Clear coat is a type of coating which is applied on the paint to protect it. It doesn't have colour hence the name 'clear'.

I think not recommended to touch up by DIY because all the clear coat, base coat and primer are gone.
Normally, we only touch up with base coat and clear coat.
If we don't put primer, your base coat are not going to stick than later the paint peel off.

any car paint shop can produce the colour, provided that u give them the colour code.
just open your bonnet and look for the code.

Its better than to leave the scratch to rust. I've been using touch up paint, Autospa with exact car color code for my City for years. Less than RM30. Used to cover deep scratch and stone chips. Minimize rusting. Thats the intention.

Either that or repaint car for what....stone chipping?

If paint peel off, just touch up again. So far, non of my touch up peel off. No clear coat thus not so nice but better than seeing them rusting. From far, since same color, not so obvious.

Mmm...will have to check out autospa (homefix shop (I think) at lower ground in 1U....) see if got genetic silver color or not.

No lah. Clear coat is applied after the paint to protect it and make it glossy.
Touch up can used for whichever surface that have paint not bumper only.

Ya...purely for preventing metal from rusting AND making the scratch not so obvious from far. Not pretty but does what it was meant to do.

For deep scratch in a line, yes, it can do the work but as mentioned, preventing rusting, making coloring similar but definitely not going to be very pretty. Sort of a stop-gap measure until we repaint the whole part (if we're going to repaint it). If no money repaint...this is the only way.

i just beh song the price, not the touch up paint.
i already have a bottle of chiffon green touch up paint, maybe later go and bottle it (for spray can) for rm10.
i bought the paint from a car paint shop near tou mou gong in ipoh, only cost about rm30 or so.

if your handiwork is good, u can even spray it a few layers and applied clear coat to make it looks as new.

The problem with paint shop touch up paint is how long can it last before it dried up during storage. So far I love autospa for its exact color code color and most importantly if close back properly, can last very long. My bottle over 1 year liao. Liquid still as good as new. Using a form of clear liquid (can see paint drop to base) to maintain paint from drying up in the bottle. Just shake again before use. That day touch up on my silver persona as well.

i think those paint from car paint shop can last long as long we keep it properly under the shade.. and close it tightly .. mine is about 9 month already.

btw @onijoseph... they can bottle it into a spray bottle? tat would be great!! easier to apply... so for am using brush... abit messy if not careful..

the shop that make my paint has this service. one bottle spray can add rm10.

btw, my touch up paint made by the shop is exactly the one on my car. really pro.
they even open my petrol cover lid to make sure the colour is exactly the same.
