OT but I just got to watch "The Damned United". Has anyone else watched this. Thoroughly enjoyed it. No, not MAN Utd but Leeds Utd. Never knew what Brian Clough was like in his younger days and now I do. He's football's version of Mohammad Ali. For people that think Mourinho had a big ego, you gotta watch this. Here is a man who tool Derby County from the bottom of the 2nd Division to the then 1st Division title and the final of the European Cup. His time at Leeds was short lived for certain reasons but he then took Nottingham Forest from Div 2, to becoming back to back European champions. This all and he never managed England. A recommended watch.

Enjoyed the movie. Clough is one of Britains best managers of all times. Faulty mouth.. but still a great manager nonetheless.. Still wonder why cant Paisley get the same recognition outside liverpool and its fans?

Paisley was a little different I imagine. He wasn't as verbal and flashy. Also, his contribution is undermined by Shankly's success, having inherited a legacy. Clough (and Peter Taylor), rebuild teams much like Shankly did. Only, the latter did it three times at Liverpool!

he does inherit Shanks team but 3 times in 4 years is not an easy thing to do. I believed he only had 1 trophy-less season in his 9 year reign. and you are right, he's a quite and humble man.. no surprise he didn't get much attention from the press.

and who could forget that he's the one who bring in Kenny after Keegan left. biggrin.gif

I agree with you dude. Paisley certainly deserves more recognition that he gets but Shankly was and still is bigger than life. It was virtually impossible for anyone to step out from under his shadow. It got so bad to the extent that even though Paisley was manager, the players would still call Shankly, "boss", whenever he visited Melwood or Anfield. Led to Shankly being 'convinced' to stay away. I can see the logic behind it though.
*
This was the time Shanks started to regret his decision to resigned. I believe it was the right decision to tell Shanks that he is not the boss and cant come to the training session anymore. The player got confused on who exactly is the boss; either Shanks or Paisley. Which put Paisley in a difficult situation and hard to apply his method on the team. Would it stay that way, the outcome would not be very good. That being said, the treatment Shanks got from the club after he left is horrible and the club should have conducted it with a better way. "Tough love" comes to mind but the man deserve a whole better.. heck, even Everton treated him better that LFC that time.

oh man.. fans are starting to talk about selling gerrard. wth?

the man sure was not in a fine form for the past 2 seasons but he still the best midfielder we have in the squad. Yes, it's foolish not to listen if a huge offers comes in for him. unless he want to leave, it's also foolish to let him go knowing that eventhough he's over 30 he still have a couple more years of good service in him. as much as i love fowler, when Ged sold him.. he was already past it. leeds offers was too good to let go. and owen is in his prime.

realistically how much do you think other club would offer for a 31 year old? i think max is below 20million which is not really worth it. we are not run by two evil yanks any longer.. we also not broke and in huge debt anymore. FSG already show that they are serious. so we doesnt to sell to buy players like we used to.

i guess what i'm saying is, unless he decided he wanted to leave or other club crazy enough to offer 35 million.. just keep him. he still struck fears to opponent when he's playing..

Heysel was an unfortunate disaster. If it doesn't happen I guess Fagan could won a back to back European Cup. Just like Kenny with Hillsborough, most people think Heysel took a toll on Fagan.

decided to gave my 108 ticket to a someone else because most of my friends is in violet gate. it was a blast. 2 scouse dude sit behind us and they tried to start a song couple times but failed due to people not knowing the song or their voice drowned by those annoying vuvuzela/airhorn.

dont really care about the results. harimau malaya was pretty good but liverpool are so-so. whatever.. i still enjoyed the game. aqua is the main man tonight. he orchestrate the midfield well. safiq goal was awesome.

there's also a nigger wearing gooners kit and the crowd chanting "bukak".. not hostile though.. he eventually bukak the kit with a smile. people cheered.

the photog behind the ads board at first standing and blocking our view. eventhough we scream at them ask to duduk they just ignored it. finally the steward ask them to sit after someone decided to throw a mineral water at them.

hopefully they will return here next season and come as champion tongue.gif
