M50 it won't be too bassy just nice..it more fun compare with M30. But then Monitoring series is more to focusing and sometime you might feel boring..

guys, i've never bought a headphone before so i'm totally clueless.

i listen to music A LOT but i only use the bundled earphones from my ipod

so last week i went to Harvey Norman and tested a bunch of headphones and i really like the Beats by Dre Solo HD headphones particularly because of its COOL looks.

but my friend says that beats headphones are way too expensive and i should get the ATH M50 instead because of its sound quality and durability.

so what do you guys think? And where do i buy Audio Technica headphones anyway?

These two have totally different sound signature.
One is open can while another is close can. So it will come down to which sound signature u prefer.

Yup, I think it will be good for portable as it's coiled + straight cable and the length is 1.2-3.0m.
But be careful with the cable when u are on the move though. U wouldn't want ur headphone comes off after the cable get caught on something/someone.

I'm bad with the description well i don't know the terms too well to even begin

ath-m50 can be driven easily from my iPhone since its only 32ohm i don't need an amp/dac
i like to listen to rock/headbanging songs, the bass is quite punchy and loud
no sound leakage when turning up the vols
the only thing i dislikes is the strong clamp to your head, since its a closed phone that is expected
and the leather pad.. but i saw at head-fi people uses dt250 velour pads and even modded to detachable
maybe -1 to comfort, others is +1 in terms of sound
i haven't done anything maybe in future who knows if I've the necessary tools/skills/money
