for my experience, my setup was a component in front and a 6x9 at the rear. both are running on soundstream's. Then I noticed that there's not much bass coming from the speakers, So i decided to plonk in an amp and a 8" woofer. the sound improved tremendously, that is until i hit the highway and the roadnoise will muddle up everything.
so last 2 weeks, fed up with removing my sub whenever I need to carry goods, I decided to take it off, and then use the amp to power the rear 6x9. Boy it was miles apart when it was powered by the HU. It was as good (if not better) then with the sub. Seeing it was good, I bought a 4 channel amp so that I could power my front component and rear 6x9.
Now there's more usable bass (so to speak) when im driving. Previously anything above 100km/h would mean death my my sound, now its so much clearer and the bass is much more defined (although not AS low)
So yeah I agree with the guys here. Its better to know your setup first before jumping into a sub. Its not always good and could end up killing your ICE (for me that is)
oh, but..why 4channel amp instead of 2channel? you see, i have a rear 6x9 speaker with 800watt max, that's what written there. Is that telling me something? Is the amp just increase so-called power for subwoofer? sorry i'm quite noob at this.

Normally when Mitsubishi gives RF, they have an ambient mic installed in the car. That's their trick under their sleeves to make the stock setup sound good but when you plonked in an aftermaket unit, it sounds rubbish.
i also went to the roadshow, that pajero sound system really impressed me!

how wish my car can be like that.
now i get abit confuse for getting sub or no. hmmmm
