There's something wrong with their connection tonight. So slow even Lowyat is taking ages to load.

They already put us on some sort of transparent proxy because you can see our local Malaysian Google page still look like the old style while Google has already change the picture to Takashi Murakami's 2011 design.

Now what's with their maintenance this time? We are not experiencing any submarine cable outages so it means they might be implementing some sort or proxy or bot net in their network this time around?

I doubt they're actually upgrading our international bandwidth...not at this time when they received threats from hackers.

AAG is TM's largest capacity undersea cable with a capacity of 2.88Tbps to SEA countries, HK and Hawaii. From Hawaii onwards to US shore it has a 1.92Tbps capacity.

Average speeds in Ipoh by ISPs:

Jaring - 4.38Mbps
TMnet - 2.11Mbps
Maxis - 1.81Mbps
P1 - 1.25Mbps
TM ADSL(Streamyx) - 0.97Mbps!!! <--This is what most Ipoh Streamyx users are getting even for 4mbps users.

Any idea which one I should use?

Ok, tested with the speedtest.net, results from US server:
- Ping: 355 ms
- Download: 0.23 Mbps
- Upload: 0.22 Mbps

Result with local server:
- Ping: 11 ms
- Download: 0.85 Mbps
- Upload: 0.31 Mbps
*
That's what I'm trying to say with the lousy Streamyx line even with a 4mbps one.

Line rated 4mbps, always getting around 3.2-3.4mbps with local servers but when comes to West Coast US Servers such as LA, San Francisco and even Japan you get sucky speeds like that above.

900kbps - 1300kbps at most.

Can TM explain to us where have all the international bandwidth went? Priority now on Unifi?
I supposed that many wouldn't have got mad even if they got over 2.5mbps on those US servers but 900kbps?

We've been short changed.

Way to go TM. Your commitment to frequently used sites such as Youtube, Facebook, Google and Yahoo is only rated 25% for Streamyx. That's what we call LEAST effort not BEST effort.

For that we're paying RM140 for it short of only RM9 without the extra upload speed and the TV.

Haha 1st month priority for you laugh.gif

My 4M last time also for 1st few months flawless. Then as time passes it became slower and slower.Until now average 700-1500kbps for US server speed tests.

Speeds will not improve until an extensive fiber network is put in place in major towns.

Take note.

This should be brought up in Parliament. A vast fiber network as close to the subscriber is needed for high speed internet to be realized.

Seriously, do we any other ISP that does not depend on TM at all? Their service is fcking hilarious. Why the fck do they want to throttle user who download a lot if we pay for it? I'm took 4mbps so that I could download, otherwise I would be getting 1mbps. What?! Why would anybody take 4mbps to surf?? Fckin idiot!

This would happen until the volume caps kick in.

For now they rather tolerate the complains from certain low usage subscribers than risk no one signing up for their contracts.

Better to sell than hearing complains from those who got tied up with contracts which they could do nothing. icon_idea.gif

I called their help line, it said something about a cable somewhere, to Europe or something like that. Anyone else got that?

Sounds like another cable problem?

All bandwidth resources are now being sucked up by Unifi users who are made up of mainly school students on year end holiday break.

You will noticed that traffic congestion last through even at early hours in the morning because these school kids don't have to wake up early the next morning for school. The only non congested time you'll get is during 8am-9am is because they've probably in bed after burning the late night oil.

I believe the slowness encountered by 4mbps Streamyx users is due to congestion caused by sharing the same ip blocks with Unifi users.

Weeks ago I complained that 145.142.x.x ip range were always slow but a Unifi user-MX510 told me that they were getting the same ip range without any issue. Everything's just fast on their side.

My conclusion is placing 4mbps Streamyx users on the same pool as Unifi users will always leave the Stremyx users to the dust allowing us to only getting the remains which is ain't fair.We pay more than RM149 considering we do not enjoy symmetrical/true 5mbps speeds + IPTV.

Why?
The answer is this: If you pit an equally fast say symmetrical 1mbps FTTH line against a symmetrical 1mbps ADSL line both to contend against each other on a 1mbps internet gateway, if both sides request for a file from the same side file hosting side, the FTTH line will suck all bandwidth resources leaving nothing for the Streamyx line on copper. The reason is due to the different access times and overheads between 2 mediums.

That being said, as a Streamyx copper user we are always at the losing end for sharing the same gateway as Unifi users. They should have separated the gateways for the 2 different services in the first place or at least implemented some sort of QoS to differentiate them.

[EDIT]

This might also explain why the <1mbps Streamyx users have more consistent speed lines than 4mbps users. They are not sharing the SAME IP-Core network as Unifi users.

If you noticed, the premium users that is also shared between UNIFI and 4mbps Streamyx users are not given to lower end packages. Those lower end Streamyx users do not use the same ip blocks as so called premium 4mbps ADSL users.

OK, last night after 11pm suddenly my 1Mbps was "super fast" - - everything loaded extremely fast from YouTube, to Google (yes Google, since sometimes Streamyx slow to load!) to CNN.com (my personal benchmark site). It loaded almost instantaneously. 720p streaming on 1Mbps was possible on Youtube (pause for 10-15 seconds then play). IP was 117.xxx.xxx

Then this morning try again.... boom! Normal speed again. :-( Everything crawling. Decided to continue P2P downloads. Maybe it was a 'capless' window moment or a unique time period when everything was normal again.
*
Later this morning what was your IP then?

If possible, you can try obtaining an IP which is not used by Unifi users. Probably that'll ease the congestion quite a bit.

So far IP blocks that are known to be NOT shared with Unifi users are:

218.111.x.x
175.145.x.x (not sure please confirm)
60.48.x.x (not sure please confirm)

Streamyx users who share resources with Unifi will be at the losing end because they always get the leftovers due to the FTTH "pull" factor. **Avoid if possible.**

I having slow direct download speed.. so came here to check and realize i'm not alone..

Streamyx 2mbps (115.x.x.x subnet)

Speedtest DL - 1.1mbps.. still OK
Speedtest UL - 0.4mbps.. very nice..
Ping - 20ms~.. very nice...
Web Browsing - Fast
Facebook - Fast
Youtube - still OK
Torrent - 30kbps.. still OK!
Direct Download - 8kbps!!!... VERY SLOWWWWWWWWW...
*
You're lucky. My ping is always above 50ms.Average ~60ms+ even for local TM speedtest server.

The question is why Unifi users on same ip block as me do not experience slowdown? They must have grabbed all available bandwidth to those file hosting servers.

Something's wrong because Unifi users on same IP range can download from Mediafire with no issues.

Stronger FTTH bandwidth magnet pull I guess. It sucked most of the resources that Streamyx users share with them.

UniFi subscriber target reached

In a statement on Tuesday, group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said the group was very happy that the UniFi service had reached 200,000 subscribers from the 77 coverage areas and this milestone was achieved in only 1 years since it was launched

tm receive millon of complaint daily. still happy?  doh.gif

They are not bothered about Streamyx users anymore by allowing Streamyx users to share same ip blocks and bandwidth pool with Unifi users.

You won't have any problem until Unifi subscriber base grows further. Then the whole Streamyx issue will repeat itself like dejavu.

the problem keep repeating nearly every month. Tired of complaining. and tired from the calls from TM and technician. Why cant the troubleshoot be permanent ?

MX510 can share the template on how to complain. Thank u
*
No need to waste much time troubleshooting your house line, if local speed is normal then it's obvious international gateway is very congested. Unifi users share same concentrators as Streamyx 4M/2M with same IP blocks. They should get the same slowdown as Streamyx users if some breakdown happen but this is not the case. So it's obvious the shared pool of resources are not distributed evenly between Streamyx and Unifi.

Currently downloading with less than 10KBPS when I could have gotten 100 ~ 200 last time. Screw screamyx sleep.gif

Used to experience good speeds like that 2 years back.

But now...sigh.

Those HTTP downloads from oversea servers only get around speeds like you said 10-50kB/s.

Funny that Unifi users can get 100kB/s even for international servers with single connections.

If Streamyx users are put on same ip blocks with them what can you conclude?

any way  to rectify this? I know complaining to TM and SKMM does not work.

This has nothing to do with end users or last mile.

It's their wholesale problem.

You contact their customer support and technical team also no use. It's their wholesale international connectivity and bandwidth team that you should reach...

unifi sux, i dont need sux iptv ... This is like robbing us.

How to contact TM international wholesale department?

SKMM also cannot do anything ?

Streamyx is doing scam business we must report to the correct department or body
*
That's why they made it that way. Consumers can never reach their international wholesale dept by complain.

I called their IP Transit Dept. once. A Malay woman pick up the phone and straight away replied salah no and hang up the phone rudely.
