UOB website 1 place states that to meet Platinum annual fee waiver, RM3,000 CUMULATIVE spend p.a., another place states RM36,000. So, which one is correct?

Added on April 23, 2012, 11:37 pmand other than credit limit, any other difference between Platinum and Classic?

Such questions are frowned upon as stated in the T&C of this forum.
Don't want to pay service tax then use debit card. You are asking the bank to pay the RM50 for you to the gov ... RM50 is not a fee imposed by the bank but instead an "income" to the government. If anyone understand that the GST is then is not a waiver.
*
Then how about the Card Annual Fee? Most banks waive/offset/bear it with sufficient utilisation and/or meeting certain T&C.

QUOTE
7. We have been getting a lot of requests for how to avoid GST. Here's the answer - (Thanks to Gen-X) If you don't want to pay GST then use a DEBIT Card. Just because you wish to break the BNM rules / law, please don't drag us along with you - we are not your accomplice and we don't get anything (nor we want to).

And WHAT RULES/LAW? Banks do give rebates/waivers/freebies to "offset" the Service Tax (NOT GST) from time to time, so are you saying that the banks break BNM rules, Mr Moderator?

Young man ... if you have concerns regarding my frank answer, you may forward your question to BNM and ask them in the same tone you replied me. And you can post what do they tell you.

I understand you are not happy because we told you off but it is because your understanding of GST is wrong but apparently you do not like to be challenged and you believe you are absolutely right. As I said ... ask BNM via B&W or call in in the same tone you replied me and see what will they tell you - I don't think you can dispute BNM official answers can you?

Read up the official statement about GST as issued by the Malaysian Treasury - and tell us what the interpretation is.

I can even tell you to look carefully as the choice of words the bank use in the marketing campaign (B&W) - do they actually say that the GST will be waived or offset?. Ignore what the agents, 3rd parties or words of month tell you about GST because they are unreliable and will switch in an instant + they are not written anyway.

Mr jusTinMM ... you may do research and post us your result, evidence and official answer from all the banks + BNM regarding GST waiver or offset. If you think you are right ... this is your chance to prove how right you are (reinforce your understanding about GST) and how wrong many of us here.

Now I know CC section of FBI House got an authority who can tell ppl off whistling.gif

Yes, GST is LAW, no argument about that, it is an INCOME TO THE GOVERNMENT. But does the government really care and go the extra length to audit the flow of the RM50?

Banks do
- waive/bear/offset (or whatever word u like to use, just put it as, cardholder don't need to pay, ok?) the RM50 when cardholder request to cancel their card due to fees/little usage
- give "rebates" (ngam ngam RM50) when cardholder use the card for X no. of times and/or X value of transactions in a year

So what now? Mr Moderator? Shall we report such banks to BNM? Ask BNM to investigate the rationale behind giving rebates of RM50, audit the trail of the GST monies?

Law is one thing, real world practices is another, mister.

i believe you are right hye.

i would love to explain but its impossible to certain people who believe in themselves and not read between the lines that GST is never "waived".

it has and always have to be paid.

and to those kiddies, u must be from school to have not heard of this new word called "audit"
*
1. Do u have to be such a grammar nazi? Waive or offset or rebate or whatever word u like to use, any LAYMEN can understand what I'm asking, which was

"Now UOB got give any BENEFIT so that cardholder need not pay/bear the GST?"

2. I'm an accountant, I know better than u what is "audit"

It is such a shame to the Accounting industry that people like you cannot even understand what constitute rules and marketing gimmick.

RM50 is a must pay to gov under the act, we knew it.  that's why you will see RM50 GST being charged to your cc account.

Cash rebate offered to customers to offset GST or as welcome/loyalty bonus are marketing gimmicks to attract/retain customers.

GST and cash rebates are 2 separate issues even though some agents linked them together to promote sales but banks don't explain it that way.  If you are still not satisfied on how banks handle the GST matter, you can always report them to BNM since BNM existed for a reason.

Uhm correct me if im wrong...

UOB does not give smart cash anymore.... they only give cash rebate and will be automatically credited/shown in your statement.

I still remember like 4-5 years ago the cash rebates are accumulated and u have like X months to use it or it will be gone..
*
No, please check UOB website, they're giving BOTH cash rebates (all transactions) and Smart$ (selected vendors) currently

For Sushi King, only entitled to Smart$ on bill >RM50 icon_rolleyes.gif

I guess UOB wlll most probably waive it, but the point is why come out with this ridiculous policy which causes in convenience to the cardholders that settle in full monthly and also use up the customer service resources. For those who have installment plans and outstanding balances, they don't won't waive also cannot do anything.

And you know what, I called UOB recently and was told that for my UOB Plat, there is currently NO autowaiver condition/policy  shocking.gif I will be charged annual fee no matter what (I did satisfy the previous condition of RM3K and 12 swipes) and have to call in to beg them for the AF waiver  doh.gif
