Music player software and OS Layer(can be bypassed) gives digital signal.

Digital signal goes to DAC (Digital Analogue Converter) and converts it to Analogue signal.

Finally you amplify the analogue signal with an... Amplifier.

Internal DAC can be bypassed. USB DAC will bypass computer DAC.

Some AMP/DAC combos can be used purely as an amplifier only.

The T-Muso DAC has a built in amp, so if you use an amp with it....
