still didnt see much K5 on the road.

btw, care to share where did you booked your K5? Is the SA good for recommendations?
*
Hi bro,

Not very sure how many cars in the 2nd batch. I actually booked the car early before the launch date (17 dec 2011).

My SA is very good as he really knows bout car. He is a car person. Hate going to some SA who knows cr*p about cars. Have been to atleast 10 showroom and finally found 1 who knows about the car. He is Kevin from Kia Glenmarie. Tell him Hazrill white K5 recomended.

Just received my 2012 white K5 today. Changed front, back, all 4 rims and steering wheel KIA emblem to the 'K'. Also changed the rear license plate light to white Led. Also ordered new plates with CF sticker. Will be receiving tommorow.

As for the drive it is absolutely wonderful drive so far. Handling wise, so far is great. Definately better than sonata. Need to get more milege to really evaluate.

Bro how much it takes you to change those? And where did you change them? Because the crap SA told me there's no 'K' emblem that fits optima yet and cannot change the one at the steering wheel, scare it will trigger the airbag and explode. WTF?
*
Yes, it is not available here yet. Bought it online from sharkracing. it is 7pcs set for USD70.
As for the steering wheel it is just stick on and it fits nicely and can't notice it.
Will provide pics later smile.gif

QUOTE(leds @ Mar 1 2012, 08:47 AM)

*
Will provide later smile.gif need to wash first. hahah

QUOTE(danscsa @ Mar 1 2012, 10:06 AM)
yeah be nice to share photos along with a detail review as there are not many malaysian reviews of the k5 that is really comprehensive
*
Will try bro. as for photos will provide later.

QUOTE(JuneSeptember @ Mar 1 2012, 10:29 AM)
I also feel like changing the license plate light to white led. Was it plug and play?
*
Yes it was plug and play. just remove the screw/clip on the inner mat on the boot and you will see the sockets already.

Filled up full tank and drove to penang today early in the morning at odo 500km. Once reach pg did my 1st service. Then just came back and odo is at 1280km without refuelling. So, its 780km and its shows on the screen distance to empty another 110km. Thats a very good fc. But all the cruise control at 110kmh.. Only once tried up to 170kph, it is very compose and solid. As for the handling body roll was very minimal. Tested at jelapang twisty road. Was really impressed with the fc.

As for the paddle shift, there were doubts a few pages earlier on how long does it stay in that gear before going back to D, i can confirm that it is not a fix time. The car decides. On some cases its like 3s on some cases as on the downhill if u drop the gear it does not go back to d until its flat again.

As for the hill assist, i forgot to test the duration. Will update soon.

And, still havent taken image of my car with the k emblem. Will yry doing it soon

That doesnt sound like any saleswoman i would want as my SA. Not the kind of customer service i would like.

But let me ask you, is she a bit plump? Cuz when i was there last week there was this lady explaining bout the Optima to an interested buyer. She actually told them 'the Optima suspension is the same as the Camry'. I butted in and said 'Not the same. The rear suspension on the Optima has got gas shock absorbers'.

Ive noticed this at all the Kia showrooms ive gone to. Not a single salesperson actually knows the car well enough. Makes me wonder about their mechanics though. Hence why i didnt target to get the Optima fast. Surely dont want my car to end up like a guinea pig during the periodic service.  biggrin.gif
*

Bro, that was my experience too, where all the SAs i met r full of bullshit n not technically sound. At last found 1 whom is technically sound n knows bout the car. Bought mine from him. He is Kevin from Kia Glenmarie (016-9969868). Tell him Hazrill recommended.

Managed to take some pics today. Sorry for the poor quality, taken from my iPhone.

Car: Kia Optima K5 2012
Color: White
Mod:
1) 'K' Emblem (Front, Rear, Steering Wheel, 4 Rims) Bought from Sharkracing.com
2) License Plate White LED
3) CF Sticker Plate with White Crystal Font
4) Tint: 3M Crystaline 70% Front, the rest 50% including sunroof and moon roof

I have ordered replacement bulbs for the HID with 6000K color temperature. Should receive it next week.

Another thing is that i have wrote a letter to NAZA to complaint about an item is not the same as advertised in the brochure or their website. Hopefully they will change it. Do you guys notice what am I saying. Look at the pics, its there sweat.gif

Bro, yes planned to change the rims at first but after looking from the US forum i feel that changing to 5 spoke rims with 18" doesnt look nice as the rims look small. So maybe when i use up this set of tyres then next round ill change to 19". Furthermore, after looking at it the stock rims looks good and beautiful when its spinning.

As for the hid bulb, im getting it because want to change to white color light. The stock ones are 4300k which is yellowish white.

Bro Landy, youre spot on. The rear lights are not the same as in brochure. It is call rear fog light. It is too bright n will be a nuisance the car following behind. I demanded naza to change it. Lets see how it goes.

Pps, i havent done yet. Will do Sierra Glow. Highly recommended by forummers. It cost RM700 for our K5

QUOTE(1GTR1 @ Mar 7 2012, 11:55 PM)
The rear fog lights are meant to turn on when there is a very heavy rain or foggy weather and that's why it needs to be bright so that the cars behind can see you under heavy rain, other than that I see nothing else is wrong with it... Hope my explanation helps you... Some people misuse it by turning it on when the weather is good, that's when it's annoying to the cars behind
*
Bro, yes I know its supposed to be used during heavy fog or orain but i dont see the need of it and its ugly. I want the whole strip to light up smile.gif

QUOTE(Landy @ Mar 8 2012, 12:04 AM)
If we dont turn it on.. it looks kinda weird.. like the sportage where the whole part of light attach to the boot area is not light at all unless you mod it yourself.

I would have love if the whole of the red strip on the boot area is lighted + the rear fog light. Hope it could be modded just like the sportage. It would be awesome!  brows.gif

Just my 2 cents..  icon_idea.gif
*
Will let you guys know bout the status from NAZA. They told me they will get back to me soon.

QUOTE(1GTR1 @ Mar 8 2012, 12:12 AM)
That's right too, I think it's better he go to Naza to ask about it... I just looked at the Optima brochure and indeed the rear red lights go across to the boot
*
Yeah. and furthermore it is not mentioned anywhere that * picture is for illustration purpose only or model shown might be different. So we have a point here to fight for it.

QUOTE(stanleychai @ Mar 8 2012, 10:51 AM)
Hi Bro, you have a nice ride ! will get my K5 soon. I'm planning to have some exterior mods but are these mod void KIA warranty ? I'll probably change the rim, rear light and slight mod in head lamp...

How much of the courier cost from Sharkracing.com? any news of KIA original GPS navigator? My SA told me KIA is going to bring in some accessories.
*
Bro, Sharkracing's price is always inclusive of shipping cost smile.gif

Bro, contractually any mod will void your warranty. But normally they will close one eye if its a minor mod. Even rims they usually close their eyes, but if u have any prob with absorber or other wheel related prob then they might not give warranty for that portion or even worse the whole car. It all depends. My advise always mod things where you can change back plug & play. Meaning no wire cutting or splicing. So that when u need to claim for warranty u can change back to the original one first then go and do the claims. smile.gif

WOW!!! Congrats!! I also feels white looks very nice... nod.gif

I am not sure about the broucher thing.. but the brake lights looks different. The whole red strip of the red light should have lighter up... not a small portion on the boot area only. I am not sure wheather we got the 2011 or 2012 version. The one on your picture is the LED red light something like the DRL in front. We have DRL at the back also.. not sure is it good or not..  rclxub.gif

Did you put any PPS (Paint Protection System) coating on your car? If got.. where and how much it cost??

Well.. if I do indeed get this car.. hope to spot your car in Penang. I work in sales and I travel to Penang twice a month so basically I need a new and reliable car with long warranty. My old car need to fix often hence I am commited to getting a new ride..  nod.gif

Was thinking of getting the Sportage earlier because of the high seating capability and wide viewing angle afforded by tall vehicle like SUV that leads to some comfortable long distance travel (thats what my friends says after driving his new Tucson). But I think the K5 better fc and more features than sportage makes me lean towards the K5 more.

If some of my observations are wrong.. please enlighten me..  notworthy.gif
Thanks

the unlock button and sidemirror adjust button is NOT illuminated.

new civic oso going for launching already...called honda to ask abt civic coz sister in law wants it, but they say current model stock no more, waiting for new civic delivery...

a bit sad abt the tail light issue, not the straight continuous strip..dunno why they change it...

wanted to change the rear number plate bulb..but cudnt take out the brown socket...cant see the clip, or izzit turn type..sked will break it...anyone changed it?
*
Bro, yes the unlock button and sidemirror button is not illuminated.

Headlight issue: hope Naza solves it fast. still waiting for thier reply. if i do not get any reply im going take it it up another level. I hate the rear light now as it looks like teana. except the 'C' shaped led design is inverted.

I did change the number plate bulb. it is turn type and a little bit tight.

Bro, already pm'ed you on the details

Bro, stock HID bulbs are only 4300K?   shakehead.gif

8000K-10000K would look smashing!  thumbup.gif

Won't you risk voiding the warranty?
*
Yes nearly all stock hids from manufacturer are 4300k.
I'm only changing the bulbs not the whole sys. Its just plug n play. If any prob n need to claim warranty i just switch back to the original ones smile.gif

Hmmm. For me i like white the most. Silver is definate no no as it looks very uncle-ish. Its not sporty. Ill never buy any silver car. I have never drooled looking at silver car. As for K5 white looks great with the black contrasting parts.

But everyone has different taste. So buy it according to what u like smile.gif

I would do the same, hahaha. However, the car has really low clearance, so be careful when you park your car. I almost scrape my front bumper on the side walk curbs a few times. Phew...

Anyway, don't worry bout your wife driving it, the rear is ok as we have the rear camera. But the front is a little difficult to estimate. My wife has no problem driving it now, very ganas, FC rises to
14-15l/100km.

Added on March 15, 2012, 11:12 am

Can mod it, put LED lights. Hahaha. Btw, I'm a bit tempted to change the head lights to something whiter, 5000 or something. Will it void warranties?
*
Bro, guess im the guinea pig. hahaha, changed my HID bulb to 6000k. Looks cool but ull lose brightness. Still evaluating as just changed yesterday evening.

Is it true that the bodykit and navi units are available at naza?

Hey, where did you get your emblem from? it looks cool. Did they stick over it or did they remove the old KIA logo?
And any news regarding the complaint to NAZA regarding the incomplete rear light? Thats the only thing that sucks about it.. Otherwise it has been an AWESOME buy...hahaa
Btw, i called NAZA regarding the GPS and bodykit thingy. They said they dont have the option available yet as for now. Not sure when they will get it. It would be awesome to have the touch screen GPS thingy soon...

Bro, bought it from sharkracing.com
Front n rear u have to remove the existing ones. Steering n rims just stick on
Guys i have some questions regarding the Optima after my last test drive over the weekend:

1) I noticed a burnt smell coming from around the car after the 30 min drive. This also happened on earlier test drives. I notice this happens after fast acceleration. Why is this happening?

2) The steering wheel behaves rather erratically when turning corners over bumpy roads or hard braking. Like it has a life of its own

3) The area around the car is also very warm possibly from the heat emanating from underneath the car. Ive never experienced this on other cars before.

Can someone provide some insight especially current owners? Anything mentioned on foreign websites/forums on possible similar problems on the Optima?
*
Bro,
1) on the smell, did smell it once but not too obvious prob still new

2) steering vibrating. Did not have any of that. Prob the tyre pressure to high as when i checked the tyre pressure it was pumped to 44psi from factory. Have reduced it to 36 front n 34 rear. Tyre noise also reduced.

3) hot air, yes it is hotter than other makes.

Guys, This lights cost about USD120 in Ebay, please check this site,
http://partswini.com/Exterior-LED%20Module...102230000000567

I'm waiting their reply about the shipment costing if I just want to order 1 piece of this. Please share if someone know an accessories shop can install this to us.
Sorry to say that, the emblem is not ugly, the problem is your mindset. We are car lovers but not brand slave. If proton can produce a quality car, i don't mind to give them a chance!

My previous car is Toyota Camry, but it has been stolen end of 2011. No doubt, for some peoples camry is a best choice in D-Segment Car but the car is not as good as i thought! Not equal to what i have paid for. Anything wrong with us who drive a KIA? a Korean make? just because of the branding?
*
Bro, to fix the light, u need to bake the whole headlamp in the oven to open the sealent n then fix the light n reseal it n hope it does not become a fish tank smile.gif
QUOTE(kenrain @ Mar 21 2012, 06:34 PM)
Yes, not fair right? Should complain till top management and let our voices be heard and change back the tail light to the full strip ones. Not too sure our bro zrill tail light case is able to get replacement, any update bro zrill?
*
Bro kenrain, no update yet. Will call them tommorow n update here. Also, the ones in the showrooms are also the same not full strip.
