My iswara 1999 1.5 auto fuel consumption is getting worse. RM 70+ full tank only can go 280km local use. Just changed distributor and tuning though. Rpm idle is fine, below 1k. Exhaust no black or white smoke also. Any idea?
Feel like changing the suspension and absorber, it's too soft like cant absorb any vibration when go through slightly rough road. How much would a decent set of suspension and absorber will cost?
Anyone knows how to reduce wind noise? Change windows rubber?
*
lol sounds exactly like the problems im facing atm sweat.gif

just done my engine full overhaul, improvements not satisfying enough, will arrange to visit the workshop again for carb checking

Do you travel with aircond on? If yes, then you will noticed that LCP will improve your engine response since the load from the compressor has been lessen down by at least 70-90% depending on what brand..

I have been using Mythelogy LCP ever since and i really love it coz i still can accelerate without switching my aircond off. But since i've been using bigger compressor (Wira, Denso), the load still can be felt abit. Not sure how it will feels like if im still using OEM pulley.

Afraid losing top speed? Nah, LCP would not affect your top speed that much. Only if you lighten your flywheel, it will get affected since the momentum to turn the wheels lose abit.

you need to turn on your engine to let the water pump cycle the contents a bit, there are some parts within the tank/radiator/tubes wont be properly filled if not cycled around by the pump

lol..burping engine.. like after eat heavy heavy.. i guess all air pocket come out d gua... let it run some time  after pour in coolant n water...hopefully no air pocket liao..  icon_question.gif

13" steel rim? fuel saving* or what? and arent alloy/sport rims lighter/better in that regards?

atm im running on 2 sport rim and 2 steels (2 sport rims stolen years ago D:)
so would that be the cause? the sport rims are on the front btw.

and i dont even know if the sport rims are steel or lighter alloys >.>
all i know its just sport rims, comes with the car when it was new way back in 1999

looks like people here are convinced that rim upgrade wouldnt increase the FC? especially considering:

13" 2x OEM sport rim (came when purchased car back in 1999) front, 2x steel rim (sport rim stolen, bad day sad.gif )
- assuming may be heavier than the new sport rims?
- what are oem 13" sport rim weights anwyays? anyone know?

upgrade to

15" rims/c drive 2 (heard its amongst the top for quiet/comfort tires, anyone else can recommend something better with price comparison? cc5 is quite a contender too though ive heard some bad comments about it in regards to grips)
- avg also 5kg give/take for good 15" rims right?
- if 15" lighter than 13", FC wouldnt increase much, if any?

I upgraded mine straight from 13" to 16". So far no probs with fc or performance. Except the traction is better.. BTW, 13" oem + 175/70/13 weight about 11~12 kg.. Same goes with my current 16" + 205/45/16. Weight almost the same.
*
hmm im thinking of getting 15" for an upgrade as thats the "starting point" for decent mid range/performance tires. 16" i fear i would f*** up my FC when its already f***ed up as it is >.>

what kinda rating you guys would recommend for 15"? (width and the tire... thickness? the middle rating)

only why im even considering the upgrade is cuz i do drive fairly fast especially midnight runs, and the oem steel rims/sport rims are already fairly heavy compared to aftermarket 15", which should theoretically not increase the FC by much, if any anyways.

Kumho Ecsta Spt KU31... 15" profile should set u back at RM 170-RM190 / pc google it smile.gif using it past 3k km now... grip dry / wet , and threadwear ... superb... Silent and comfort compareable with Michelin Pilot Sport 3... why? Cause my dad's car has that tayar on it... 15" but he paid Rm 330/pc while i paid only Rm 190/pc... you do the maths...  brows.gif
*
hmm im thinking of continental cc5 and yokohama c drive 2. that said, ive heard a lot of bad things about cc 5, whats your take on these 2 brands/models?

highest priority is still on comfort/quiet tires. c drive 5/cc5 seems to fit the bill. theres also yokohama advan decible series, though thats just way out of my league for my current pay/car

If you up-size your rim by 2-3 inches, you're definately going to lose fuel consumption.
Why? Rims are heavier, and your tyres will be broader. More surface contact, more power required from engine to move the car.

If you want to up-size, ask yourself whether you're looking for comfort more, or performance?
If comfort, go for 14' - Try finding LMST 2nd hand rims, and re-furbish it, the rims are quite light. You can still get performance tyres from Hankook, V8.
If performance & handling, go for 15' - Try finding lightweight rims, and you have a wide selection of performance tyres.
Personally, I'd recommend PS3 or Hankook V12.
*
what IF the rims are indeed lighter? would that help a lot? (in minorly increasing fc, if any, or hell, reduce fc? possible? LOL!)

im up sizing mainly to get c drive 2 tires. as 13" choices are... pretty shit suffice to say lol
whats the standard/lightest weight for 15" rims? 4.9-5 kg give take i heard? any lighter?'

any exp between michelin ps3/hankook v12/yokohama c drive 2/continental cc5?
all these are quiet/comfort tires right?

rating? How to rate? Tyre width/thick rate

Iswara with 15" sport rims is best when using 195/50/R15 tyres

and about the FC...u shouldn't worry too much lah. I've use the steel OEM 13" b4 changing to 15" sport rim..
i noticed actually NO difference in term of FC... But the PROS..well u got much stable ride esp when cornering
and speeding on highways brows.gif

if can find the 4-hole rims is better..
*
thats the "rating" i am referring to.

well my fc is really damn low, like 7-8km/l, even after a complete overhaul, only improve a bit (~0.5 improvement, aka still very shit lol) so if "upgrading" worsens the FC, i would be a very sad person lol.

btw why 4 hole rims?

bcoz 4-hole rim..u don't have to use the spacer. Hence the car more stable @ less steering vibration when u speeding

i see makes sense. well i notice majority of rims also 4 holes. my car alos 4 nuts holding the wheel. no point to go against that i guess XD

Ps3 i had experience with it ... Sometimes i drive my dad's myvi... but his is 195/55 U wanna pay for a Ps3 Rm 300-330 / pcs or wanna pay for a korean brand which only cost u Rm170-190 / pc ? Even still the yokohama and continental cc5 should set u back at least 230 per piece and above that is if you planning to get the 15"  yes 195/50 suits iswara well...

Both the 170 and 330 per pcs perform same ... comfort and road noise... i can say on par really ... no point i saying but u wont believe it... test it and u will know ...  thumbup.gif  For me i rather keep the money and do other mods... say u wanna change 4pcs ... 330 x 4 = 1320 vs 190 x 4 = 760 ...
*
it'll be nice if i get to experience/test it myself. really not convinced on kumho, heard some bad things with its wear/grip. however, you get what you pay for, and for what you pay for, i have no reason do doubt you at all. rm190 for 15" tires are indeed good, moreover if you claim for it to be on par with a rm330 ps3.

for ps3, personally i dont think ill go that far for my iswara, thats why im setting my eyes in between, either cc5 or c drive 2 ^^;

Honestly, CC5 is super over-rated. It sucks as an ultra high performance tyre. Conti spend too much money on publicity & marketing the tyres instead of R&D. CC5 is around RM180 - RM200 right? Please choose something else, Hankook V12 is RM200 at Tek Ming, Sunway. That's a better choice dude. Why risk your life on tyres that are not up to par with your expectations?

Yokohama C Drive tyres, never tried it, but I heard the Falken Ziex 912 / 512 is better...
*
thanks for the reply man, at least now i know i should stay clear of cc5. will check out the prices and further comments/feedbacks for falken ziex/cdrive2/hankook ^^

check this all.
Engine oil(if near to service FC really2 bad)
so many service intervals ady also same, somemore using liqui moly 10-40 semi syn oil, and afaik this is good engine oil

spark plug(same as engine oil.if long not change.FC worse to)
replace almost every 1-2 service interval (where people usually replace over 10-20k km ++) especially previously had 1 spark that burns out early due to 1 side maybe having misfiring. Now done full engine overhaul, problem rectified

distributor(firing current not enuff@strong.long not change it can kong)
distributor is newly replaced quite recently as previous one died. replaced with original one as well as before this one i replaced with recond/3rd party and they were absolutely horrible

change air cleaner
To double confirm, this is the air filter placed on the ufo dish carburetor right? every service interval also replace

change oil filter.
every service interval confirm to replace.

everything checked.

*
anything more i should be looking at? atm fuel pricing on hold cuz election and our gahmen nose diving confidence, however once that is settled, confirm will go up. hopefully i can get the FC prob settled before that, and/or before my car replacement >_<

=edit=
formatting for easier reading.
btw thanks for the reply man, really appreciate the help ^^

.ur city driving or highway driving....
.use acc or not?
?how you driving style?heavy or lite?
?tyre allignment and camber proper or not
?carb clean or not?
have you done carb tuning or not?
*
- city everyday, traffic jam everyday (lol KL)

- sure use air cond

- if traffic permits, then heavy, else, stuck in traffic crawl, how to heavy sad.gif

- alignment/balancing and camber (changed steering rack/steering rack bush/drive shaft/stabilizer bush etc already lol) all good

- carb clean or not, not very sure. however when i did my overhaul, mechanic said carb is in good condition. and the intake side (top part, after you remove the ufo dish plastic) very clean since i have done de-carbon cleaning few times (threebond by elton aka thundergod_cid)

- carb tuning done few times, not sure proper/good tuning or not. however idling etc all ok (around 700-1k rpm idle, full stop in first gear idle between 300-500, not too much knocking/vibrations also)
