New toilet flushes weirdly, S-strap / manhole short?

Hi, I recently installed a sit toilet, from the previous squat toilet.

There is a problem when it flushes. The water collectively COMES UP near the brim of the toilet, then is quickly sucked down, creating a big gargling noise... The one upstairs flushes fine... everything stays at the bottom, it doesn't all flow up to the brim before it is sucked down...

I am just worried that this sort of behaviour is gross when big business is done. Imagine floaters coming up near the brim, nearly overflowing! Afraid some remnants will be around after everything is 'sucked down'... ohmy.gif

My contractor says it has to do with some S-Trap thing, that the manhole ( ? ) is too short... and it would be very hard to rectify this... have to dig into the bottom (meaning have to re-hack the tiles, etc).

I suppose there is no way to fix this... sad.gif just that I don't have a good explanation for this from the contractor. Anyone here experience the same ordeal, after converting a squat toilet system to a sitting one? Is there any way to change this easier/

The model is a Johnson Suisse Como single flush.

Thanks! sweat.gif

used that one before, in Citidel Hotel.
and, yeah, if the hole is too shallow, the water will be sort of traffic jam when channeling through the pipe, only 3 cure i can think for you:

1. not to do big on that
2. change a higher bowl
3. cover the bowl when flushing

PS: i saw some home toilet they build a "stage" and keep the bowl high...
maybe you can do it without hacking the tiles ..... by adding heights on the base of the bowl

My contractor told me the siphon system very sensitive need to align the pipe correctly.

Maybe is best to change to the standard washdown method.

COmo is washdown. FYI, a squatting pan comes with a S-Trap below of it, if u r going to convert from squat to a toilet bowl u will need to remove the S-Trap below ur squatting pan which some lousy plumbers are not aware of it.

This is the thing that u will need to remove.

A squatting pan does not have trap and they will need to add the thing above. A toilet W.C already comes with a trap. So, if u did not remove the existing 1, you will have two traps and it will b hard for the water to get flushed out.

Similarly, if u r getting a syphonic w.c, the discharge hole is smaller compared to a washdown w.c. As the hole is smaller, it is harder for water to flush out, therefore the water level will rise a little then only get flushed out. Your case, you have two traps, it is very hard to get flushed out, so the water will need to raise very high to create a higher pressure to push the water out.

Rule of thumb, buy from the experts ahhaha.

Thanks to Zheilwane's insightful explanation, I now understand what the problem is!

Called my contractor to explain that it was a mistake on his part. Thankfully he has agreed to rectify the problem and remove the "S" trap from the previous squat toilet system!!! sweat.gif

He is just afraid the hacking might damage the Como washdown toilet. I hope it will be intact lah... sweat.gif

BTW this is how it looks like:

Quite pleased with the Johnson Suisse lab sink and Premtex tap fittings too. The toilet is supposed to look like a sterile surgical environment... happy.gif

[PS - my contractor is actually a pretty good guy besides this problem...]

I didn't take a video of it before, as it was dark and the lamp fixtures is still empty. However, I'll try to visit the house soon to see if it's still in the same condition. I really hope they have hacked everything lah by then tongue.gif !!!

The Como on the 1st floor, in comparison, flushes beautifully...

Unnecessary headache.. wink.gif

ofcoz, Johnson Suisse is a good brand, the flushing system is good. Worth paying a little bit more to get Johnson rather than buying the cheap china w.c. Used to sell a lot China w.c, a lot of problems, gave up and now concentrate to sell johnson suisse only.
