3. In Aust, ACCA course is completely self study as far as i know
Apparently I've heard that CPA is only available for locals or PR in Aust. Not really sure though... but I reckon ACCA is more recignised in Malaysia isn't it?

Self studying for ACCA might not be as easy as you think. Take a look at the past year Q&A to see whether you are capable of providing similar answers without going for tuition.

I have no idea whether ACCA has more preference compared to CPA by accounting firms or not, but both provides entrance to be a member of MIA. IMO, as long as you get the job done, any qualification is the same.

Well, I've heard what u've said that CPA is easier...
However, CPA has a longer time frame tho(2 and a half years) plus need 2 years related working experience. Is it the same for ACCA?

ACCA can be completed in a years time, assuming you obtain maximum exemption and you do not fail any papers and 3 years of practical experience to obtain membership. But since it is supposed to be harder than CPA, you actually need to put in effort in actually study while working (assuming you don't plan to study full time).

I've heard many cases where people have easily passed CPA exams with just 2-3 days of last minute studying and that is without going for classes or spending time actually reading the notes given. So this might be an important factor for you as well.

ACCA exam is a killer exam. It requires lots of hard work, sacrifice & commitment. Many people gave up half way through.

You can pass the CPA exam easily with just a total of 1 hour of study for each paper or no need to study at all. I have done it before, all MCQs & you can spot the answer easily from the options A, B, C or D. Lets say for example in the CPA Tax paper, the question can ask 'What's the company tax rate? A. 20% B.30% C.40% D.50%' Obviouly the answer is B.
Another example in CPA Auditing paper, the question can ask 'Which of the following would trigger a bad debt situation from a debtor? A. Debtors pay within the credit period B. Debtors pay by instalments C. Debtors still owing for more than a year with no guarantee D. Third party pays on behalf of debtor'. The answer is C.

Easy huh ! That's why CPA is always a joke in Aust employment market.

If you want to remain in Aust, take up a master or ICAA. If you want to come back to Msia, then CPA....boleh lah as long as it's under MIA recognition.

Just a word of advise from my mentor a very long time ago.. he was a Senior Banker that had studied ACCA... don't look at the passing mark of 1% and think it is impossible.. BE THAT 1% who passed.. fyi, ACCA I firmly believe there is no QUOTA.. as long as you are well prepared in Foundation level and not take easy way out, the higher levels it will be easier. Good command of English is a pre-requisite. Calculations alone can only take you that far, at the final papers it is the thread of your justification that counts. Even if you do not have time to finish the computation, as long as you can explain the methodology, there are some marks that can be awarded for methodology..

R u serious about the sample of the Q? that's way too easy, looks like a pre-u or a degree standard to me.

-----------------------------------------

on another note, CPA is an open-booked examination. i'm uncertain if it is applicable to ALL the subjects, or only selective subjects. you could do some tagging or highlight all over your notes. it doesnt matter.

for ACCA examination, although u know all your principles, u still have to practise questions in order to pass!!~ read me...pass. not score!~~ it all depends on how good ur explanations to your answer within the time constraints.

important thing is study smart, not study hard. (which i still fail to do so doh.gif )

for dec 2011 exam or next year study?
if it's for dec 2011, then it's too hard to get it in this short time since kasturi is out of stock.
if u order online also need some time to get the parcel, unless u can find second hand books now and cash on delivery.

it's so late now, even if you got text book also no use. you need revision kit or past year questions to help you pass. notes will be easier for you to remember

memorise those audit assertions, make sure you apply them in your answers. if it asks bout internal controls, you must think of SPAMSOAP. must know what audit procedures to conduct when auditing different type of items in FS

good command of english is an advantage, relate your points to the scenarios. bullshitting is more useful when you go for P3
