There're two types of installment plans:
1. During the point of sale - collaboration with merchant. Merchant should have the terminal with collaborating bank in order to convert the swipe into installment. May incur one time up front charges but usually the merchant will absorb to make the deal attractive. Otherwise, cardholder should be notified upfront about the charge.
2. After swipes took place - offer by the bank through selected calls or general time limited campaign/promo. Bank will offer installment plan to its cardholders for converting ANY outstanding in their CC into flexible repayment plan for certain tenure at certain interest rate (could be 0% at all). T&C of the campaign/promo applied. Understand the details properly. There might be upfront one time processing fee too!
