I am trying to use my iPad (1st gen) for note-taking so I would like to get a stylus instead of using my fingers. Is there anyone with the experience would recommend a stylus for me? Thanks.

I've tried Alupen just now and it seems perfectly working with my iPad 2. The price for it is RM99.00 available at All IT Hypermart.

Are they good enough to do note-taking? 'Coz some of the stylus are suitable for painting (as they have bigger tips) but not that comfortable for writing.

Sigh. I was about to DIY a stylus but I can't get a conductive foam.

Thanks.

AluPen is great and the finishing makes it look really classy too. laugh.gif

Quite difficult to find those hot colors because apparently the supplier side are out of stocks (unless the shop still have ready stocks for it).

Same question ... isn't it difficult to write on the iPad with those pen since you will be resting your side of the palm on the iPad screen ... then the multi-touch will take effect and nothing will write on the screen ....

how do you overcome this problem ?

regardless what positive post here, it's pita to 'really' take note using ipad because 2 issues (apart trying to write on ipad is slow...).

multi touch - ur hand have to 'float' cause only only the tip is touch due to multitouch. wont work if need to write alot.

pen- the rubberish tip is like trying to write using eraser...

cheers..

Yes, this is one problem faced by many, so hopefully the app developer might come up with something that could help resolve the problem for those who rest their palms on the screen.

Finally, I got my cap ayam ipad/ipad2 stylus from Hong Kong, that only cost me USD$1.70 including shipping. (2 weeks waiting time)

It's a rubber tip stylus, the only cons is, you need to put a little pressure to get it to work.

other than that, it's a good stylus because of the cheap price smile.gif

I got a Kensington one from Machines in Pavilion KL. Works great and if the rubber nib has worn out it can be used as a pen using Parker refills. i think about RM90 for the stylus. but non the least great stuff.

or is it Epi Center. i forgot but its one of those "official" apple shops in Pavilion

Well u definitely wont get the same feeling as writing with a pen on a piece of paper because we were doing it for years and its not easy to shake that feeling and expected to be comfortable right away after replacing it with a stylus.

If i were to recommend, i would say Targus Stylus. RM69 i think from Machines.

Im using it now and its really good, for the money at least biggrin.gif

I have to agree that Targus Stylus is good and responsive, just bought one at Machine Midvalley just a moment ago. I don't use much actually, just for my 2 years old daughter playing her coloring apps..lol. I have a Pogo Stick actually and it's really sucks, have to press a lil on the screen to use and it scratch my Screen Protector.

guys, make sure to TEST the stylus on the spot before buying it

i just purchased a cheap stylus from LYN forum... 13 bucks include postage
But it sucks... need to apply lots of pressure to get it detected (dont even have screen protector on yet)

for mine, need to apply A LOT MORE pressure than how i would normally write using a pencil/pen... quite uncomfortable when need to use much

Ask seller allow u to remote into his/her iPad, ask seller write on screen with stylus, check out and decide which to buy.

Apply above technique with webcam - ipad, facetime to ipad or whatever u can think of.

Just bought a stylus brand Targus and i have to say tht i am not impress with the performance. I dont know whether its the stylus itself of my screen protector. I bought the screen protector n the stylus a few hours ago at machine bukit tinggi. I think the screen protector brand is Power support An, from Japan. It really good but when i get bk home, the stylus need to press a lil harder. Now im thinking of selling this One and get a Anodit jot brand type of stylus

Funny, the Targus Stylus works flawlessly with my SP which came with the Switcheasy Canvas(I assumed it's a cheap SP). The Targus stylus cost me rm69, you sure you bought the same model as per price?

Yup. I actually want to buy the capcase brand of screen protector but since the seller recommend the Power Support An, i just grab it. Cost me RM123 and the stylus RM69. I didnt test on the spot. Damn. And since i really want to use it as a note taking, its no use cause my writing suddenly become worst when using this stylus. Plus, need a little more pressure than what i saw ppl using this stylus on utube. cry.gif

Not sure it's your SP is the cause but indeed you don't have to press hard on it while using, just lightly touch on the screen and it will respond. You should try it on spot coz machine staff will open the box and let you test the stylus as what I did at Machine Mid Valley.

Well, I'm a backer for this Jot Pro project at Kickstarter.com . I don't think they have started distributing them to Stores worldwide. You are able to order one via amazon.com though. Paid 45USD for 2 units of this, excluding postage fee.

For those who have the Adonit Jot Pro, does the grip makes a lot of difference? Thinking of getting the regular or the Pro version. Magnet doesn't matter to me, grip might, and colours for pro is so much better laugh.gif Also, I read that the constant clicking noise due to the glass can get really annoying; what's your take?

I have the Jot Pro, cant really notice the grip difference. But I dont have the normal Jot to compare with, so dont take my word for it. I suppose just see what kind of pens you'd like to use. Ones with grip or not. Since it carries over. Glass tapping can get annoying at times. But its still bearable IMO.

Thanks. I just ordered the regular Jot. Hopefully the tapping doesn't turn out to be too bad in classroom usage.

About the Jot Pro, does the glass thing at the pen tip easily separate by some force?

From what I read it's actually pretty sturdy. Should not come off under any reasonable conditions. Although they do have some faulty batches - which they are very willing to replace.

They've got air and sea. I chose air, but my order is still processing. Was told that it should reach within 1 to 2 weeks. They're restocking on the Jot Pro as well, so give you choices. Though I think they just raised their price by like $0.90 laugh.gif

Also, they have the coupon code 10THANKYOU for October. 10% off order total.

Holding back my recommendation for The Stylus Company. Was intially told to expect a shipping time of 5-7 business days (to America), but now am told 7-10 days. Also told only to contact them for relevant procedures if it's not received by the 21st business day. Customer service isn't the most helpful out there.

Read good things about Adonit's own customer service though.

I have used Iclooly Stylus Smart, but i don't really like it. It is selling for RM70 at Mac City one utama. Now I got myself a Adonit Jot Classic and I quite like it.

Am planning to let go the Iclooly Stylus Smart, no box tho. Just use like 3 days. RM 40 should be ok .

Soon I will get the Wacom Bamboo Stylus, need to check whats the hype about it.

I'm using BAMBOO stylus, but I'm having problem with certain screen protectors. (http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2329452&st=0&p=51045513&#entry51045513)

I used Screenguard, and you have to apply some pressure before it actually detects. But when I tried on another ipad (also with SP on), it was slightly better. So I'm also looking for the right SP to use

Very fast response on the UPAD Lite apps, no need to press hard to write/draw... will get the UPAD paid version soon to support write to PDF..

Only drawback is that there is no clip on the stylus for me to clip on my shirt pocket and my iPad have a cover, so the magnetic function is useless for me...

I find some of the drawings apps have slow response...

Anyone tried the Jot Ready Apps like Clibe or HD Note Taker yet ??

Hey people don't get the Adonit jot.. I just used it for one month and the head became very loose and cannot write already.. Cause it become super not sensitive.. Furthermore it scratched my whole screen protector till very bad.. I used the rm 69 screen protector which claims to be military grade unscratchable.

Now I just changed a new sp which is the sgp ultra optics.. Gonna bring back the adonit jot to machines for warranty.. But doubt I'll be using it again.. Later scratch my sp and I will die..

Is the targus one very sensitive? Currently using my friend's ozaki and I feel it's not very sensitive..

P/s I use the stylus to write a lot of notes.. Everyday in class..

I am using PDF notes.. I just convert my PowerPoint slides into PDF on my pc and upload them to dropbox. Then. I can download them right away into the PDF notes with the integrated Dropbox.

Cost $9.99 for the ad-free version. But you can try the ad version which is free too

My adonit jot pro, at first it didn't work after much later, then I just added thermal paste between the disc and the ballhead. Problem solved and working good as ever.

Wacom Bamboo Stylus, I actually won that in a contest, and I just received it, its like a better version of my Alupen. Now I'm waiting for my XStylus Touch to arrive. Hope that's better.

Hmmm for writing notes I actually prefer the targus over the Adonit lol.. Adonit really is very noisy when taking notes and it really scratches the screen cause when you use your finger nail to touch the bottom there.. You can feel that it is jutting out and I think that's the thing that scratches the screen..

However the Wacom I think is more sensitive than targus since it is more sensitive the the alupen d.. So best should be Wacom..

But this one seriously looks good.. Most stylus is 8mm.. Wacom is 6mm.. But this is 4mm lol..

I don't think you can test the stylus before purchase.

Anyway, just got an Xstylus Touch. Pretty damn solid, weight-wise, its just slightly less smoother than the Bamboo.

Yes and No.

Hardware-wise, currently iPad doesnt have dedicated digitiser for capacitive pen to do so.

Software-wise, some apps are made to be stylus-friendly, mostly note-taking apps. And they won't mistake on registering your hands as input. That enhancement is often called "palm rejection". Check for reviews of which app is good on that.

I used Jot Classic like ball-pen, others stylus pen (big rubber head) cant compare with it, unless u spend few hundred to buy wacom products. The price around RM120 not expensive. Now ipad pad also became ipad note already. I have tried on samsung tab 10.1 1st version also good performance. Disadvantage beware about ur screen protector!

I didnt have ready stocks but you can Pre-Order from me, price around RM120 Adonit Jot Classic. 10 days can get it!

I have tried so many stylus on my ipad mini and none has the " feel" i was expecting... not sure is it because of my screen protector or it just need some get use to.

I have tried the well reviewed Alupen, Targus Stylus and both surprisingly doesnt work as sensitive as I expected. There is always a need to put extra pressure in order for the screen to detect. Does it meant to work this way for all stylus?

For finger.. as long as we gently touch the screen, it will detect already. Is very good for natural stroke.. as for the stylus I used so far.. it all needs extra pressure.. which make drawing stroke less natural.

I end up buying the Joy Monet, which i find a bit better (more sensitive) than the alupen and targus one. But still It isn't perfect...

I just need to know if the stylus on ipad will never be as sensitive as our fingers? And I should stop searching for the perfect stylus?

Totally agree. I use Samsung Note 2 and was expecting the stylus on my ipad mini to feel the same. Anyway, you will get used to it...just apply more presure.

Was using Targus stylus. Found it hard to write.

Changed to STM. Works perfectly .... as good as Samsung Note 2.
