he butthurt your setup sound better than his but lack a lil bit bass than his... =D

but seriously... 7" drivers doesnt mean anything about big bass...
1. speaker built, take the cheap visaton for example... they are not going to produce bass as much as a 18W or my RM60 bmboschmann coaxials... =D i know because i sell my ride time i buy from "kyjelly" oops.gif (he say cheap till laosai mah) one cheap cheap set... my RM60 bmboschmann coaxial better bass reproduction...
2. speaker baffling, no rigid... of course no bass la... thats why got si-beh-siao rich dude used copper baffles before...
3. soundproofing, this one do no sui, or cincai do... also no bass no matter you scanspeak or not...
4. your amp underpower... no matter from alternator supply or the amp itself memang boh-9-lat... also in the end boh lat "tum-tum-tum" one mah....

Actually there are a few thoughts in my head....

Judge is still human, and ppl will have different preferences... What makes you think your 7" is definitely a winner? Feel like telling him, like that if I use Focal Utopia...then I sure champion dy la...?
Also when I was in Sg EMMA, I saw a few MP-Z series... but if I am not mistaken, only 1 was a winner.

Anyhow, what I want to say is: To get a good sound system, the equipments, installation and tuner make a hell lot of difference... Brand is just a start and a guidance.

Actually, I think the 7" installation got problem la...or else, his car would be shaking already with the bass.

P.S:This is competition level , If they don't do some basic soundproofing, is like wearing a Bersih 2.0 shirt but yet, dunno what is it... laugh.gif

i known one fella who spend close to 2k doing his doors. soundproof, autofoam, extra internal bracing.. etc etc... and when i audit, lets say thats the best midbass i heard in a while.. compact, solid, powerful sounding. so the question is are u willing to spend that kind of money to achieve it? wink.gif

Actually hor, this conversation was in my mind for a while... I would like to know, what you guys have to say.

Contestant A : "The judge damn "sui" (water)... I used 7" mid and he still complaint my bass is not strong enough".

I didn't get to see his car, but this was a comment I heard from the recent EMMA competition.

what say you?

if i tell u my rs pro 6.5inch (no soundproof, no steel ring) had better midbass than my scans 18W (alpine f1) with steel ring and some soundproof.... will u believe or not? 2003 midbass scores were higher than 2004 and 2005

amp also made a difference, before alpine f1 i used xetec, very dynamic & powerful amp

You might be interested in my car door too... not even 2 years old yet. But I didn't autofoam yet, no $$$.

Yes, I agree... most of the time it is up to the car build. But I must emphasize that competitors will do whatever they can to have the extra edge and become the eventual winner... That includes soundproofing the door.

This I would like to know more. Can anyone enlighten me on this.

Or can someone pls explain what is sound proofing as oppose to sound dampening? Cos i read somewhere that too much of these or either (dunno which one) would reduce the acoustic effect inside the car thus reducing the sound quality.

This one I'm not sure. I don't think I have overly soundproof my door, I only made it more rigid so that the mid bass can be harder and stronger.
...also, someone help me to cut a big hole for the speakers to give it more space. cry.gif

WTA.

I saw a few japanese car audio setup. Most of them have their components installed in a weird position. The tweeters are just next to the foot (Not next to the mids. But the foot pillars. Why do they installed it in such a way. is it a regulation?

Kick panel installations. suppose to give equal path length distances. (proper center staging with less TA). May introduce other probs like low stage or less detail. (if i remember correctly)

american do kick panel installation a lot, bcoz their cars are left hand drive, so they got no accelerator problem, plus their cars are HUGE compared to ours. for our small right hand drive vehicles, the accelerator pedal kacau a lot, not really good results

but a pillar installation were done in asia and europe first, now most americans also follow, not many kick panel installations anymore.

i guess that indirectly explains boston flagship ICE to be rather "coaxial" focused. or more accurately, the design etc cope with coaxial installations very well. from what i know at least, its pretty much the best coaxial solution i've ever seen. (not that i would bother about it though lol)
