Since we are on this topic... does anyone here do your own anal gland expressing on your poodles? Just that smaller breeds need expressing when it looks "full" to avoid scooting, infection etc. I perform it on my own after having the vet shown it to me on how it's done and watching lots of video on youtube. I told my other friends about this and she says it's very gross and would ask the groomers to do it for them, haha! I just thought, I send bebe for grooming once in 2 months and sometimes his anus area looks full after a month of grooming, what happens then?

And once, I had a very bad experience at this petshop/grooming place. I asked one very young groomer if she could just do the anal expressing for me. She charged me RM10, and after that when I looked at bebe's anal area, it was VERY bruised!!! It looks like, pardon the description, like when someone gives a very bad 'love bite', and the scar stays red and scraped for the first few hours. Even his tail is bruised! She covered it up by saying, his anal gland is very infected and wanted me to buy some products with an unknown name to treat the area. I told her it doesn't look infected, it looks like someone scraped it with a knife! After that, I only send my precious bebe to groomers that I trust and are gentle to him.

i was shown how to express the anal gland during bath time for my maltese by my breeder, so i normally do it every bath time.... the small amount of liquid that squirts out really smells awful.... there was once i aimed wrongly and it hit my sleeves.... whistling.gif its a rather simple procedure to do IMO....

Hi guys/gals,

I will be getting a toy poodle tomorrow and i was wondering what to feed it (brand/type). As I am quite particular with the food given as I myself is a chef.. LOL.. If possible, I could introduce raw food diet?

Hey if you're interested in raw feeding, perhaps you can check out another thread in lowyat discussing about BARF & raw feeding... https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=856663

Another thread in lowyat you can find is on dog food discussion.... https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1411212

Hope that helps smile.gif

Just my opinion.... But probably you've already went through with the breeding without reading up much about it....

Especially your's is a teacup, finding a male bigger size than her could cause her babies to be bigger than her which could lead to difficult labour.... You'd probably need to spend on c-sec....

If you havent went through with the breeding, i would strongly advice you to read up on pregnancy, breeding, feeding newborns in case their mother refuse to feed and anything under the sun regarding to breeding.... Especially being a teacup already having higher risks of health problems, all the more you need to prepare if you have no experience..

Also ask yourself, what is your main reason to breed her? To sell her pups for money? So is she your money making machine? To let her experience childbirth? To have puppies like her? So is it worth to risk her life for all those?

And have you check her & the potential male ancestry line, the potential male and herself for any inheritable diseases? Most dont appear until old age.... Do you want her following generations to also suffer from genetic defects and health problems?

by wet food do you mean those dog can food? did you just recently let her eat can food? if its just recently start to eat can food then don't want to eat the kibbles, that's coz can food actually contains much much much much more flavourings in the food, so it tastes so much more better than dry kibbles.... and very much more unhealthy for ur dog.... its like children wanting to eat fast food / junk food rather than their proper meals....

I would suggest stopping the can food, and continue to give her kibbles, after a few days, she will eventually be hungry enough to eat her kibbles.... but as owners, I understand the heart ache of seeing our furbaby not eating.... >.<

I never give can food to my girl because its unhealthy and she can be picky.... once I gave her steam fresh chicken meat for dinner 2 days in a row, she refused her kibbles.... immediately I stopped giving her steam meat, and after a few days of food strike, she is back to her kibbles.... she needs to learn discipline, if not no nice food for her.... only once in a blue moon I will add egg whites or steam chicken (meat only, no bones) for some variety in her meals.... these are more healthy options.... also some fruits which dogs can eat, I will share with her as treats when I eat fruits....
