hey guys.. regarding rooting. does root post any threat of malware, viral, backdoor or abusive activity to our device? coz its hacking, and we use tools developed by other hackers. afraid that other hackers will gain access to our device.

i all, i plan to root my gs2
juz a few noobie ques here:

1) my kernel version is xwkf1. after rooted can i flash to other stock kernel, as i was unable to find my kernel here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074930

2) is flashing back the stock kernel after root will wipe all ur fon data?

thanks
*
Rooting will not wipe all data ... but to be safe better flash wz any CF-root kernel then do a nandroid backup. BTW when flashing the CF-Root kernel it will root & install CWM on ur SGS2.

U can flash another stock kernel after the above step

External Battery

Specifically for Galaxy S II an external battery was created. I have heard about the product for some time, but there were different gossip about it. It was supposed to be a bigger battery with the special back cover or Samsung could have offered a battery in the case. The end product happened to be different. Look at pictures to make your own conclusions. In fact we get a back, which considerably increases the size of the phone. I would have preferred to have matte plastic at the back as the glossy one gets soiled far too quickly. Besides the phone and the accessory seem to have been created by different companies. A strict Galaxy S II and its shiny addition do not go well together. On the other hand the battery will not be handy on a daily basis. To connect the gadget you need to move aside the bottom part revealing the microUSB jack. In the box you will find an appropriate cable to charge from the PC. The access to all buttons is available and the speaker has an opening too. The smartphone fits well without any danger of falling out. Below is located a tiny light indicator. The accessory weighs 50 g, but its exact characteristics are still an unknown quantity. Its practical use is more important though. A fully charged accessory will boost the operation time of Samsung Galaxy S II. Moreover the case can also be used for carrying the handset.

leng zhai... how to install the batt mod? what custom rom you're using? coz i notice that your battery indicator has the percentage on it... which is what i've been finding for the past few days! sad.gif

thank you so much! smile.gif

that batt mod is for XXKF2 fw.
better flash the rom and there is a link in xda for the mod to work ... must flash via CWM

I dont have any fast batt drainage with the new fw ... but I have done some tweaking using Tegrak Overclock for GalaxyS II though

my Tegrak OC setting

When they made promo on 22nd June, they do have stock. Unfortunately, the demand far surpasses their supply.

The demand for SGS2 is crazy worldwide...i think samsung korea is having a hard time meeting world wide demands. The sales of SGS2 in korea far surpasses iphone 4 when launched. Sgs2 sold 1 million units in korea in just 1 month!

Very soon they might run out of super amoled plus screen n replace with lcd, like what happen to SGS n SGS LCD when they ran out of amoled screen....

So if u can get hold of a SGS2 now with super amoled plus, well done!

lucky for most of us ... we got the super amoled+ one thumbup.gif

sorry i think i still don't get it..

1) if i flash to stock kernel, it fixes the yellow triangle but i lost the CWM boot recovery menu.
2) if i flash to cf root kernel, i can have the CWM boot recovery menu back (but will have yellow triangle too).

is this correct ah?

if correct then i'll use option 2 lor... since the triangle doesn't bother me much anyway happy.gif

if u have flashed the CF-Root kernel u will have the CWM but have yellow triangle
Flashed back stock kernel u will loose the CWM option

I too choose the 2 option too brows.gif

Ok, for those of you who have trouble installing the Google Maps (for Navigation), i had issues too, but managed to do it through the following:

1. First, make sure your phone is rooted, then download the Google Maps-ownhere.apk (NOT the re-sign one), and transfer to your external SD card.
2. Using Titanium backup on your phone, wipe data and then uninstall both Google Maps and Street View.
3. Then using root explorer on your phone (i used Super Manager, which also has root functions), transfer the Google Maps-ownhere.apk file to your phone's system/app folder (make sure its set to R/W).
4. Then just reset the phone, and voila! Navigation is available!

There is probably an easier/shorter way, but this works for me. Hope it helps smile.gif
*
For me these r the steps

1. Root the phone
2. Install systemapp remover app
3. remove the maps.apk from system
4. install the hacked gmap
