Renovation Updates:-

Wooden Doors installation:-

Part 1 - Solid Wooden Doors

My Solid Doors (Unpainted), -paint myself later.

Screw it on to get the position right, then check the level.

If need then adjust the level by chiselling the area where the hinges goes. The experienced installers will know how deep the chiselling needs to get the right level.

Attaching the door to the hinges.

End result.

Nice timber grain, sayang if you cover with paint.
But colour of wood a bit mixed, need a darker tone of varnish so that the difference is not so obvious.
Cost more to varnish a door - RM100+. But looks more classy.

so cheap, 100+, that is so much less than what i paid.

What the professional door painter / varnish do, they will adjust the tone accordingly and you get very even color, or at best unnoticeable shade.

From my last count include door skirting, and full paint (staining) for door, frame, and skirting + lock is about 1.4k per door.

Staining makes door easier to crack in few years (saw this from my own door). Shellac better but not as nice looking. Correct if im wrong.

Stain already, you still need shallac. Stain is to dye the door color and still retain the wood grain.

Tumpang this thread since talking bout doors. Received my door this evening.. Nyatoh wood 40"

Any ideas how I should do with it? Stain or paint or shellac? Do people still put the stainless steel strip in the middle?

Am thinking of light color..

Since this is a large door, i was advised to install more hinges (hinge need to be thick one, 3mm. Usual is 2 mm)
