Guys,I overcharged my HTC desire battery for 12hours,will it harm my battery and decrease the lifespan of the battery?

Hi,guys. I use my desire until no battery and then baru charge the phone.will it harm the battery?and decrease it lifespan?I always do that...please share your opinion...thanks...
