u took the offer ?

In mechanical line , Airconditioning , Plumbing and fire fighting .... But when u join Airconditioning - u will learn plumbing and fire fighting since its the principle line.

If u join fire fighting u wont learn shit except the firefighting side. For a newbie like you, u should go into airconditioning and learn things. LEARN AND LEARN .

Later after u learn everything - then u start looking for job at better companies like hicom-construction , sime darby construction and other mechanical side.

Or better u can jump into consultant firm after a year / 2

QUOTE(Lyagami @ Jun 10 2011, 08:14 PM)
Hope to get some assistance and advice from the senior engineer. i had been offered as the project engineer in
1) main con M&E company contract based
2) sub contractor M&E company
    1) FIREFIGHTING COMPANY
    2) air cond company
3)lorry tanker fabrication factory such as the esso & shell lorry tanker

As i m quite dilemma which job to choose as the M&E future prospect seem like brighter than others. futhermore is the project engineer for main contractor tougher or dangerous than sub contractor.

Btw, what is the best job for a mechanical fellow as the path is too wide ?
thanks for the advice

hi TS, i would suggest you to work as air-cond contractor. You will be much more exposed to contract work, site work and technical stuff compare with working as main-con. However, you got to deal with high pressure and have long working hour. Usually, sub-con is the first who get the blame when problem occurs. sad.gif There are pros and cons, give and take. The work nature of main-con is more on monitoring the work progress. Working as main-con is more relax and suitable for those with experience. When you gain experience, then only you join main-con. At the time, it is your turn to pressure the sub-con laugh.gif For your situation, the first few years down the road, you will gain less knowledge working as main-con. Anyway, my advice is just apply to M & E in construction. Civil might have different story. Hope my opinion will help.

Well, from da replies here, I would say most of these forumers r in da construction line. I'm da same as nicvoo, a mechanical based M&E consultant engineer. My advice, dun step foot into da field. Betta opt for oil and gas, shipping, or other higher paying fields.

What about girls? I am female, doing mechanical engineering degree.

Other than construction (I do have an interest in it unfortunately), O&G, shipping, palm oil plantation, manufacturing factories, automobile.. what other fields or options do I have?

Please roughly give me the idea then i will do researches on it on my own.

I am a mechanical guy. I always compare different mechanical fields. After a few years of working in construction line, I just can comment on three fields as below:

Construction - Unless your dad is the director of company, this will safeguards your prospect. Otherwise be prepared to get exploited to the maximum in most chinaman companies. Consultant engineer will do design in office with damn low pay(around RM2000, rarely get increment). Contractor will deal with high pressure and long working hour at site(need to work on weekend).

O & G - Working in MNC will have a very good prospect, high income and bonus. Unless you work with local supplier. They are mostly chinaman companies also.

Manufacturing Factory - The job scope is usually very specific yet routine. Mechanical people are usually assigned to handle the production line or maintenance of machine and facilities. Most of the factory is in niche market. Sometimes, you may find hard to find similar job in same field. This kind of work requires least traveling, thus might be boring. Normally, MNC in electronic field will have better prospect compare to other factories.

To anyone, please correct me if i am wrong. Thank you.

I believe both fields have the same level of stress. How is the life working in Hydraulic field? Are you working with Hydraulic equipment supplier for manufacturing field? I guess it is a niche market.
