Overview
Desktop Replacements have became one of the most important factors for laptop markets, as we would guess as a gaming factor. Nowadays due to growing up the technology of mobility and beneath more powers in the sprits by the huge companies like Intel, Amd and Nvidia, it's been awhile since Gaming Laptops attracted Gamers, even hardcore gamers to purchase a gaming laptop for their gaming use. And as well of course there are many companies which are producing everyday new gaming laptops to be hero of themselves in this hot market of gaming laptops. Beside all of those companies like Asus, MSi and alienware and so on there is Clevo who seems to be more silent than the others but may have introduce to you a range of super configure able laptops with amazing spec that you may find in less laptops. Well Brands like Roccat, Devil tech, Eurocome all are rebranded sellers of Clevo laptops and one of well knows are Sager.

Well, today I have decided to make a review of a unit of mine which I purchased recently, NP7282-S1 which you can call it, Perhaps one of the most or the most strongest laptop in market (well note that with a GTX485m SLI it will beat M18X as well). this unique laptop is the only laptop which capable of running Desktop CPUs instead a mobility CPU and its one of the laptops which can run TWO graphic card at same time with a SLI or CrossFire Cable (well there really few laptops which are capable of this features) and it has 3 space for your hard drive and so on and of course its own design which is a unique to itself.

NP7282 basically gives you a wide variety of choices to configure you favorite specification. you can choose from many of GPUs like GTX460, Recently replaced by GTX560m right up to GTX 470M and GTX 480M (which have been removed from Sager website but other Rebranded of Clevo laptops may offer this cards still ) and as well a GTX 485m which is equall to a GTX460 desktop and also Quadro and FirePro for workstation laptops and as well ATI 5870 or the strong GPU 6970M all in Single and also avavialbe at Dual GPU configuration which will cost you much more and if you are using 6970M CrossFire or GTX485M SLI you will need a extra Adapter as well. Sager allow you to choose from Core i7 950 (which have been removed) and 960 (note that other CPUs like 920 - 940 - 975 all are supported by BIOS) and well from GulfTown family (6 core CPUs), a 970 and a Exterme Edition core i7 990EE ( replaced with 980EE) and all along for 3 rom HDDs and different wireless cards and Optical Drives.

Just A Small Guide to purchase this laptop: ******************************FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PLAN TO BUY THIS ****************
Before we go through the review and unboxing of this unite, I may suggest you some points before you purchase this laptop. NP7282 model is a really Mobiless unite ! you cannot carry this laptop with the spec above easily, it weighted around 6KG and plus that you may need to carry two huge adapter which would be a negative point if you think NP7282 is a super performance mobility laptop, WELL NO ! you are wrong, in this case I may suggest you to take a look at another laptops like Asus and MSI with lower spec and as well much more less weight.

Well if you are not a hard-Core gamer you do not really need to choose an option for a DUAL GPU, DUAL GPU will bring to you a insane PERFORMENCE and as well, in opposite it will cost you a heavy, a real heat producer and perhaps a buggy laptop ! well nowadays GTX485M SLI and 6970M CrossFire are performing really good in Dual scales, but about new options like GTX560m I am not sure to point at it yet. Plus having Dual GPUs doest mean Double performance, but its very dependent on the stability of your driver and as well the Game suppor, it may give you a performance increased about 0-80% based on these two things, you always need to be updated with drivers and crossfire profiles and SLI profiles.

Beware of choosing CPU option. a 960 or even a 990EE, may have somehow a similar perfromence to a 2620QM or even a 2920XM while running games. 970 and 990EE contains 6 core but games usually use 2 or sometimes 4 core and mostly its applications that can use right up to 6 core. so if you only gaming, do not waste you money for purchasing a 990 or any other CPU, you will not see a huge incrase in FPS of your games normally. well note that if you budget is enough you can choose a 970 due to being 32nm compare to older one 960 with 42nm, in this way you may have even less heat.
Yes that is all, the rest of the options I may leave them to your own decision since they are very depending on your daily use and how you will expect from your laptop.

Keyboard - Design - Ports - Display
Always an advantage of having 17 inches laptops to up is having a full keyboard just like a desktop. well NP7282 is no exceptopn. it has a full keyboard. the space provided between keys are very enough and you can easily step your hands one key without touching another keys around it. the keys sensitivity made me a really good impression about it, they are not spongy or very sensitive which take a action with a small touch, they are very balanced and its very good specially for a long time typing. well keyboards are missed a back-lite components which is not a very big issue but if it had it, then it was a really great ++ point for itself. Mouse pad is very good and it's not exactly at the center, the skin is ok but it is not very suitable for gaming if you do not have a external mouse. I rather prefer M15X or even Dell models touch pad.


Well clevo do not really have a fleshy design laptops, perhaps clevo models have a really insane performance but if you own it will not be the best looking laptop you may ever thought you would have, but in my opinion NP7282 has a good desing, it's a minimal design which is good in its own way. the laptop surface are nice and clean with a brushed aluminum high quality and as well you have a clean line at the middle of it with an illuminated name of Sager. it include five speaker however it's a bit weird. touch pad is illuminated and you can see it with a blue light and it is placed almost at the center and you will have enough place to place your hands on laptop without touching the pad itself. power button is not amazing like alienware but they placed it at the right side of laptop above the speaker and its good for itself. well as like as any other laptops all the ports are at the left and side. your drive is at the left with HDIMI and locks and so on. very good to see np7282 have 5 USB which is very enough. I have three external hard drive and one mouse, so I can use them at once and one will left for another use such as a Razer Onza or a XBOX360 Cotroller. I have very impressed by the complete sort of ports and number of USB ports. the design is very minimal and nice.

You have a wide 16:9 style 17.3 inches LED-BackLIte LCD panel in FHD with glossy surface which is truly reflective compare to many other laptops. but if you have a indoor use then that will not be a real problem for you well the screen is HSD173PUW1 screen which before is used in G73 Asus model as well, the display has an excellent quality of images. vivid and natural colors can be seen clearly and its very nice. Fortunately Black color stays really black and it's not a issue like many other laptops, especially when u are watching a movie, the black will not go to fade out in a grey color and generally it has an excellent average of colors, especially in dark games like FEAR, Silent Hill and so on the colors stays what they are. well as you can choose your optical drive with a BLU-Ray reader or burner, with this screen which is wide and big enough and it has an excellent image quality, it will be a great station to watch your blu-ray movies. so far i have tried Coraline which has briliant quality and colors were truly alive and alos Inception was very great and beside it for a real test of black color I used The Dark Knight blur-ray and all the black scenes which can be seen all over the movie were at a great average of view. Angles of view are not good as M15x or even m18x, but it is enough to be like this, but even at the angle view of 80 degree or 70 degree colors are still stable.

Performance
WINDOWS INDEX SCORES:
CPU is 7.7 - GPU is 6.7 - SSD : 6.7 - RAM:7.7

At picture above you can see the Windows Index Scores, well what I hate always is the 5.9 score of popular 7200PRM hard drives and I always wanted to have a higher score since the average is estimated by the lowest score. Well the 80GB 320 Series of Intel gave me an excellent score of 7.6 and as well RAM and CPO are steady at same score - and GPU both side, Graphics and Gaming are at same level. perhaps by overcloking CPU and GPU we can push the limits of this scores further than this.
So let's take a look at the building of GPU and CPU:

CPU: Core i7 970
As I mentioned above the laptop is working with a Desktop CPU instead of a Mobility CPUs. Core i7 970 is a extremely powerful CPU with a high power consumption demand ( 130 WAT) compare to a mobility high end CPU which demands normally 40 to 55 ( for example a 940XM or 2920XM). CPU has 6 core and it have hyper-threading technology as well, 12mb cash and CPU clocks basic is 3.4 GHz and with turbo boost will go right up to 3.6 GHz. Unlike Core i7 960 which stays behind a 2920XM performance, Core i7 970 is something near to a 990EE and the performance depends on what program or game you are running is higher than a 2920XM - specially in demanding apps like CAD, XiliSoft for converting or loading heavy models at 3D max, core i7 970 will have a lot more speed than a 2920XM due to being 6 core. Game performance, more or less will be similar to a 2920xm or even 990EE since even current games mostly use 2 core instead of 4 or 6, and some do use 4 as well. most of the times, under full-load CPU is draining 130 WAT but the temperature are quiet stable.
Core i7 970 was able to be overlooked up to almost 3.6 GHZ and with turbo boost it went nealy3.9 or 4 GHz, but the temps were raised up and once the system crashed down because it was under stress of Intel Extreme tool.

GPU Performance:

NP7282's AMD The Radeon HD 6970M crossfire is one of the out of two GPU ( i mean GTX485m SLI) that can match to a Desktop GPU performance. 6970M crossfire is currently the strongest GPU offered by AMD and it has excellent performance and CrossFire Scale. Card has over 960 Unified shaders and a 680 mhz core clock and memory of 2048MB ( each of 6970Ms) with speed of 900Mhz. you might have all of this number multiply by 2! and there you go, you are ready to rock with you expensive DUAL GPU configuration. It is fully supported by DX11 and GDDR5 memory with 256 bit memory interface. as advantage it might give to you +100% performance increase in games but as a disadvantages, specially mobility DUAL GPUs are highly dependent on your Drivers. you need to be up to date most of the times to be able to take advantage of this Dual Configurations. plus your machine will have a higher noise and heat than being a single GPU machine as well.

SSD:

why shouldn't I forget the SSD with having an extremly powerful CPU and GPUs ! for boosting up the laptop for running apps and less loading times or the time of boot up and shutdown, I've chosen Intel 310 SSD series of 80GB which was enough for me to store my important things, as second HDD for storing GAmes, music and picture and so on I chose 750GB 7200RPM. Well SSD performance is very nice, take a look at the AS SSD benchmark here.

The sequel to the action game that published around two years ago, well its no new things here just a repetitative game .... but it still have its own unique design and gameplay all along with the physic features.

The Witcher 2:
The Witcher 2 is an amazing Western RPG style, sequel to its first game. Witcher 2 has wide ranges of Configurations for video options and beside it, games is beautifully designed with an amazing graphics and the latest technologies that cannot be seen in many games. Generally witcher 2 is a game that might make your GPU to Cry ! many GPUs specially Single GPUs (mobility ) will not be able to render game with a smooth FPS at a very high settings. At the options that you can see newlo except the turned off Uber Sampling, the game is running smoothly at FPS of 40 to 56 outdoors and indoors at FPS of 60 or up. With turning on uber Sampling FPS will fall into depth of below 20 FPS - CrossFire seems have a great performance here and there was not any issue during three hour of my playing time. with Driver installed 11.5B actually some FPS drops have been solved, but not clearly. with CrossFire OFF you will not be able to get above 30 FPS with this settings.

Dragon Age 2
Dragon AGe 2 is a sequel to the amazignly popular Dragon Age Origins which however it is not brilliant like the first game but it is a very great game for the fans and people who liked the first game. well perhpas the most lacking part will be the lacking of depth in storyline like the first game. WEll graphics did not change very much but with having DX11 option (adding an option of HIGH RES TEXTURES) the graphics looks very better than Console Version and DX9 - well with all the settings maxed out plus AA 4X and native res, games is playable smoothly at 45 FPS to UP. somehow I experienced some drop FPS issues. but the games is capable with crossfire.

Fallout New Vegas
The popular Fallout series is very well known for most of gamers specially it has a special position for RPG lovers. I am a huge fan of all the FallOut series, well New VEgas is a must play game for me, however there is no exception that game running smoothly over 50 to 90FPS at all over the game with maxed out settings. So just let your laptop do the process and you can enjoy being in the long and action adventure of new vegas.

Fable 3
Fable 3 runs smoothly but it seems crossfire doesn't really seems to work very well on it, sometimes frame rate goes below 30 for no reason. but usually it stays at 40 something up to 70 and in indoor its even up to 100 frames, You need to turn on the Vsyc to avoid the Huge Screen Tearing.

Dirt 3
Seems Dirt 3 has a nice graphics there compare to Dirt 2, colors looks brighter but a bit cartoonish not very grayish like Dirt 2 and it helped the game to looks very better than before, but you might need a great system to handle this game on highest setting, whatever ... np7282 with this spec, is nothing for it, games run smoothly with 40 to 50 FPS with having AA on at 4x.

Metro 2033


One of the best Atmospherics titles ever made is Metro 2033. it happens at year 2033 in Russia where all over this places influenced by the atomic events. Metro 2033 is one of those games that have an outstanding and amazing visual effects and perfect shadowing and dynamic lights. well the games seems run smoothly at 1080 - with DX11 option - Very High settings - AAA - and DX11 options (ADvanced DOF on and tesselation off) . you will have at most of the places above 30 FPS, even with turning on the 4AAA and Tesselation you will have above 30 FPS in generally, but at some places specially places that there are a lots of dynamic lights. you will experience a fall of FPS to below 30. Well seems after all the way we came until 6970M crossfire, finally you can enjoy the brilliant visual effects of metro 2033 on your laptop and play it smoothly - note that currently there are no GPUs except 6970M crossfire and GTX 485M SLI (which in this case 6970M crossfire is more stable than GTX485m LI) to run this game at this high settings.

Perhaps the most amazing visual we ever had in a video game. Crysis have the honor to own this title of being the BEST. Crysis visuals are achieved with CryEngine.2 and all the objects and textures are amazingly awesome in a look. After 3 years or more which passed from the date that crysis published, many system and SPECIALLY mobility GPUs were struggling to run this game at Very High Settings. Well, finally with 6970M crossfire you can enjoy with average FPS of 50. the game is running at very high settings at native res and even you can turn on AA on 4 and still you wouldn't see any drop in performance. Well finally we are able to see this gaming running at its best options smoothly on a laptop.

Unlike Crysis 1 which many machines were struggline to run that game at highest settings, you can even enjoy a FPS average of 30 with even a single GPU of 6970M at Extreme settings and native Res. well seems CryEngine 3 has a better coding and functioning on GPUs. the game is still beautiful, though we are not in a jungle environment but truth is the new yours city drawn with very amazing details. For a CrossFire option, game will run at average of 45 to 50 FPS at extreme setting all over the levels, but currently 6970M at CrossFire mode is experiencing some issues which sometimes they appear and sometimes no!

11.8 BETA driver With 11.8 According to AMD promise we meet a 10% gain in performance and Great crossFire Scaling

Shogun 2
Shogun is an RTS game with its own unique style and amazing Japanese art style. Shogun is running with a extremely heavy engine which is quiet demanding for your CPU and GPU. I have maxed out all the settings at native res and I made a costume battle and i choose 2 gropus with filled Army Slots and I went to war. at the war scene FPS drop from 50 to 30 and lowest value 25 which i suffered micro-jitters as well. but it was only for few seconds and the battle was running smoothly under a heavy rain at the river. so in a way I chosen the heaviest place !!! so do not worry you can experience this amazing realistic battles smoothly.

Duke Nukem Forever

I just recently tested this game through the Steam. Unfortunately as i expected the graphics are not very nice and it's kind of dates. the games seems have options of best effects but when you are playing you would notice that the visual effects overall are dated and developers did not use all the possible potential. well the gameplay is fun and smooth ! just like old times. well after 12 years, you can sit and enjoy FPS of above 80 and shooting. I think as well the game will run smooth at highest settings even with a single GTX460m or recently 560M.

Grand Theft Auto Episodes From Liberty City

Extremely popular GTA series are the best series ever. the latest one for PC which contains two separate games (lost and damned and Ballad Of G*Y tony) is very demanding game for you CPU mostly. it is true however the visuals after these years seems kind of dated but it is not very well optimized game to run on a PC, you will need a very powerful machine to handle this game on maxed out settings. with latest patches installed, the games seems to be not capable of running CrossFire - you would have above 30 FPS but it will drop soon when you are rotating camera. well you can simply turn of your CrossFire and enjoy smooth FPS with your core i7 970 -

Stalker Call OF Pripyat

Perhpas STALKER is not very impressive like Crysis and Metro 2033, but it has its own style, its a open-world game with a very wide range of heavy effects that can be turned on, even if they do not make a much of difference ! sure they will kill your GPU ! Stalker with all the options maxed out its not playable on 6970M crossfire and it runs at below 30 FPS. But the truth is the game is quiet popular also because of being a really buggy land and unoptimized engine. with decreasing some of the options like AA - SSQA and so one you can manage to get a FPS of 40 -

The best RTS game till today is starCraft 2 as we know. well you really enjoy your gaming time with maxed out all the settings and having average FPS of 85 to 90 at ULTRA setting.

MAFIA 2
'What game could be more memorable than the first MAFIA, it was the best game of pc the year that released, after years now we have MAFIA 2, well its not what we really wanted, seems still the old game with a worst story line but with new Graphics and Physic and so on. 6970M crossfire managed to get a hig fps here as well

Emulation
I have tested so far PCSX2 which can emulator your machine through a BIOS as a playstation 2 emulated platform to run the games directly from ISO or plug in Drive. I used version 0.9.8 ( the newest version) with some of games with GDSX video plug in, DirectX 11 ( softwere or HardWere Mode). I have tested almost 15 games and most of them were able to be played with above of 60 frame, sometimes even to 150 FPS, for example Silent Hill Origins was fully playable and in opposite God Of War 2 was still buggy even at software mode with having 60 FPS it was not that very smooth to be played however with some Speed hacks I could manage to run the game. Fatal Frame 2 - Shadow Of Colossus all were playable with high value of FPS which in order to run it at the correct speed, you need to turn on the vertical sync. some other heavy games such as Silent Hill Shattered Memories were able to run at Softwere mode at 60 FPS, compare to my m15x with GTX260M with FPS of 13 - well seems that core i7 970 and 6970M crossfire are very powerful enough to handle you emulated games.

Emissions :
Just to review this section immediately, I have summed up my records. the laptop sound is very much, it's very noisy laptop and with having fans at maxed out, it can really be annoying. during the gaming the sound can be heard unless you using a headphone. Laptop keeps to manage to keep the temps very stable, i had max temp of 70 for both GPUs and after it passed 70 the fans turned to be faster than normal and decrease it to 65 - for CPU as well. surface of laptop will not get that warm to be annoying but the left hand place will be warm a bit at full load.
NP7282 can't really stand as a mobility desktop since, with having 6970M crossfire its running with 2 300 WAT adapters. you can manage to get battery life of 49 minuets with min screen light and power serve with wireless lan on and as well on load with max screen you will have only maximum 28 minuet of battery.
Well you have seen the overall gaming performance of this machines. it is a really dekstop performance! unlike of many laptops, this configuration may give you an insane performance. beside Alienware m18x, Np7282 has pushed the laptops limits very far that where it was before. now we can match this system to a real gaming dekstop with a GTX570 or AT 6970 . Please note that your performance will be very different depend on what configuration you may select for np7282.
well after a hard working day you should give you laptop a rest !

hii...yeah its mine, i got last week, so i was testing laptop while this time and i pasted here a review of my own experience with it,

yehs this laptop needs two 300 WAT adapter, due to having 6970M crossfire which requires each on 75~100 WAT ( so total 150 ~ 200 WAT ) and as well CPU itself needs 130 WAT, under some stress the system without second adapter will crashu or caused to shutdown immidiately

so what your trying to say is that ur laptop is connected to 2 adapter or the other is a spare???

Yeah this monster needs 2 adapters if configuring crossfirex with 6970m X 2 or SLI with GTX485m X 2. He connects 2 adapters via 1 power converter box, it is coming along with this machine.

no, that is dell's adapter for the Alienware. Only dell's adapter is that thin

no i put that one for the understanding of size. that one is for my alienware m15x .... its connected via converter box,

Yeah correct. But that 1 in the picture is m15x adapter. He didn't show the power converter box inside the picture.

The power converter box is just like 1/15 of one individual adapter.

yes it comes with 6970M crossFIre and GTX485m SLI if you want the second adapter (its optional ) but its recommended since i said under some stresses it can shutdown your machine, since this two card are very demanding as i said ( max 100 WAT per a card )

hahah yeah ! the electric bill will be interesting !!! haha...600 WAT ! lol ----- yupz the models that prince J said, as well the m17x and m18x will be available with 560m and also new asus G series.....will GTX 560M can be equipt at SLI with np7282 as well, but no information yet....about the performence it should be similar as GTX485m or a bit upper
