Dont forget that the Optima is a new generation car. Dont compare that with a 2006 model Camry or Accord. Wait for the new Camry to be launched in Malaysia and see the specs. Ppl who go for Camry's arent interested in USB ports and other small gadgets.

If u wanna talk about specs then compare with the Peugeot 508 which costs approx RM170K. Now thats a car which has got really impressive specs which even beats the shit out of the new Passat & Mondeo. May not have the best gearbox or engine but its still worth its while.

I think the difference is much bigger. Let me give u an example:

2003 Hyundai Sonata 2.0L original purchase price approx RM 110K current selling price RM25K (77% loss in resale value)
2003 Toyota Vios 1.5L purchase price RM74,700 current selling price RM 41K (45% loss in resale value)

I know its not an ideal example since its a different segment but its just to give you an idea. Sorry to bring up the Vios again.

anyway, no matter what, if u looking for a car, look for the one that you are happy with, if you got the bucks doesn't matter jap or korean cars, you can afford to buy another one

small-jeff, another reason for you to book one: Korea launched 2013 model without any cosmetic changes. They added in a few additional driver aids, auto parallel parking and stuffs like that.

After searching the entire morning, found two possible fixes for the creaking sunroof: 1) grease the sunroof parts using special non-corrosive grease (USA solution) 2) Replace a wrong-sized screw (China solution)

Forgot to add: The ECO mode really dulls the drive train response, i wonder how much would it improve the fuel economy. However, i find it smoothens gear changes over the normal mode.

first, K5 car price is 139k, if want to compare to passat 170k coz both shud be car price onli, w/o ins and etc.
2nd, this m'sia k5 spec is consider premium range, if u really go through the spec sheets...from the car manual, u can see that kia optima has many parts version for their spec differentiation, ie with or w/o sunroof, cluster meter with colour screen, smart key push start stop, 18" rim, infinity sound system, dual a/cond w rear air duct, paddle shifter, auto wiper & headlight, xenon, DRL and many more...
means that it can go lower price for lower spec
3rd, this is a CBU car, so incur some tax there...in my opinion, korean labour skills or machinery tech shud be better than CKD m'sia..no offence..
4th, CKD m'sia passat...not sure how much the parts has been localised, and over time, definitely will increase more local parts..again no offence
