw., the Avensis isn't doing terribly well in Germany (should be so so...), even though it is competitively spec'ed and priced. The Passat is the second (or third) best selling car though, only beaten by the Golf which like sells 2x as good, and selling just as good as the Polo.

Better buy the 2012 Camry ACR40. Someone has bought the 2.4 for less than RM160K.

2.4 now in bargain clear stock price mah. This is the last time u gonna see the 2.4 engine (which i think it is one of Toyota Engine tat have been place in a lot of nice car).... after that it is all estima 2.4 and harrier 2.4 in the market.
Basically those technology Toyota gives us here are already a batch slower than their Japan spec. U can imagine dual vvti already existed in Toyota Altezza since 1999 till 2 years ago there only start bringing in them to Malaysia Corrola. But then those 2 car used totally different engine lah. But the concept of the dual vvti has exist since then.

Heard that the brochure for the new Camry is out and its confirmed that the 2.0E and 2.0G will use the old engine and old 4 speed transmission. 2.5V with new engine and 6 speed transmission + 4 airbags.
Im interested to see how this Camry will sell in comparision with its predecessors and with all the competition around it.

Seems like the new 2.5V engine is not a V6 engine. Why they dun want to give V6 engine coz Mark X is V6 engine like LS250. Camry should be higher class than Mark X. Stupid Toyota!

QUOTE(BuFung @ Mar 28 2012, 01:02 PM) Only one variant of Altezza (6MT) with BEAMS 3SGE (dual VVT-i). The only VVTL-i (2ZZGE) is only available in Celica GTS and Corolla XRS (and Lotus Exige/S).

QUOTE(Gary @ Mar 30 2012, 04:00 PM) maybe facelift in 2 years time will change these.... Just like Altis - the new gen 10 is so horrible until it was not a new gen but only new grill/bumper & rear change. Then a facelift (gen 10.5) hold a new power plant and transmission. Now Camry follow suit. LOL.

I hope so....
Maybe they just have too many old engine and gear box in stock so they have to used such cheap strategy to clear off old stock.
