QUOTE(daniellehu @ Feb 5 2021, 12:29 AM) I recently had my father's 51 years old house renovated in Cheras. It is not a lavish type of renovation but just to provide a breath of fresh air into the house. After going through a pain staking survey on the work quality and corresponding prices from various renovation contractors, we have finally decided to engage one in the 2nd week of December. Hi daniellehu, possible to share his contact number? thanksThe main reason why I have chosen this contractor is plainly because he is extremely patience attending to all of my questions especially when I am not an expert in this field while trying to understand how things work, the schedule of his refurbishment work, the type of materials that he is using and etc. Believed me, even my husband "beh tahan" me with all the questions at times. As I am no longer staying with my parents, he took the liberty to sent me the progress photos on a daily basis. The depth of the foundation, the size of the steel bar used, the tiles installation work where all wall tiles are pre soaked (with video showing bubbles emerging from the tiles, omg!) He is very accommodating especially when I have made certain last minute changes also he is alright with it. The electrical cables used for our entire house is also a branded one according to him. I was told that the wires can last for at least a good 15 to 20 years time and the brand is either Maga or Mega, I cant quite remember. He took a lot of photos on the wire used, displaying the brand printed on the wire prior to burying them into the wall in pvc conduit. Since the wall is old, there are aging plaster, peeled of paint and also uneven surfaces. These are carefully attended, replastered and painted. The wooden door jam and wood made louvered windows have also been removed, making way for the new door and alum windows. The mold on external wall are being washed using water jet (this was shown in video too, knowing me There was a delay in their work due to the recent MCO lockdown but our contractor made their way back and continue with their work in mere one week after the lockdown. They managed to secure their work approval and assuring us he is able to complete his job before CNY. Finally, he managed to complete his work on last Friday. The whole house has been thoroughly washed and cleaned. I am very satisfied and happy with his work. Overall, he is a responsible & committed contractor. I would recommend him to anyone who is interested, especially to those who has very little idea of what renovation is all about. |

QUOTE(dannykhoo1 @ Sep 19 2019, 10:14 PM) I just did my SOHO unit and I am very satisfied with Mr. Sam's services. Hence promised him to return him a favor by posting here. Hi, Can pass share me his contact? thanksHe is friendly, and always listen and meet my needs. Although i'm a bit fussy when it comes down to details, he always there to solve my problems. I am surprised that he is also an interior designer. Ideas he has given to me are mush more practical and stylish. For my Soho, I has a wall full with air-con, window access to air-con compressor, TV area, and he manage to hide all the mess with beautiful design with functional cabinet. The carpentry workmanship is good, and they will go all the way for perfection, even a minor crack on the edge, they will just change and replace whole laminates for me. The outcome of the actual carpentry is almost 90% close to the 3D I get initially. However he bit late on delivery, I'm not too sure is it my fault that i keep ask him to change things around, but ultimately i'm happy with his service, his price isn't too expensive compare to a few contractor/ID that i ask for quotes. Will definitely work with him again in my future house. |

I think I have better luck hitting mega jackpot than meeting a perfect contractor. May be I am a skeptic but I have done my fair share of renovations and some are fairly big budget (>300k) but I havent found Mr. Perfect Contractor.
What I am seeing cited here are small to medium projects at best and you got perfect contractors that don't seem to make any mistake, will right all wrongs proactively to "perfection" at his own cost, use the bestest materials, very reasonable cost, etc etc. Put it this way, if the contractor is THAT good, he will be doing renovation projects that >500k and not your 50k project. Granted, people have different expectations. May be some people are easy to please. But many renovations are comprising of many interelated tasks and mistakes are unavoidable most of the time. Some serious one may require rework at contractor's own cost but those borderline unclear requirements most of the time the customer will just have to accept. In addition, if the vendor is so perfect that the only blemish is that he is late on delivery because of the customer kept on changing requirements. Come on, what a bs ... if you keep on changing requirements don't even say it is the contractor's fault and list it as the only "fault" as to balance the recommendation. Even my best contractors, I have complained that one is too expensive but he is good; one is flexible to fix the problem but his workers did make mistakes on the work; one can do everything asked but can't think much value added solutions. May be some of the recommendations are genuine but I sure hope people that are requesting for contact info understand that what works for one may not work for you and there is no such thing as perfect contractor with no flaw. One has to do proper evaluations and research instead of just taking recommendation for one forum. This post has been edited by kuchaikway: Feb 10 2021, 12:17 PM |

To me, a good contractor is someone who responsible and sensible. it is always a good practice to be constantly in communication with your contractor, keeping progress in check and avoid any plan deviation ensuring work can be completed on time.

I thought my contractor was pretty decent. Respond to messages, clear quotation, wetwork quality is good, delivery on time and very important.... able to slow talk with my neighbours when issues arise. Depends on luck I guess if you and your contractor ngam or not. Poorly skilled contractor not good, super fussy owner pun susah also. Need to research around and when you decide to engage them, pray nothing major happen. funnymoney liked this post

Hi, I would like to recommend this Indonesian contractor Muniri. 019-612-1329. I have used him for painting my condo, changing toilet flooring, changing water pipes, building kitchen countertops. He is very reliable and his prices are very reasonable. His tiling is first class. I been using him over more than 7 years. The reason I am recommending him is so that he has enough business to continue to work in Malaysia. He stays in PJ, but am willing to travel to Nilai, Klang for big jobs (more than Rm2K). Btw, I am Dr Patrick Soh, Head of Department of IT & Law Unit, Multimedia University and dont earn anything from him. He speaks only in BM.
