As we age, the production of new skin cells slows down. The blood vessels that supply the cells with essential nutrients become less effective. The formation of collagen decreases, and the skin loses its elasticity. To curb this trend the skin can be supplied more essential nutrients. Your skin consists of three layers:

1. The outer layer (Epidermis)
In the transition between the dermis and epidermis, there is a layer constantly producing new cells. This is where the structure of the skin is composed. Each new generation of skin cells push the previous closer to the outermost layer, the Stratum corneum. Cells in the outer layer are dead, and have wandered from the bottom of the epidermis to the surface. This layer has no blood and lymphatic vessels, so the epidermis is dependent on the nutrition and the oxygen that comes with the blood to the dermis, the layer beneath the epidermis.

2. The top soil (Dermis)
Is rich in collagen fibers and elastic fibers, which work together to make the skin smooth. Via the dermis the skin is supplied with nutrients. It happens by nutrients seeping out through the thin walls of the microscopic blood vessels that lie close to the skin surface.

3. The subcutaneous layer (Hypodermis)
Composed of connective tissue, which is not sharply demarcated from the dermis. It contains varying amounts of adipose tissue, which acts as an insulating padding.
