I think I have better luck hitting mega jackpot than meeting a perfect contractor. May be I am a skeptic but I have done my fair share of renovations and some are fairly big budget (>300k) but I havent found Mr. Perfect Contractor.
What I am seeing cited here are small to medium projects at best and you got perfect contractors that don't seem to make any mistake, will right all wrongs proactively to "perfection" at his own cost, use the bestest materials, very reasonable cost, etc etc. Put it this way, if the contractor is THAT good, he will be doing renovation projects that >500k and not your 50k project.
Granted, people have different expectations. May be some people are easy to please. But many renovations are comprising of many interelated tasks and mistakes are unavoidable most of the time. Some serious one may require rework at contractor's own cost but those borderline unclear requirements most of the time the customer will just have to accept. In addition, if the vendor is so perfect that the only blemish is that he is late on delivery because of the customer kept on changing requirements. Come on, what a bs ... if you keep on changing requirements don't even say it is the contractor's fault and list it as the only "fault" as to balance the recommendation.
Even my best contractors, I have complained that one is too expensive but he is good; one is flexible to fix the problem but his workers did make mistakes on the work; one can do everything asked but can't think much value added solutions.
May be some of the recommendations are genuine but I sure hope people that are requesting for contact info understand that what works for one may not work for you and there is no such thing as perfect contractor with no flaw. One has to do proper evaluations and research instead of just taking recommendation for one forum.
