Girls,

I have noticed that Malaysian girls are very, very brand-conscious when it comes to bags... I understand that it is of good quality and I LOVE the smell of genuine leather bags wub.gif wub.gif

But, not everyone can afford so many designer bags and getting A-grade fakes are not the same.

When I go to countries like Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Aussie, UK n US, I noticed that A LOT of the girls there are fashionable & they don't really care about designer bags! They enjoy buying vintage bags from flea markets, bargain for cheap bags to go with their everyday outfit. In fact, when I was in Osaka, the local Japanese brands (which comes in a lot of shapes and designs) are even more expensive than the designer bags (older seasons) like COACH, CHANEL, GUCCI etc...

We always look upon Koreans and Japs on their fashion, but why we are still willing to spend so much on designer brands (esp Coach - which is way overpriced in Msia) with limited designs

If you go for dinners or formal functions, events with VVVVIPs, designer goods are alright, but for daily outfit... kinda boring if you keep taking the never full LV bag or the Coach monogram everywhere right?

I hope to see more fashionable Msian girls regardless of the brands that they wear..

Do let me know what you girls have in your mind.. thanks smile.gif

Moorish -> I think it depends on which mall..

I was looking at all the online sales in LYN.. The thread with designer goods always attract lots of ppl.. I even saw designer paperbags n boxes for sale yawn.gif wah! Fast selling oh!

Thx Amy, glad to know that you are not all brand-conscious.

I love to surf chictopia, popsugar n most of the members wear mid-range clothing (like zara, h&m, etc) or even brandless ones (like the cheap clothes a lot of LYN members selling now) with lots of matching bags.

Sure is nice to c more variety in Msians' taste too...

if you say midvalley pavillion bangsar, maybe branded more, but if we talk about majority, then I think non brand still win hands down.

I've just been back from osaka and yes, I actually took some time to look at the stuff the guys and girls there wear/carry.

Not a single LV bag. Maybe a few Chanels, but generally the "branded" stuff we Malaysians see everyday are pretty non-existent. The most important thing is, everyone had a different bag.

Perhaps to them, bags are a fashion accessory. Not here. Bags are status symbols here.

Furthermore the older seasons for designer handbags are at very cheap prices right...? No wonder so many ppl bought in bulk n sell in Msia...

I think it would be better if watches are the symbol for our status.. Price for handbags will depreciate over time..

Am thinking of getting nice looking cheap bags from flea market overseas and intro online first...

my GF like Radley, lucky for me its not too expensive.
its the hotest brand in UK now.
quality material and very well crafted.

the person behind it was an achitect so her design is well structured, functional and practical.

Most of the bags sold on lyn look cheap. It's a huge turn off for a girl's bag to look cheap. It doesn't have to be expensive, but it shouldn't look cheap.

My definition of cheap is that it looks like it was purchased at a very low price. How to tell?
1. Material.
2. Tacky designs that try to make it look more expensive than it really is. And fails miserably.
3. Generally bad workmanship.

But let's be honest, there is no bag under rm50 that will look like it costs 500. However, above a certain price point, there are items that look much more expensive than they really are.

I honestly dont really care about the brands
My priority when picking a bag off the shelf is:
(1) having all features that i prefer - multipocketed on the outside (yea, i'm an organized freak), right color combo
(2) price.must not burn a hole in my pocket.but i am no cheapskate when it comes to good fashion

hehe!

Huh? Branded bags never on my favourite list. The design and style is what i opt for. My daily use bags are inexpensive god-knows-what brand. Cheaper,no need to be sad when time to throw away. Eg 1000 for a branded bag,u'll use it and unwilling to throw when it looks old. But for me 1000 i can buy more than 10 bags AT LEAST. For me bags that are more than 50 many that are of satisfactory quality already. I do splurge from time to time, but i dont remember more than 300 for a handbag

I agree. There's no need to carry branded bag.
I don't really see the difference between branded and non-branded bag, except for the price and design!
But it is more important to buy a bag that you can use and throw readily.
If not, you will have alot of bags at home and some may spoilt if not used for a long period of time.

you know what they say about people who hate branded / designer's bags? they cant afford it, so to cover up, they say they hate it.. lol. i'm just saying la.. =)

i have a fair share of both branded and non branded bags. i personally feel brand comes 2nd, as to style. generally, designer's bag last longer.

as much as i dislike LV simply because there are so many people carrying it, their leather is of good quality leather. My bf's LV wallet is 5 years old and is still in good condition.

Both are ok smile.gif As long as the design is good, and can last more than 1 year at the very least.

Some people buy branded bags because they know that for that few hundred to few thousands that they spend, their bags will last for years and years (sometimes even decades) compared to maybe cheaper bags that do not last as long.

For me, quality is more important... As long as the quality is good at a reasonable price I will buy biggrin.gif

I know there are girls who only buy bags based on brand.
However, for the more price concious ones, they will look for nice looking handbags with affordable price.

Afterall, the brand is just a name, there's no need to spend too much in just a handbag.
Unless of course, you want to show off your status smile.gif
