Hello, I just joined and started following this thread. Been reading from V2 (catching up) to this current one. Own a Honda City E PMM, from Jan 2011 and going to be first full year soon. Very satisfied with it...

Can sifus here recommend me some mods specifically to improve reliability and increase creature comfort? I am not into exterior body kits, or high-performance mods. Typical family guy, city driving.

Second item to ask you all is about general car maintenance. A firm believer that preventive maintenance helps reduce huge repair bills later. Are there maintenance to be performed that is not mentioned in the manual's schedule of maintenance? For example, rotating your front/rear tyres every 10,000 km - it wasn't mentioned.

anyone know where to change window rubber for my rear door? the rubber look spoiled and it store water = = when i open the door all the water like splash to my seat .
*
Given the hot climate here, one should occasionally apply a thin film of silicone seal lube to all rubber seals (doors & bonnet), refer to owners manual under storage of car. This would prevent those seals from drying, cracking and sticking to your door / bonnet frame in which would lead to more damage on the seals. A good brand would be Dow Corning 111.

i asked the Honda SA in puchong and they told be should be end of this year around july 2012. Maybe need to wait until they introducted Jazz hybrid then new Civic then only Facelift City i guess. Full schedule ahead for Honda Malaysia i guess.
*
I think the Jazz Hybrid will be highly anticipated, tax free fully imported vehicle!!!

Guys, anyone serive yr Nhc 40km? I just service my city.... Around rm815....... Website wrote 595... Anyone serivce the same price? And the sc quote me another rm450 for changing break pad......... Izit the market price..?
*
Hi Terry,

Better look into your service invoice to see if they have performed anything 'extra'. For one, I am sure every 10K km, they would have rotated, balanced and aligned tires and that is around RM60 already. Air-cond serviced too? These are off-the-book costs and not quoted in that website RM595. Website / service centre price list comprise of the most basic and must-do service only most of the time.

I think its better to instruct them first.. Practice to say 'just do normal service, no optional item ya!' shud do.. 40k consist of oil+oil filter+gear oil+fuel strainer.. correct? 20k service minus the fuel strainer = rm350++ so with the item it shud around RM5++..  icon_rolleyes.gif

@earl-ku : wassup with the neo? tongue.gif

its NA ... TSI is twincharged ...

I guess the japanese common car makers still not into that direction yet ... you see all or most on the road everyday japanese cars are still NA, and only available in sports cars ...

but these europeans has already using supercharged, turbocharged into everyday consumer cars ...

maybe the japs need to change their direction ...

till the day we see a small 1.5 engine turbocharged or supercharged to produce 170hp or more ... we will just have to wait ...

the jetta tsi is awesome btw, and its got more trunk space ... than the golf hahaha
*
Can't agree more. VW Jetta 1.4 TSI with DSG tranny is quite a beast. Boasting 160 bhp from a measly 1.4L engine (twin-charged of course) pays RM70 road tax a year, even cheaper than our City!!! I am only eyeing the upcoming release of VW Jetta 1.4 TSI Hybrid (USD25K base price), output 170 bhp combined (IC engine + electric motor) and hoping the government holds up tax-free position on all hybrids. Will be the first fully tax free European CBU.

To throw this into the mix. Currently the 1.4TSI engine used across the VW model range has transmission issues. Since the system uses a dry clutch transmission for their 7 speed DSG system in the 1.4TSI cars, it has been reported globally (automotive forums) that many started facing problems after 20,000km. Most common being gears not engaging (gear indicator flashing) and worst case is can't engage gear while driving and forced to stop the car.

Google for more info.

Still thanks for the info. A friend's company car, Golf GTI went back to service centre for transmission problem as well. VW Malaysia couldn't get it fixed for 5 months!!! And some more they didn't even give him a replacement vehicle to use for that duration. Now he serve them a legal letter claiming compensation, hahahaha...

Of late i "feel" that the cranking is little sluggish ... hmm feels like the batt gonna die soon ...

How long on average is everyones batt life? Anyone recall the battery warranty?

And yeah there is a few times when after getting into car, i re-crank the engine even after its already started ... as its just too quiet to realise the engine is already started at times ...
*
Warranty on battery is only 1 year... I forgot the mileage cover for the warranty, whichever comes first.
Better yet, go change to a good maintenance-free battery laa...

Ours are quite good brand rite Hahaha

My previous experience with maintenance free bat has never been good
*
The sales rep informed me that the standard battery installed in the City is not a true maintenance-free battery as it still needs occasional top up of distilled water. True maintenance-free battery is fully sealed. Yeah, thank goodness, so far no problem with battery. Which brand you used Earl, and what problem you encountered? I have tried GP before on my previous car (a MyVi).

errr ... ours is maintenance free la... its fully sealed ... i dont see any where we can top up anything ... ours is GP rite

my previous experience, GP ... Shogun - said to be from yokohama

both the GP and Shogun died exactly after a year ... more or less 1 week

issue is maintenance free batt, when died, its really dead ...

but those normal ones, u can top up water, ensure proper maintenance, will last you a few good years ... and if you re-condition it, with those charger for it every 6 months will last u even longer ...

a friend of mine, driving her peugeot 308 turbo, the batt died in 7 months, maintenance free also - not sure what brand
yeah noticeable sound for me too ... same with civic i hear
*
Must be different batch of City then. Mine was early 2011 batch, battery is labelled 'MAINTENANCE FREE' but still have those 6 covers that you open with 20-sen coins... tongue.gif (aka not fully sealed).

True, most auto tranny, you have to step on brake before moving from the P position. You can force it, but there will be ungodly voice which you'll regret 'sakit hati'... hehehe

Under the glove box, you will find a rectangular box. This box would have two latches on each side, unlatch and you can pull out the cover. Filter is inside this rectangular box.

Pregnant tires? Had that before long time ago on my Kia Sportage... Did you hit any hard object on your tires before? Steel belt tires usually swell up after hitting something hard...

Honda could be scrapping or reworking on parts disassembled from finished cars involved in flooding. However the flooding took place in Thailand, and our City is assembled in Alor Gajah, Malacca...

Added on June 11, 2012, 8:14 amGuys, anyone know if installing auto lock to the new city will affect the warranty?

and probably any recommendation place to install, I'm staying PJ.
*
Should cost around RM100. Won't affect warranty but better buy a good unit (those with relays) rather than direct connection to your car's electrical circuit. Direct connection risk frying your circuit and other electrical components.

Long distance drive - Honda city has 5th gear, so it's more economical. Power output too as 120ps compared to Vios at 109ps.

Sound system is better than Vios. Mitsubishi head unit (OEM) has 45W amp built-in, and with speed-adaptive-volume, 6 speakers. Sound insulation though has room for improvement.

Overall handling, ride on City is harsher than Vios on city streets (potholes, uneveness, speed bumps), but cornering City comes out better/stiffer/firmer.

How about the services for Honda? Compare between toyota and honda, which one is more expensive? by what range?

Honda service comes out more expensive, and quite crowded too (SC). Head out to those SC outside town like Imavest in Sungai Long. I got in and out for regular service in 45 minutes flat!

Am i mistaken here? Honda City didn't have central lock??
*
It has central locking, but just that it won't lock when the car jalan... tongue.gif This turns out to be an essential mod for any City out there. The second essential mod is to arm your alarm on your rear boot. The alarm siren doesn't trigger when the rear boot gets open when the car is locked.

QUOTE(xin @ Jun 11 2012, 04:24 AM)
try to test drive both before deciding, the most notable diff is the torque IMO. I used to drive my GF's Myvi and i reckon Myvi and Vios has about the same start off with a better torque, some say as very good pickup from standstill. While after i change to City, City doesnt have that 'punchy' pickup like Myvi or Vios instead it starts off steady and the power comes after standstill. Try to identify which type of driving would you prefer before deciding. Best is to test drive both cars first.

Plus City has paddle shifters to play around .. ma favourito ! thumbup.gif
*
True, I agree. The paddle shift is really nice to use when you really have to down-shift for some oomph for overtaking - great for outstation drive, Cameron / Genting trip is so much better than a full auto like Vios and Myvi! On the other hand, City's takeoff from standstill is rather a non-event and very tamed.

Vios has the most aggresive stand-still acceleration but Vios is fully stripped down and light - weighs a 100kg less than City! The weight-stability pays off for City at higher speed, coz you will feel Vios being wobbly.

My previous car is a Myvi, my mom's car is a Vios and my current car is City. So, take it from me!!!

it's nothing. just that in overall myvi just not nice. extremely bumpy, engine underpower cause the fuel consumption to go high, 110kph @ 3.2k rpm. now i am driving at RM0.19/km. consider very expensive leh... also the interior is very plasticity. very annoying... sound insulation is also extremely bad.

This is my opinion on myvi...
*
Yeah, MyVi being bumpy is extremel annoying - I didn't miss it at all!

My City just got some scratch and it rather obvious which is white in colour and already affected the ori paint...what is normally the price for a paintjob to just cover the scratches?...tq
*
Yeah, as bro Hollyfish pointed, can get it fixed for RM200 even if scratch got into the base coat already.
