IF you comparing the car and property , bro, i prefer you go for property 1st . now a day property price increased very fast and expensive ..
if not buy now future will be even more , get a appreaciation thing (property price increase biggrin.gif ) , before u get your depreaciation stuff ( transpotation blink.gif )

just my 2cents. icon_idea.gif

question: issit good to dump more down payment on the car loan deposit?

QUOTE(K5WHITE @ Mar 29 2012, 05:11 PM)
there is no definite answer to that..

first, you have to know urself, wat are u going to do with the savings u have..if u plan to keep it in Fixed Deposit onli, then better put more downpayment into the car...if u have plan to spend it for business or any investment, then dont put too much into car deposit...

car loan interest is compounded...meaning, simple multiply..ie 2.5% pa x  9 years loan x  loan amt...example, loan 100k  at 9years tenure at 2.5% int cost u 22.5k in total interest

however, house loan is not compounded interest...house loan interest is calculated base on the exact amt still owed to the bank at that day (most banks do daily calculation)...say u owe bank 100k now, but next year it shud be lower like 90k...so by next year, u will be paying interest base on 90k..and so forth

but car loan NO...the total interest is charged regardless when and how much u still owe bank at certain point in your loan tenure...if im not wrong, a 2% car loan int, is equivalent to somewhere 3.8% effective interest rate....
so this will roughly give u idea on how to decide...
*
bro K5WHITE, care to explain how u estimate this amount?

For me it depend how much you afford to make the monthly installment and thats where you judge how much to put your deposit...any other thought?
*
i was thinking is it good to dump DP = RM43888 or RM23888 since if i dump in RM23888 the balance RM20000 can b placed in the house loan.... hhmm... hmm.gif
if based on the APR calculated by K5WHITE, the loan % between those 2 is not that significant

I would always say take out a max loan on the car (but dont go beyond 7 yrs tenure). Use the rest of the money and invest elsewhere. FD's are crap but there are many other options available.

But generally, i would say this. If you dont own at least 1 property and if your total earning capacity isnt at least RM8K per month, then please reconsider the Optima. Cars are a losing commodity and property (in the right location) is always the best safeguard against inflation. ALso need to take into account your other debts.

Btw, whats your definition of good salary anyway?

Windscreen cover is important not just for any eventualities but also good in case you wanna change windscreen every year (but need to retint that portion as well too). Might be an option especially for those who travel alot.  biggrin.gif

RM400 for 4 pieces?? That works out to be RM100 per piece? Thats really crap! Not worth changing then. Stick with it for 1 year and then change to Michelin.

Added on March 29, 2012, 6:16 pm

Bro, its not about the deposit. If u can only afford a RM800 monthly installment, the Optima is well over your head. Do you own properties?
*
Good pay means >rm5k per month

If the service centre as bad as its salesmen, then i strongly recommend you avoid this Red Cube. Really pathetic service which normally means the branch manager is ineffective.

RM5K is the benchmark for good salary? Common la! That salary is barely enough to survive in KL if you have a family and a housing/car loan to pay. Thats why im quite happy with the new Bank Negara ruling regarding car loans. Will take some of those wannabies off the streets.  biggrin.gif
*
i mean for those who hvnt married yet.. of cos if married ad if with rm5k salary, no need to think bout owning this car... tongue.gif

Hey guys, I know some of u may find me irritating, but I'll say, may be this is a good survey for everyone..

If u r a 25yr old, single guy,  daily routine is driving car to work plus to shop etc and may be some long trip during holidays, and ur budget allows (of course with some loan too), which would u choose? optima or 508?

And, does optima comes with rear windscreen shade? which I doubt..
*
nop.. optima doesnt come with rear windscreen sheet.. btw, i always c ppl comparing this 2 cars.. can someone attach the 508 brochure at here.. i wanna have a look at it... cos Peugeot Msia site is down currently..
