The heavy myFreeview informationals on many channels is a clue that analog is going soon

tried to tune myfreeview on my Sony Bravia & outdoor antenna today.. installed the antenna on the roof pointing directly towards Ulu Kali transmitter which ranged within 40km from my place... channel 49, 698hz.. Signal level 68%, Signal Quality 100%...

however i only managed to get RTM1, RTM2, RTM Sport, BES & TV Okey... it seems to be only MUX2 channels... I've manually scan channel 45, 666hz (MUX1) but the signal quality is zero%, signal level 45%.  what could be the reason?

Can you see the Genting hotels on a clear day? The Ulu Kali site is just to the left.

Yes, i can see the hotels on clear days.. already pointed the antenna to the transmitter gps location...
*
If you can see the hotels, you have clean line of sight and the two MUX should be coming in at very similar levels.

From Menjalara Menara KL may be stronger
Your antenna is a low gain monopole with a preamplifier, so not very much use unless you are using a very long cable.

I suggest we all dont waste money on aerials and all that stuff, just go for dish.Aerials are more prone to lightning and very unstable. The settings  wont work for NJOI cos mytv using different satelite

I see plenty of high rise buildings with rows of Astro dishes some distance from the units. These are vulnerable to lightning strike damage if the building lightning protection is sub standard

Is MyTV really going to keep transmitting K band satellite? I presume that they are using C band to the East Malaysia transmitters for rain fade reliability, so a couple of K band transponders as well gets expensive.

My Samsung 48" LCD is older than that and has working DVB-T2. The MCMC had already published the requirements in 2017

There is nothing special about the Malaysian DVB-T2 specification that a set made for other markets that went DVB-T2 years ago would not already meet. Only locally assembled sets made to a price and old stock dumped here will not have had the feature several years ago

Do you think they can block this boxes without sirim/mcmc approval later?
*
The MCMC is not worried about people watching neighbouring country DVB-T2, they do chase illegal satellite gear and the IPTV piracy boxes.

Stacking two or even four moderate Yagis is more effective than getting a monster Yagi.
Two with a proper combiner gives 3dB more gain, four gives 6dB

I guess that we will be seeing the digital channels being refarmed down by the end of this year, after analog switch off.
That process always leads to a ton of questions from users who don't know how to retune

MyTV will also benefit from improved coverage from the lower channels. Line of site coverage gets an additional 50% radius and more than double the coverage area for the same transmit power by going from ~750MHz down to ~500MHz

When the channels get sorted out, the Group K antenna will be best, channels 21 through 48
Grouped antennas have better gain than a wideband 21-69

DAB is not going to happen in Malaysia.
Most radio listening is done in the car while commuting and the advertisers know that.

Well yea... I also think that the adoption rate is not going anywhere... But since Malaysia is having trials on that, I'll try it out if I got the chance, provided I don't have to break my bank to buy too expensive (to me) equipment to receive it.

And it's on 200MHz+, so in terms of coverage and wall penetration, it's gonna be a difference compared to FM radio reception.
*
The DAB trial has been operational and ignored for ~ ten years
The UK experience is that DAB coverage and building penetration is worse than VHF FM
The sound is horrible too, thanks to too low bitrate to cram more channels in

I,m not sure if the trial here is DAB or DAB+

More likely they don't want you time shifting and fast forwarding through the adverts

I am hearing adverts on Traxx FM announcing ASO on July 31st in Langkawi, followed by the rest of the Peninsular, no mention of East Malaysia

Current DTT frequencies available in Johor Bahru, Singapore and Batam.

When Malaysia utilises 700MHz for mobile use in another few more years, any Malaysian DTT channels frequencies from 698MHz have to be relocated to other frequencies, and viewers who uses IDTV (TV that has built in DVB-T2 digital TV tuner) or non-MYTV digital TV set-top-box would have to retune their sets by perform "Auto Scan" (in layman terms) again once the frequencies is being relocated.

Singapore is going to have to release some of their spectrum, they don't need the gap channels for a start with digital.
A trade off to get to use the 700MHz block

No, Singapore want to use the 700 MHz to 800MHz block for LTE.
Currently that block is for Malaysia and Indonesia TV. To get agreement for that, they should release some of the 500MHz block, which is currently Singapore only
