Hi all,
I have an old Satellite A60 and it can't boot after a bad flash.
I think my only choice now is to send it to the service centre.
Does anyone know roughly how much will it cost to reflash the bios?

Thanks. I gather you've done it before? Will they do it on the spot?

I've sent it to them, but no on the spot service. wink.gif
Maybe they're busy.

Anyway, the possible worst case scenario is I'd have to get the bios chip replaced right?

i guess the chance of u frying ur bios chip is almost zero ... just a flash and it would do ...

anyway ... most fo them r busy with the ongoing pc fair thingy ... so i guess u should be able to get it back by this week ...

Finally got an update from them. I had to call them, pfft. What a service.

The technician didn't know that my notebook cannot boot because of the bios. He said 'faulty motherboard'.
He was saying 'maybe you should consider getting a new one, motherboard replacement will cost RM1800'.
Can't blame him 100% coz the frontdesk lady who registered my case didn't put what I wrote in the form, which is 'cannot boot (bios damaged or corrupted)'. She simply put cannot boot. I even told her verbally that it's due to the failed bios flash.

I told the technician about getting my bios chip replaced or reflashed and all but he was like, 'from our side we cannot do anything, bad bios can damage your hardware' before eventually saying 'I'll check with my senior engineers, we'll see what we can do".

Poor, poor. Trying to take me as a noob.

Update..
Called the 'efficient' service centre regarding my notebook. (the technician said he will return my call, but he didn't)

I asked about getting the bios chip replaced, fucqing idiot said they don't do that even though I'm willing to pay for it. Heck I even told the guy if that's the case I'm gonna buy the bios chip myself and let them solder it.
(at first he was trying to say the whole motherboard spoiled already).
"No we don't do that.."

fuqking wank3r.

I'm gonna ask their hq about this.

that's what I thought too.
but they didn't even bother to call me, I had to call them all the time.
what I meant was the main hq. (japan)

I called the jb branch service centre, straightaway asked the guy about getting the bios chip replaced.
I explained what happened (didn't tell him I already sent my notebook to their hq though).

The guy is friendlier than the fellas in shah alam.
He said they don't have the equipment and expertise to solder the bios chip, and normally they would ask customers to replace the board.

He advised me to try other sources first to get the bios chip replaced.
well at least he did acknowledge that it is technically possible, unlike the shah alam guys who tried to convince me that it cannot be done before saying they don't do it.

man I'm really pissed off... cost of mobo replacement is RM1925. JB guy quote me RM18XX though.
