AMY is an upcoming survivor horror game which is exclusive to PSN. You play as Lana, who needs to escort a little girl called Amy through a cities of Zombies.

Interesting new gameplay mechanics relies on the fact that Lana is slowly becoming a zombie herself, while Amy has a mysterious ability that prevent Lana from turning when she is close to Amy.

Story

Dark Days

The story begins on a rainy December day in 2034. Global warming is in full swing, spreading diseases and natural disasters all around the world. You play as Lana, a character who regains consciousness following a comet impact in the small town of Silver City. Upon awakening, you discover that Silver City has descended into chaos. Violence, fury, rage, wreckage and death: the world you knew has been torn to Hell.

Struck by a mysterious virus, most of the townspeople have transformed into gruesome creatures and now prowl the streets as a wild horde. You’re wounded and you know you must escape, but you’re infected and the viral process has already begun: Hell is now pumping through your veins. There are only two ways to survive the infection. One is by locating special medical equipment found on the corpses of soldiers who have invaded Silver City. The other lies with Amy.

Unlikely Alliance

By your side is a strange little girl named Amy, who can’t speak but whose face expresses both fear and sadness. While you’re fleeing and trying to protect her, you realize that being close to her stops the contamination and even temporarily heals you. That might be the reason why infected humans, grisly creatures, Special Forces combatants and even other survivors are after the two of you. To stay alive, you will have to help each other.

But contrary to many games with a secondary character, Amy is neither a super warrior nor a docile character that follows you. You can use her small size and weight to reach inaccessible areas and ask her to do specific actions. Being a child, Amy is also naturally curious and will explore the environment with you – sometimes she might even draw your attention to something you would have missed.

More importantly, Amy possesses several special abilities. By pressing R1, you can hold her hand. This enables you to heal, but also lets you feel Amy’s heartbeat through the rumble of the DualShock 3, which lets you feel her stress level while you explore dangerous locations. This might be very useful, even if holding her hand slows you down. Amy also has several other special abilities that I’m not going to detail now…but trust me, you will like them.

Survival Stealth

Your overall goal is to escape with Amy, and find a safe shelter to save her (we call this mechanic “exfiltration”). You’ll hide, run, fight, solve puzzles and use cunning, and you will often be free to choose your tactics. In addition, while you progress, you will meet different characters and explore the special bond between Amy and Lana.

One of our goals is to make you feel the fragility of Lana and Amy. Lana is not trained to fight; Amy is just a kid. But you can try to avoid your enemies, for example, by hiding in a closet or under a table. While hiding, you can spy on your pursuers…but be careful!

Another option is to use your infection to your advantage. When you show signs of infection, most of the enemies won’t attack you if you move slowly. But you will have to avoid the soldiers, who will shoot you on sight, and you’ll need to stop the infection before it‘s too late. Most of the enemies are able to communicate with each other so if one spots you, the others will rush in to attack. If you’re clever, you can exploit their intelligence to deceive them and trigger a fight between soldiers and infected humans.

But being smart won’t be enough. When cornered, you’ll need to gather your courage and fight back tooth and nail because your enemies are fierce. Although you have an inventory, you won’t be choosing between tons of items: You will have to make do with small weapons: clubs, crowbars and the like. Lana only carries light items with her and uses only one weapon at a time. In a pinch, you can sometimes use the environment to your advantage, for instance by attracting an enemy into a water puddle and electrifying it.

Edit: removed the "Exclusive" from the title as the facebook page of the game says it's coming for Xbox 360 as well. but definitely first on Playstation 3.

If BD version is at a reasonable price, I don't see why not, there is a difference between sharing with ppl on PSN and owning your own physical copy. And there is the Hard Disk space in question. and if the size of the game is big the download time.

I still remember my ME2 download, it only success after 3 attempts. all 12 GB :S

I am one of those few people here who don't share psn game. I buy all psn games on my own. Hard Disk space & download time is not a problem for me, so I rather save money and buy psn game. I would only buy the BD version if the game has a huge file size like Infamous 2 which is around 15 GB.

Siren was released on BD only in Asia because at the time, Asia PSN hasn't matured yet. All other regions had to buy Siren on PSN.

First it was a PSN exclusive
then they announce it for XBLA
Now PSN gamers have to pay MORE than XBLA gamers.

Because of this, they're now letting the gamers decide if paying an extra USD3 is fair or if they should lower the price to meet XBLA's

i know where my vote went to!

Go to their facebook page and Vote for what you think is best! (pay USD3 more than XBLA or pay the same price)

their reasoning for the price difference:

QUOTE
“We decided to have a new approach to digital distribution by proposing heavy content at a very reasonable price because we believe price is a key issue, especially during hard economic times. Indeed, we believe AMY could have been sold a little bit higher. However, the issue we have to deal with is that a price in MS points doesn’t have the same value in all countries. Indeed, because of fluctuations between the dollar and the euro, 800 MS points are currently worth $10 in the US but €10 in Europe, which is about $12.80.

Vote away;

There should be an option for "Not Buying" tongue.gif

In all honesty, whether or not MS points aren't being standard, they should have kept the price on a standard regardless.
It should be $9.99 on both platforms, regardless of any conversion rate.

Most other developers does this even with a loss.

probably just an oversight. This is an European developers so their intended pricing is 10 Euro. Microsoft's point system policy restricts them of using the same points in both US and Euro. causing it to translate to $10 in the US. While Sony allows more freedom for developers to see their price.

Dead Space is the only prominent horror franchise this generation(RE got only 1 new game so far so really can't match up to Dead Space). I hope AMY could made it big.

Note my keyword is "franchise". I count RE5 out because

1) it is no longer scary
2) it is basically just one game in this generation, until Operation Raccoon City is out

Dead Space has it's first game in this generation of console, and now already has a second game and two spin-offs.

Yes Siren is a Horror franchise, but it only has one game in this generation of consoles. It's been quite a while since that game came out, but looks like it doesn't built enough new fanbase for this franchise to continue on this generation of console. That's why I hope AMY can change that, I hope AMY does well enough for a sequel or something similar to develop, and built up that horror game franchise again.

AMY has the right ingredients for a good horror game.
Unfortunately the gameplay itself is ridiculed with frustrating controls and dumb AI.

It's an unfinished recipe.

In other words, AMY fails.

wasn't the point of horror game is to give you a "hopeless" sense with their unresponsive controls? tongue.gif

I read an article about how the imperfect controls of PS1 era contribute to the success of horror games, and how the perfected controls of sixth and seventh generation consoles shifted focus to action heavy game.

Need to find out where that was.

Yes, to an extent.
I wouldn't mind the RE-tank or slow-as-poke controls of Silent Hill.
They were still quite responsive (to me) atleast.

But AMY... the problem is that the controls are frustrating and unresponsive, coupled this with some odd bugs.. it's sort of hard not to get angry.
Is this game worth $10? No.

Like I said, the game is an unfinished recipe which is really quite a shame (I know it was cut down as a full retail game however).

Haha the responsive(or non-responsive) controls contributing to a fear factor of a horror game is an interesting argument. I can somehow agree though... I remember fumbling my ass off in Resident Evil one when the frackin zombie dog burst through the window in that small-ass corridor! sweat.gif
I have feared dogs in games from then on.
So bottom line for this game is that it ain't worth the money?

DSP does a playthrough to the game, he got frustrated and rage quit:

I watched a good chunk of his playthroughs, and yes in the beginning the controls sucked. But further down the "turn into zombie to sneak through enemies" mechanic is really fun. I think I'll actually like it!!!

it is really not as bad as it be, ok the controls are weird and non-responsive compare to today's standard. But do note that this is a survival horror game and not an action game. And this is a $10 that has a production value that exceeds even some of the $60 game.

I would say the game has a fair asking price of $10.
