There are likely many people issued with free decoders, who already have TV with built in decoder.

I built a loop antenna centred at 680MHz and placed it in a Window facing Bkt Sg Besi from Ampang. This gives me stable Mux1 and Mux2 even in heavy rain.

QUOTE(work_tgr @ Apr 13 2019, 05:05 PM) Loops are very simple.Take some 75 Ohm coax like the white satellite cable. Strip back the plastic outer sheath about 46cm. Strip back the braid and foil, leaving a couple of cm to make a stub . Trim back the inner core insulation about 1cm. Bend the inner core into a loop and connect the end to the braid stub. This should make a loop of 46~47cm circumference. I tested this on a network analyser at work to get the length right, a loop only has a bandwidth of about 100MHz Attached thumbnail(s) |

The MCMC seem to have settled on DVB-T2 in 2013, so older sets are likely to not be suitable

Have we reached the point in the roll out where Media Prima have to to pay MyTV? It was meant to be a hard cutover, when the digital network was fully operational. Mux 2 is only just usable.

Having to borrow private money to build the network and give out free decoders to the B40s was always a key part of the project.
Once analog switch off comes along, RTM and the commercial channels have to pay MyTV Basically just like building a motorway with a toll concession. |

This project has been really stretched out from the original plan and this has caused MyTV some major cash flow problems. We don't know who is to blame.

QUOTE(work_tgr @ Apr 17 2019, 08:28 AM) Unifi which is always impacted by underground cable disruption because some constructions are carried out. TM will send sms to users about the excepted recovery date and time. In opposite case, MYTV always not make official announcement before the disruption or announce after the incident, which is too late and meaningless. I don't think MYTV doing its job seriously. It's much easier fo MyTV too, as they only have to worry about their transmitters and national distribution, a much simpler network than Unifi. |

Many older condos have cable distribution systems intended for the old VHF channels only. VHF band 1 switched off many years ago (RTM1). The cheap coax they used can just about handle TV7, but is too lossy at the high channels MyTV has to use until analog switch off

QUOTE(joshhd @ Apr 18 2019, 02:38 AM) I would advise you to get an indoor UHF antenna and get it done, instead of waiting the condo management to upgrade its MATV system that can supports digital TV DVB-T2, which likely that it'll not happen, unless they put a notice that they plan to do so, with an estimated timeframe. Adding to that, many MATV systems will not work well when 700 MHz LTE appears locally, the MATV amplifiers will need input filters |

I am expecting that MyTV will "fail" and get taken over by TM. The creditors will take a painful haircut.

QUOTE(stormaker @ Apr 22 2019, 07:29 AM) Can recommend an indoor antenna to receive the digital signal ? According to google map, distance from the station to my house is 34km. The distance consider near or far ? Can use indoor antenna ? Thanks ! Reception at 34km depends on how clear the line of sight to the transmitter is and especially how high it isTo reach 34km well, it needs to be at least 200m above the general terrain. When Googleearth was in use, it was easy to check the path, I have to use specialised software like Splat or Radio Mobile these days. |

MCMC chairman on BFM today, said analog switch off might start by end of this month.
They are desperate to get analog off nationwide in time for WRC conference in October, to ratify 700 MHz for 5G |

I think that they are after devices that jam other people like some of the import cordless phones and the unlocked pirating android boxes.
Nobody is going to looking for a DVB-T2 decoder |

I wonder if the report is accurate. There are rare cases of boosters radiating a signal but otherwise any random uhf antenna won't cause problems. In KL there is no point using the monster UHF antennas you like you see in Johore
I have seen non-Astro dishes in Ampang and these are seized from time to time. There was one at my condo with camouflage netting over it. This is about people watching overseas satellite channels not censored by the Government. |

QUOTE(joshhd @ May 6 2019, 12:02 PM) It doesn't matter if the channels is free or not, MYTV can encrypt their channels to force ALL viewers to use their own MYTV STBs to watch it, regardless whether your TV supports built-in DVB-T2 or not. MYTV will be living on revenue from RTM and Media Prima to carry FTA channels. If MYTV really want to gain revenue from the sales of their STBs, they can force every viewers to do that. They have the power to do so, but whether if the government or MCMC would allow them to do so, that's another matter. After all, MYTV Broadcasting is privately funded company. Blocking legal TVs from watching these channels by encrypting would give the channels justifiable reason to stop paying. The cost of adding an encrypted MUX and dealing with smartcards and collecting monthly sub is not going to work with Netflix around |
