I just got UNIFI installed. The modem, router and HyppTV decoder is in the hall. I am thinking of installing the HyppTV in my room. Instead of using a really long ethernet cable, is there a wireless solution?

may i "tumpang" here as well smile.gif

My modem and routers are all on the 1st floor and my TV is on the living room ground floor is there a cheaper way to connect the HyppTV set to the first floor?

will it be cheaper to get:

a) a very long ethernet cable or
b) buy a router and link it up to my other routher (as per sekinnie's recommendation)
c) buy power line plug (i'll need 2 right? 1 each for upstairs and downstairs)

Wireless router bridging isn't a good option for IPTV because :

1) It's hard to debug issues with the bridge unless you really know what you're doing (what if your bridge is intermittently going up/down, doesn't forward IGMP requests/replies, doesn't forward multicast streams, etc.)

2) You need a separate pair of wifi routers to do it (one connected to the VLAN600 port on your RG or BTU and another connected to the IPTV STB)

3) IPTV is very sensitive to jitter and there's a high chance it will screw up your video quality

Would recommend homeplugs or a long ethernet cable as a suitable option

i think in this case, option c is better.
very long ethernet cable is ok, but u need nice cable management to hide those.
wireless also ok but im thinking about the line quality, since its wireless, mybe got interence and it need to handle big bandwidth.
power line plug should be good in handling high bandwidth without using wire in this case.

just my 2 cent

I have tried using wireless repeater bridge to link up HyppTV but found that such a set up is unable to handle the required bandwidth (got only ~6 Mbps throughput). So I set up a pair of Aztech homeplugs instead. Works great!

so meaning buying 2 powerline plugs (those from Aztech) is the safest way but yet is quite costly (RM100+ each)

may I know anyone who uses HyppTV instead of Astro? Im planning to cut my subscription with Astro and use HyppTV only as my family and I rarely have time for Astro tongue.gif

any feedback on HyppTV? notworthy.gif

I'm also looking for hypptv wireless solution. I want to:

1. Transmit AV/HDMI signals wirelessly from my hypptv STB to a second TV in another room.

2. Remote control the STB from the other room.

MSB Tech had solutions, but unfortunately they are way beyond my budget:(

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1926968/+140

Anyone have any better and cheaper alternatives?

I'm currently using a pair of homeplugs (Aztech TPLA 211) in 2 different rooms. I have to manually unplug and carry the set top box + remote to and fro between either one room, which is getting pretty tiring soon sad.gif

Homplug 200Mbps is enough but you need to plug in directly to wall plug. Unifi HyppTV HD is only ~ 10Mbps.

hi i got a question about the home plug.
like most of you all, im placing my modem and router in the living hall while i wanted to watch hypptv in my upstair room. so i amlooking for aztech homeplug to use it. my question is:

1. will the home plug work if i plug it on the extension plug?
2. does the 3 phase electrical system which is common is most household now will cause a problem? or must i conenct them within the same phase of electrical system?

please enlighten me!

Yes,and I think it will depend on the model of the wireless repeater,my wireless repeater will hang after long hour of use therefore using home plug or long LAN cable is more feasible.

If your house is using 3 phase electrical system, should be any problem.

you can split hpptv in case you have more than one STB as long the source port is VLAN ID 600.

Example DIR-615 port no. 4 <---> 4 ports switch <----> STB 1@port 1 and STB 2@port 2.you can watch simultaneously.but if you subscribed for premium channels, only your default STB can watch that channels.

in that case i assume the 4-port switch will not be able to share internet connection?

Sorry, this might be a noob question, but what is a 4 port switch and where can we buy it? or can I use my default d-link as a 4 port switch? I'm using Asus RT-N13 as my main router now.

4 port switch is just a normal network switches, yup u can use your dlink as normal switch.just disable the dhcp function on your dlink.

but you only can use port 1 to 3 only if you're using factory firmware.

Unifi modem (port?) --- HYPPTV

I'm looking to replace my Unifi Router first then will check whether HyppTV STB is working or not. and then wanna set up HyppTV in my room upstairs using homeplug.

another question.. once i set up HyppTV in my room, how to connect to my PC?

If your are using DIR 615, connect it to red port for your STB
Other replacement will be either port 1 or 4 depends on brand

Sorry guys out of topic but seeking for quick help here. Recently i've upgraded my Streamyx to 8Mbps (sorry Unifi unsupported area) together alongside with Hypptv bundled. I have taken a quick glimpse of the channel in Hyyptv but to my surprise the qualities are aweful, its like watching a clip in Youtube at 144p. Am seeking help here, is this normal or am i missed out on something? I thought these are HD? No?

It's best to use Homeplug. The wireless signals may not be stable enough for the high bandwidth IPTV streams, especially HD channels.

Hi All

Can we use 2 different homeplug at the same time? 1 for Data 1 for HypTV
*
Due to Internet (Data) and IPTV on 2 different VLANs, you will need 2 pairs of Homeplugs,

1) 1 pair for Internet
2) 1 pair for IPTV

Best is to get the HomePlug with AC passthrough so as not to waste an electrical socket.

Red LAN is the only port set for output IPTV signal, you have to connect it.

You plug the plugs into a same extension cord to pair by pressing the button.
Do the same procedure for the next pair but make sure you remove the previous pair

If it never works then you have to use the utility to set different network name manually for you IPTV and Internet homeplug.

Let's say you have the homeplug A, B, C and D.

Press pair button on A and B to let them create a network of their own.

Then press pair button on C and D for it to have a network on its own as well.

correct, that 4 ports switch will not be able to share the internet, coz all are tagged with VLAN600
you can watch all the free channels simultaneously except paid channels.

As I remember, last time TM tied the box MAC address into its HyppTV logon system. Thus even has 2 box, only one of them is entitled to logon at a time.

Does the policy now changed? And they no longer check MAC address upon the box authenication phase? hmm.gif

Hmm... but if I got 2 box, one from a friend that does not need it, and that friend's account is still active, hence his MAC address will still get the channel (at least the free one)?

Been using powerline plug for my hypptv for quite some time now..quite efficient I must say..the cheaper 200Mbps should do just fine even for HD channel..but..powerline plug are easily spoilt due to lightning in my experience.

Need help here
Recently I installed Unifi at home. The installer told me that this is the first set of new hypptv box that come with wireless connection to Wifi router that he ever installed.

My STB is a distance from my TV, so my STB and Hypptv box are separated at some distance with the house.

The hypptv box works if it is LAN connected to STB. However, it does not work if just using Wireless connection to STB. The installer called back their support that the wireless connection to STB is not working still.

Anyone experience this? Could your hypptv works if it is connected to STB using wireless without LAN cable?

I bought tplink homeplug 500mbps, so far unifi hypptv HD also no lag. sound and video quality similar to physical LAN cable.

I did think bout using 200mbps but there is a fren having problem with hypptv HD channel with 200mbps homeplug, so i decide to fork out some extra money just buy the 500mbps one. rclxms.gif rather than wasting my money.
Who knows we might got even better than HD channel later on.

HomePlug use the "electric wiring" to transfer data.
not thru wireless one.

you can split hpptv in case you have more than one STB as long the source port is VLAN ID 600.

Example DIR-615 port no. 4 <---> 4 ports switch <----> STB 1@port 1 and STB 2@port 2.you can watch simultaneously.but if you subscribed for premium channels, only your default STB can watch that channels.
*
Hi Bro, as you mentioned can use others 3 port to run hypptv, how does it work from the DIR-615?

I'm using Aztech 500mbps Homeplugs for my HyppTV and they work very well. Basically just plug n play. No probs for 4yrs plus. My house is single phase electricity.

Also tried Homeplugs at my uncle's house which is 3-phase. It didn't work there. The Homeplugs connected but throughput was too slow. I guess the socket were on different phases.

For his house, we're now testing a couple of Mikrotik routers configured as a wifi bridge. Just did it today and it's working but will need to test it for a bit for reliability. The STB is on a different floor about 40-50ft away from the router. It's a much more expensive solution than Homeplugs.

Hi all. I need advice on how to configure wireless connection for my HpyyTV IPTV. On my STB, I can turn on wifi but it can only surf the net and play store. IPTV will not work. Can anyone advice me on how to configure it to be able to stream wirelessly? My router model is RG-DLINK-WBR2300 from TM and the STB is the latest white one.
My current setup is as below:
Modem and router is upstairs where as STB is downstairs. So I have to pull a very long ethernet cable from the red color LAN port on the TM router to STB. I do not wish to use any Homeplugs.
Any advice on how to configure it is much appreciated.

If the configurations has been discuss, kindly point me to the site as i can't seem to find it.

Thank you.

I am also using the DLink DIR850 router.
Maybe I am on Unifi Lite, my wifi speed is same as the LAN port speed.
